Hi! I just ran across this site during some searching for my daughters school homework. I was trying to find the origination of Summers, which is my mothers maiden name. My grandfather was Eddie Joseph Summers, originally born in Tennessee. But, I know at some point my grandfather and grandmother resided in Indiana, for that was where my mother was born and some of her siblings. I believe this was back in the early sixties, possibly the late 50's. Not as far back as all of you have been referring but, who knows what information may help someone. I dont know the reason they originally went to Indiana. I have heard that they ran away as young teenagers together and moved around the country a lot. I do know that some of my grandmothers relatives live in Indiana still and some close members of the family who may have some information on the Summers. At some point they ended up residing in Arizona, where my grandfather died and my grandmother still resides. They had 11 children, born all over the country. Maybe this will help someone out.

I have recently come upon some research my grandfather did on his family in the 1950's. His name was Walter Lee Summers. His family was from the Fountain and/or Parke
County area of Indiana. He was born in Kingman. His ancestors include Allen Gooding Summers & Zura Leonard(?), Nathaniel Morgan Summers & Delilah Redenbaugh, Elijah
Summers & Mary Ann Roach, several John Summers dating back as far as the mid-1700's, some from Virginia, and several Allen family members including Issac Allen, a Revolutionary War veteran from Virginia. There are some hole in the record I would appreciate filling, and many details about
brothers and sisters, etc., that I would be happy to share.

Peter Summers (b. 1805, New York)had children John (b. 1839), Mary (b. 1840), Martha (b. 1842), Milo (b. 1848) and William (b. 1850). All of the children were born in New York except William who was born in Wisconsin. Milo is believed to have had the following children: Effie, Addie, and Delos. I have been researching the Summers family. I believe that the Jon you all speak up is my ancestor. He is around the same age as Smith and lived close. I would love to talk with the ones that are related to Jon and compare notes to see if they are one and the same. If so, I might be able to contribute what we have. Oh! Someone mentioned Zebedee. In my research I found that Zebedee was Jonathan's Son. And the name passed down to my cousin who we called Zeb until he died a few years back. I was in Scott County last week and came back with some goodies on the summers. I also went out to Antioch Cem. where a major portion of them are buried. There is another cementary the is named the Summers Cem.

They had a daughter Mary, who later became the wife of Bartley Crawford (they were my 3rd-great-grandparents). According to the 1870 census Daniel and Rachel had a 13-year-old son James.

I'd love info on Daniel and Rachel--there are rumors that maybe Rachel might be of Cherokee descent.

Peter and Hannah Summers would have lived here in the 1840's-1850's for sure. In the 1860 census record they are in Possey county Indian with thier children Ben, Peter J., David, Matilda, Virgina, William and George. Most of the kids were born in Ohio county virgina for sure. Peter J. settled in Hamilton conunty with his father and mother and maried Nancy Braden who's mother was a Sarah Margret (Reed) (Younger)2nd maragie after death of first husband.Nancy's Father was James.His father was Jachob,he maried nancy Johnson, daughter of John Lewis Johnson, Son of Roberts and Marth Elizabeth (Lewis) Johnson. Ben maried Mary F. Branden. Nanyc's sister and moved and from Hamilton county a few years later. This is the same set of summers that maried into the dye family, George, Thomas from hamilton county, tn., Effie dye. George Dye is believed to have maried Elza Smith.

I am so stuck! My Great- Great grandfather was Burr Summers aka David B Summers. He was Born in Indiana either in 1837 or 1847 ( believe it was the latter) I know he was at least married twice, the last being to Eliza Harris in Missouri. From this union my great grandfather, Barney Summers and three other children were born. Anyway, Having trouble finding anything about "Burr" Summers prior to 1861 when he enlisted in the Civil War in Indiana. Also have no information on his previous marriage(s) or any children from earlier unions.

Thomas Summers Jr. - born abt 1751 in MD.

She was married to William Ray. We know she lived Roane County, WV, Frame,WV. One daughter we know of, was Susan Estaline Ray,married to John J. Larch on 6-12-1887. I am attempt to gather information on William Appling (Aplin) and/or his daughter Mary Aplin. William was born somewhere around 1792-1796 in the county of Devon England. He spent his adult life in the village of Offwell, near the town of Honiton, although I do not know if he was born there. In the 1841 census returns it records William as being present in the house called "Ridgeway" and his profession as Agricultural Labourer.

His daughter Mary Aplin married Richard Summers on Nov 12th 1840, in the presence of the witnesses Joseph Lowder and Mary Ann Tucker. It states that she is resident of Offwell at time of the wedding. Richard lived at Widworthy near Honiton, were he was a labourer at the time of his marriage

It gives Mary's age on the 1841 Census Returns as being born between 1817-1821. At the time she was staying with her Father at the village of Offwell, with her 6months old child William, registered as a lodger on the census. On the 1861 census return for Widworthy it records her occupation as a "Honiton Lace Maker".

Mary & Richard had at 11 children:- William - 1841, Harriet - 1842, Louisa - 1844, Mary - 1846, Joseph- 1847, Ann - 1850, Eli - 1851, Elizabeth -1853, Ruth - 1855, Hannah - 1856 and Emma -1860.

She was born on January 9, 1940, to Elizabeth Summers and Richard Anderson in Somerville, Tenn. She was born into a large family with eight sisters and four brothers.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Elaine leaves behind many loving friends and family, including two sons, Tim Alsup and wife, Paula of Decatur, Travis Alsup and wife, Liz, of Harrison; a daughter, Nancy Bennett and husband, Farrell, of Riverside, Calif.; four granddaughters, Brandy Eingo and husband, Michael, Heather Schultz and husband, Skylar, Hannah Alsip and Haley Alsup; two grandsons, Jamie Bennett and Hayden Alsup; and three great-granddaughters, Tate Wingo, Sydney Wingo and Anna Schultz.

I have an Elizabeth Summers, b. 1807 Wayne Co., Ky., m. William Ramsey, 1825 Wayne Co.,Ky. This couple came to Randolph Co. during the year 1828. When her husband William Ramsey died during the year 1842 the probate record indicates that PRESTON SUMMERS and William Patton were administrators of the Estate. Also a JOHNSON SUMMERS is very active in this probate, as he is owed money from the Estate. Preston Summers is of the age to be a brother to Eliabeth Summers Ramsey. PRESTON marries Emmaline Patton in Randolph, but the couple eventually move back to Wayne Co., Ky.

I am trying to follow up on some leads on the following Summers family. This information is from Runk Biographies of Huntingdon Co, PA:

"Henry and Barbara Summers, were natives of Maryland, of German descent, and removed from Hagerstown, Md., to Woodcock valley, Huntingdon county, about 1780; the grandfather (this Henry) died in 1809, and his wife (this Barbara) in 1827. He was a farmer and stock raiser, and owned a farm of 300 acres in the valley. He married in Hagerstown, and had seven children: Daniel; Jacob; Henry; Mary; Catharine; Margaret; and Susan. He was a good man, esteemed and respected by his neighbors."

I have several conjectures about this family, and am looking for anyone with further information to prove or disprove these possible facts.

Most important to me:

Is the daughter Susan Summers mentioned here the mother of John Baker, born in 1792, died 21 Dec 1825 in Huntingdon Co, PA? This John Baker was the husband of Rebecca Royer. I have found one source that alleges this, but I have no corroboration.

Second...I believe this Henry Summers was the son of Mathias Summers, born in Germany, emmigrated to US in 1751 on the ship Anderson, arriving in Philadelphia. Mathias's son is listed as Johann Henry Summers, and has correct the correct death year to be Henry Summers mentioned in Runk's biography that I quoted above.

Can anyone confirm these facts, and/or give me any more on either of these (Summers or Baker) families?

In 1830 Greenburg Twp, Green County, KY, there are only 2 Summers:
Samuel - M 30-40, F 30-40, 1M <5
Jesse C - M 30-40, 1M 10-15, 1M 15-20, 3M 20-30, 1F <5, 1F 15-20, 1F 20-30, 1F 70-80, 1M Slave 24-36, 1F Slave <1, 1F Slave 10-24 (Note that Jesse has children over age 10 living with him but no children in previous census. I believe that the family of Jonathan is now living with Jesse)

In 1831-32 several families living in Green Co. KY move to Hancock Co. IL, among them Summers? and Bloyds.

We have Summers buried at the three (3) cemeteries noted; I have photos if anyone is interested.

My Summers are from Rev. Alexander Summers m. Mary Ann Vinegar (he was a co-founder of the Pisgah Cemetery and is buried there). Am awaiting documentation to confirm Hezekiah Summers 1750-1836 is Alexander's father. So, the Summers headstone photos are of my Summers and related families.

The Summers Cemetery, Triune Community includes Austin and Rumble, etc. There are quite a few Trickett in the Halleck Cemetery (thought I didn't photo them) and some in the Summers Cemetery.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of five soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died May 28 in Abu Sayda, Iraq, of wounds suffered when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
