Ida Mae Sunbury Chapman Scott

Looking for information on Ida Mae Sunbury, b. c1864/5, d/o Charles Sunbury and Olive Smith, b. Quebec, who married 1st Edwin Chapman in 1880 at Derby, VT.

By Edwin Chapman she had at least two sons, Carlos c1883 and Chester Harry in 1890. In 1901 they lived in Stanstead.

She married 2nd in 1921at Newport VT Warren Scott. She was then a resident of Derby, but Warren was of Lineboro (Stanstead). This is my connection, as Warren was a bro to my ancestor. Trying to contact others researching the Sunburys or Chapmans to see if anyone knows what happened to her and her 2nd husband Warren M. Scott.

Re: SUNBURY - SONNENBERG.

I understand that there were at least four Sonnenburgs in the Hessian troups according to the helpful people in the Johannes Schwalm Association some years ago. Two were Heinrichs. Mine was the one who married Katherine Whiteman b 1752 in Boston but living near Ashburnham MA when she married Henry so I suspect he was working on her father's or an adjacent farm. See the History of Ashburnham for the German families settled near there. Henry stayed with the Whiteman's as they moved to Warren NH to farm and later he and Katherine were in Lunenburg VT before Eaton twp., Compton Co., Que. was opened for settlement (1800). Their son-in-law, David Hodge bought land in Eaton and the Sunburys followed. The last name varied so in NH & VT it was Sanborne or Samborn(e). There is some confusion regarding the younger children and it appears that children of a cousin of Henry came to live with them too.
I would like to know more about the other Sonnenburgs - an old Heinrich and two Fredrichs and would be happy to share information with anyone who can add to the picture.
CJ Edwards

Dear C.J.Edwards;
Thanks for your reply to my posting some time back in
respect to the Brunswick soldier Heinrich SONNENBERG.
However I am sorry to have to correct your statement that
the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association identified
four soldiers by that name in their military files. The same
as I did with my previous posting, they only identified one
Brunswick soldier by that name. What you assumed to
be four by the same name, is listed in their Journal's Hessian
Registry, where they had received four different enquiries
for the same soldier, and I give you the names of those
who enquired with the JSHA: Carol Anderka, Bernice
Sunbury, Richard Sunbury, and Robert Sunbury.

Hoping that you have not confused the issue for other
descendants, and trusting this will clear this issue up,
I remain yours respectfully
John Merz, researcher of Hessian soldiers of the AmRev.

Henry SUNBURY & his wife Betsey BUCKLEY

This reply to Sylvia's posting has a two-fold purpose -
having told you in an earlier posting last year about
the Brunswick soldier Heinrich SONNENBERG, who
probably is the ancestor of many SUNBURY's, I have to
tell you that there were two Brunswick soldiers by the
same name acc. to Brunswick military files:
1.) Heinrich SONNENBERG, born in Wolfenbuettel,
age 26 (1752/53), deserted from a prisoner of war camp
in 1781, probably in Virginia,
2.) Heinrich SONNENBERG, born in Semmenstedt,
appr. 15 km SE of Wolfenbuettel, age 41/04 (1737/38),
discharged on account of disability, or in military files it
says 'transferred to civil service'. Where and when is not
known.
There is quite a difference in age to be able to distinguish
between the two soldiers.

The other reason for this posting is to explain that the
German name Sonnenberg has been ytanslated by
descendants to SUNBURY, and that there is a Rootsweb
Message Board named SONNENBERG which could be
used to reach for German relations.
Trusting that this will be helpful to descendants.
John H. Merz, researching Hessian soldiers of the AmRev.
http://home.cogeco.ca/~hessian

I am researching my father's line, Sonnenberg, who were Germans from Russia, specifically, the Ukraine.

My great grandfather was August Sonnenberg, who was married to Justina. We have no information on Justina's family. The family was sent to Siberia about 1913 or 1914 and he died on the return about 1920 or so.

For a partial listing of all my Sonnenbergs, please visit my homepage.
Is it by co-incidence or design, but having looked at your
interesting posting about this Brunswick soldier
Heinrich SONNENBERG, born 15. March 1753 in
Wolfenbuettel, who deserted sometimes during 1781,
I just recalled that we discussed this man on our
AMREV-HESSIANS-L@rootsweb.com mail list, and
this can be checked in the mail list archives.
