Fanus Alias Sumners in Dunklin Co., Missouri

I'm searching for Fanus Alias Sumners who married Wilma Booth in Cardwell, Dunklin Co., Missouri on 12 Sep 1936. I don't have any dates for him but was told he died at age 55. He is supposed to have had a brother, Julius, but that has not been confirmed. Wilma Booth Sumners is alleged to have died following the birth of her third child and yet in her son Bill's 2009 obit, there were four children listed as being children of Alias and Wilma so there's a question there with no answer. I understand that after Wilma's death her husband did not mention her name again and did not keep in touch with any of her family which, to me, only adds to the mystery. Wilma may have had brothers Carl (married Mildred Watkins in Cardwell), Floyd Ray (married Norma Marie Eldridge in Cardwell), and Harvey (married Alma Grissom in Cardwell).

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Hello Terry,

That's fascinating news about your connection with Elijah Summers, and my hats are off to Ancestry.com for putting us in touch with each other.

I haven't done any genealogy research for years and years. However, I have recently moved back to Arlington Virginia, where, according to one piece of information I got from ancestry.com, Elijah's family cemetery MAY be preserved as a Fairfax County park. If you would like to send me your e-mail address, I'll forward some photos from that cemetery. The dates make the theory possible that Elijah came from Virginia, but I haven't seen any proof. My e-mail address is: summercamp81@yahoo.com

Best wishes from

Your cousin David

Looking for information on Jefferson Davis and Francis Missouri Sumners. I have pictures of their headstones where they are buried in Broken Bow, OK. Jefferson was born in 1868 and died in 1933. Francis was born in 1863 and also died in 1933. One of their daughters, Edna Lee married Tollie Compton. Edna was born in Arkansas but I still can't find any census records on her father and mother. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

John Ellis Sumners is my ggggg-grandfather. He served as Probate Judge of Bibb County, Alabama, for six years. He was born in approximately 1797 in South Carolina. He married Nancy Langston (b. 1802) about 1815-16 in Alabama. He was also a Baptist minister. John and Nancy had 16 known children. Eight of their sons died during the Civil War.Their son, Thomas, was born in 1816. They had a daughter, Martha (b. 1820), who married Alexander E. Hinson. It is also thought that John Ellis Sumners' father was a Thomas Sumners, too. I am a descendant of his son, Isaac Newton Sumners (b. 1825).

On Abraham's property there still exists the old family cemetery. It was last sold about 5 years ago. Some of the property went to the Rodens who still farm it.
Markham-Evans-Sumner

Looking for a connection to these families. The Sumner's were from Sumner, Tx. 20 miles east of Paris, Tx. Susan Sumner from Sumner, Tx. married Joseph Evans from Little Rock, Arkansas in 1869. They married in Lamar Co. Tx. Some time before 1900 they moved to Bryan Co. Ok. They had four children who lived but had a total of 13 Children. One of those children Nina Evans married George Markham of Tenn. And there off spring was my mother. Sallie Mae Markham born 1900 in Caddo, Ok. Does anyone have any information on these people? Need your help in locating the Sumner line.

This is interesting it is possible they are related i'm having a really hard time finding info on James Robert Sumners M.D. Notice you have ''John Smith Sumners'' b.Dece.25,1887 ''Smith'' must be related to ''Sumners'' i have info, 1880 census for Woodville,Haywood, Tn. it list''John T. Smith, M, M,W, AGE 32 TN. OCC. physician, wife, Martha J.Smith, ''James R Sumners M.D. M, S,W,age26 TN.They were both doctors. Throught they were related now thanks to your info i'm sure, this helps. My grand father [son of James.R.Sumners]''Perry Bond Sumners'' use to go by nick name ''Tom''i figure someone in family could of been ''Thomas'' long shot, i will keep these names for future they are probably related for sure i just don't know where right now, thank you so much.
