John & Emma Summy, b.1864/5, lived Kosciusko Co., IN

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “John & Emma Summy – Mod’s parents”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about early 1900, in Warsaw (Kosciusko Co.) IN, and each of them looks to be mid 30s-40. I have no clue as to who “Mod” might be.

I found John in the 1900 and 1910 censuses for Kosciusko Co. In 1900, John was 35 with DOB Nov 1864; Emma was 34, with DOB Sep 1865; and they had sons Ervin and Mearl (1887 & 1889) – and I found them later in other censuses as Irvin and Merle. John and Emma had been married 14 years. By 1910 census, John was age 45, in his second marriage for 6 yrs. to Rhoda, age 39, and they had no children.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to John and Emma Summy.

SUMNEY Jacob b: ca 1800 PA m: Margaret Jane LEISURE
I am looking for any information on Margret Jane or Jane Margaret LEISURE b: ca 1800 in PA. She married a Jacob SUMNEY or SUMMY and had one daughter, Jane M. about 1828 in PA.

While living in Butler Co., PA the daughter married a Samuel MOHLER 1849/1850 and they appear on the 1850 PA Butler Co., Butler Boro census with his mother-in-law, Jane SUMMONEY age 50 (I think) living with them. It is my understanding that the father-in-law died in 1844 and I am working on getting the estate records.

Any information on who Margaret Jane LEISURE's parents are would be greatly appreciated. In looking at the census for 1790-1840, it appears that they may have come from Westmoreland Co., probably around Mt. Pleasant area .. but, I am only guessing.

Any information or clues would be appreciated.

Bonita
Hello. Dave and Cindy (Cripps) Sumy from Kittanning, PA just began a genealogy list on the computer. Dave is the son of Walter and Evelyn (Cornu) Sumy. We have one book called the Family Record of John and Elizabeth Sumy and Their Descendants. The book was prepared by John A. Summy. I just wanted to greet members of the Sumy and Summy families. I have much to learn of genealogy. Thanks for any insights!

Tina, I am sorry, but I found no names you were asking about from our Sumy Family tree.

I could not find ANY Margaret Sumy/Summy/Sumey in our listing. (There is a Mary Sumy/Summy.)

I found Clara Wetzel who married Tony Proft, my grandmother's brother. There were no Wetsel or Whetsel names recorded in our tree.

Neither could I find records of the names Crawford, Dove or Shaver.

Sorry this hunt didn't come close to your relations. Thanks for asking! Cindy (Cripps) Sumy

Hi, Debbie. I just read your message from August requesting information about Margaret Summy. In my family tree, I see Margaret Summy born in 1806. I have no record who she married. She must not be the person you are looking for. It is interesting, though, to know you are aware that your Margaret married Phillip Bowser in Armstrong County. We have MANY Bowser families in this county. We live in Kittanning, Armstrong County, so our phone book is full of Bowsers. You are welcome to write me at sumy123@alltel.net if you have suggestions how I may help you with the material you seek. Cindy

Ruth, I do not have any family members by the name of Haldeman, Urich or Behney listed in our family tree at this time. It seems reasonable that Christian Haldeman and his wife might use the wife's last name of Summy as thier son Jacob's middle name. It was like that for your father's middle name of Urich! It is possible we are connected in this family seach. I welcome any other information you discover as your hunt the family trees. Thank you! May I have your email address?

I'm searching for a Margaret Summy (est. birth 1731/51, PA) who married a Jacob Wetsel (born PA) who may have relocated through NC? to easternTN/western VA?, as a possible connection to the line that results in an E. Manuel Whetsel born 1896 around Washington Co, TN, who married Dora Crawford. (E. Manuel is the gr-grandfather of my husband.)

I have found this info that leads to a Solomon Wetsel who may have been E. Manuel's father:
1-Henry Whetsel married Catherine (unk?)
2-Maritn Wetzel(&other spellings) (b1780, VA)m'd Catherine Shaver (b abt 1780/3)
3-Paulser Wetsel (b 1811, VA) m'd Sarah Dove (b abt 1818/31)
4-Solomon Whetsell (b 1886, TN) m'd ??Abigail Crawford??

I realize this is straying far from the Summy name, but I'm having no other luck. If you have anything on this Margaret who married a Wetsel, please let me know.

Thanks -- Tina Gebhart
