Anyone have any info on him? He was born in about 1720 in the British Isles somewhere. He was said to be a Scotch/Irishman (a Scot living in Ireland supposedly). He came to Virginia in the 1750s. I'm looking for his parents and place of origin.
Can anyone help identify Doc Alexander SULLENS (2 Nov 1907 - 12 Nov 1968)? He was buried at Mansfield Cemetery, Tarrant Co., Texas. His wife was listed on his tombstone as Odessa Fern SULLENS, born 26 June 1913, no death date.

From the Texas Birth Records, Kathleen Fern SULLENS was born on 28 Dec 1947 to Doc Alexander and Odessa Fern (FARR) SULLENS.

I cannot find Doc Alexander SULLENS on the census of 1930.

Dock SULLENS (age 12) appeared with his parents, Lee (age 36) and Mollie (age 30) SULLENS, on the census of 1920 at Denton Co., TX.

I believe this is the same family that appears on the census of 1910 at Denton Co., TX, as Jessie L. (age 29, born in TN) and Mollie A. (age 21, born in TX) SULLENS. They had been married for 3 years. There were no children listed in this household in 1910.

The closest match in 1900 is Lee J. SULLINS (born Mar 1881, TN), a farm laborer, age 19. He was on the census of 1900 at Civil District 2, Coffee Co., TN, living with William (b. Oct 1865) & Mary (b. Feb 1872) LOWE.

Can anyone tell me the previous SULLINS/SULLENS generation?

~~Michael Cole
I am searching for my father, the name that I was given was a Michael Sullins from Liberty Hill, Texas. I was born in 1980 so I would guess him to be around mid 40-s now. I am not sure if he even knows that I exist but I would love to be able to find my missing side of the family and fill that part of my life with the information that has been absent from my life for twenty five years...
( The Surname could possibly be Sullens also)

If they were her parents, Joseph was a vet of the War of 1812 and you might be able to gain some pension information on him from the National Archives.
There are several Sullens buried here. Her mom and dad were Joe Sullens 1858-1939 and Lamently E. Sullens (not sure if Sullens was her maiden as well as married name) 1858-1929. Both are buried at Browns Chapel. The following is a message that was posted on one of the message boards - Mary Louina SULLENS (b. 21 Mar 1882) married John N. ANDERSON on 24 Jul 1897 in Lumpkin Co., GA. She was the daughter of Josiah (Joe Sam) SULLENS (9 Sep 1858, Lumpkin Co., GA - 13 Jun 1939) and Samantha(?) (or Lamently) SEGUE, who married 14 Aug 1879, Lumpkin Co., GA. Joe was the son of John Bevely SULLENS and Lucinda ELLIOT, who married 1 Mar 1850, Hall Co., GA. John Bevely was the son of Josiah SULLINS and Nancy DAVIS. Josiah was the son of Zachariah, whose will is online at--
http://www.thecolefamily.com/hobby/zsullinswill.htm
~~Michael Cole <MColeMD@theColeFamily.com>
There is a wealth of information there and specifically mentions John Sullens in the St. Louis area.
Hi Mary,

My ggg grandfather was Hiram King. He was born in NY in 1815 but settled in Texas Co. MO. He had a confirmed sister named Rachael King, born 1809 in NY. Rachael married John Sullens.

John and Rachael can be found in St. Louis in the 1830 census with a small boy. By chance would you have information on their marriage?

Teresa
lighthouse@aristotle.net
Jesse Sullens Puzzle

Jesse Sullens Pension records had a executed voucher for his next quarterly payment ,
What is a puzzle to me is if Emiline Sanders died in 1877 who is the mother to Thomas , Sarah and Ruff in the 1900 Fulton Co.AR . census records ? I have not found them in the 1880 census records . Draft registered had
Russell Sullens born :1891 and Thomas Sidney Sullens born : 1892 Birth Place: Fort Smith AR . . Sarah Sullens
born : 1886 .
The questions and the answers he gave to them .

First . Are you married ? If so , Plase state your wife's full name and her maiden name .
Answer: Fannie Sullens / Fannie Ledbetter

Second . When , Where , and by whom were you married ?
Answer : Fulton Co. Ark . , 25th , Nov.1898 . J.J.Sows or Sous J.P.

Third . What records of marriage exists ?
Answer : License of Salem , Ark .

Fourth . Were you previously married ? if so, please state the name of former wife and date and places of her death or divorce .
Answer : Emiline Sanders 1869 , Texas Co. MO . , Died April 1877

Fifth . Have you any children living ? If so , please state their names and the dates of their birth .
Answer : Bell born 25th , July / 72 , Betty July 2 , / 74
Bell married Boss Dunivan Sept ., 1886 . Betty married S. J. Risner March , 1888

I have since corresponded with a member of the Sidney J. Risner family . The marriage records had Betty Elizabeth Sullens listed as Spouse: BETTIE SELLARS, Marriage Date: 18 Mar 1888
County: Fulton State: AR . Also just last week I have had a contact from a member of the Dunivan family . They said Bell was on a death certificate as mother under the maiden name Sullivan , Bella Sullivan . Boss's family knew him as Boss Dunivan and has his death certificate she thought it had Harim Dunivan on it , unsure of that spelling . . Juna Mason
I've been told that it was Harriet Elizabeth (or Ellen) SHORT who married Thomas H. B. SULLINS on 10 April 1862 in Franklin Co, MO. Is there proof of Harriet's maiden name? Who were her parents?

Thomas H. B. SULLINS was the son of John SULLENS (III) (b. 28 Jan 1795, VA or NC; d. after 1860). Thomas' mother died before the census of 27 Sep 1850, Dist. 31, Franklin Co., MO, p. 68B, #764. Thomas is also listed with his father on the census of 9 Aug 1860, Bueoff Twp., Franklin Co., MO, p. 10, #70.

I would be thrilled to hear from any of the descendants of Thomas and Harriet.

MColeMD@theColeFamily.com
