I have just started tracing mine and my husbands family tree. At present I have only managed to get back as far as my husbands grt grandfather. WilliamJoseph Surman B: 1861 Rose Cottage Horspath D: 1942 Cranleigh, Surrey.
I have been unable to find 'Rose Cottage' or the name of William Josephs parents. William was one of 8 children. ( Bess, Fanny, Mary, Rose, Sarah, James and another brother but we have no name) These names were given to my by my mother-in-law but I have no dates for any except William and james son James(B1894. D14 feb 1916 in Flanders fields France)
William Joseph married Janette surname unknown. They had William Joseph B: 1888
Margaret B:1891.

Edith Mary B:1896
I have searched various census but have hit a brick wall
It looks like grt grt grandfather Surman lived at Rose cottage , Horspath.Oxfordshire.
.His Son & daughter, James & Sarah Lived in ST Pancras in 1881. Between then and 1901 james died and his wife re-married and was living in Cranleigh by 1901.
Any one good at unravelling family history my brain is comletely scrammbled!!
