Arthur Argyle b: 1883 - Irene Isabel b; 1891 - Rose Edith b: 1885 Summons

The above, I believe were born to John Mears Summons and Mary Isabel Searle (Bedminster Bristol. I think Arthur was born on a ship to Australia and Rose was also born there. I believe they then went back to England and had Irene in Bedminster. Mary died in 1894 and then John in 1898. Does anyone have any further detail about any of these people please. There is some proof that Irene was in an Orphange in 1901 and the two girls were with family on 1911.

Many thanks for any further information that would confirm this.
Frances
Re: Everitt SUMMONS

Yes, I am interested in Everett Summons, but dont know where these people fit into my husband's family tree.
As far as I know his ancestors were Edward Summons and Anne Everett, who came out to australia as convicts. they had a son Edward born Parammatta 1795, he had a son Everett, born 1822, married Sophia Joneshad several children of which one was my husband's grandfather. My husband thought that all the Summonses in Australia were related, but I dont know how your lot fit in with these. I would be very interested in any further information. eg where did your Everett and co come from?....best wishes...Julie Summons

Martin Summons (Summors?), b. 1829

I am searching for descandants or family of Martin Summons. He was an engineer, born in 1829 in Ohio. He was living with his sister, Nancy Jane and her husband, George Johnson (Johnston), and another sister, Elizabeth, in Newport, KY in 1850. Family lore is that Nancy Jane's (and Martin's) family name was Summors, but he appears in the 1850 census with the name Summons.

Everitt SUMMONS

Everitt SUMMONS arrived in NSW via the ship Brothers. The 1828 Census of NSW lists a SUMMONS family group of six:

*Everett - 35 yrs, came free Brothers in 1825, protestant, servant, working for Australian Agricultural Company at Port Stephens
*Caroline - 18 yrs, born in the colony, protestant
*John - 28 yrs, came free Brothers in 1825, protestant, servant, working for Australian Agricultural Company at Port Stephens
*Elizabeth - 20 yrs, came free Brothers in 1825, protestant
*E.R. - 18 mths, born in the colony, protestant
*infant - 1 mth, born in the colony, protestant

Birth, death and marriage records show this to be two families. Everitt had married Caroline (or Catherine) GREEN in Sydney on 28 Oct 1828, and they had five children:

Eliza b. 7 Jan 1829, bap. 14 Apr 1829 Newcastle
Everitt b. 17 May 1830, bap. 25 Jul 1830 Newcastle
John Australia b. 9 Sep 1831, bap. 30 Oct 1831 Newcastle
Edward b. Nov 1832, bap. Dec 1832 Stroud
Sarah Ann b. 22 Dec 1835, bap. 13 Apr 1836 Stroud

No death record has been found for Caroline, although it seems likely that she died in the late 1830s. Everitt died in Newcastle on 28 Jan 1870, and was buried at Christ Church CE Newcastle the following day. His death certificate records his parents' names as Everitt SUMMONS and Mary Ann LITTLEWOOD, his age as 77 years, and his place of birth as Bentley, Essex, England.

John and Elizabeth were married before arrival, and had two children recorded in the NSW records:

William bap. 1828 Newcastle
James bap. 1833 Sydney

John died in 1834 in Sydney, and Elizabeth remarried to Nicodemus DUNN the same year. It is not known whether John and Everitt were brothers, although this seems likely.

Anyone else out there interested in these families?
best wishes
Lindsay
