Hello and to who it may concern the Surprenant name goes back to 1623 so far and we had family that came over with the May Flower to the new lands.In Canada it spelled 5 ways and and New Orleans area 4 ways. Kankakee,IL. is my home and Faber name is with the Surprenant name. Kankakee means Morning of the riaseing Sun in indain/Crow is the tribe that was there before our families took it over after they moved on. William (according to what I've learned through census records) was born Nov. 1833. His Civil War discharge papers indicate that he was born in Champlain, NY. According to above mentioned church records and tombstone, he died September 16, 1918. Ellen (also Helene in church records and Hellen in 1860 Mooers, Clinton Co., NY census) was born about 1839/1840 and died Sept. 1898. Church records have her maiden name as "Surprenant" but is "Suprenant" on her headstone.

Their children:
Twins, Willburt and Wilmer, born about 1858 (1860 Mooers, NY census; only "Wilber" appears in 1870 Altona, NY census); Dillia (also Della and Delia), born 1862; Edmund H., born 1864, died. Feb. 1938; Joseph Albert, born Oct. 1870, died Aug. 1956; and my grandfather, George Albert, born April 1883, died Sept 1965.

I have a very sketchy family tree with bits and pieces of names and places.

However, your post contains similar names to what little I have. Charles Peter Hebert and Onasine Richard had a son named Charles Romaine, son Joseph, and a daughter listed as Menty Hebert Surprenant.

Seems like a lot of common names. Does any of this fit for you? Also...see post under name Hebert "seeking canadian connection" posted 12/29/2000

Hi Carol- You probably know this, but many of their children are listed in the VIllage of Malone birth rcords. THeir 10th child was born in 1902 (the birth record says that 6 children were living at that time). Some of the birth and death entries state that Ellen (or Helen) LeMay was born in Westville, NY. Xavier may be related to the Surprenants of St. Antoine-Abbe, P.Q.

I am not sure who Laurent married. His sister, Olive Elizabeth Surprenant was my great grandmother.
I only have the birthdate 1837 listed for Laurent. The parents are Isabelle Granger and Jacques C Surprenant. They had moved to Kankakee Illinois.
I have a "postcard" made with this picture. It states Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Surprenant Golden Wedding 1858-1908.

Handwritten is the date Sept 27th.
It was sent by L ? Surprenant from Manteno Illinois to my great aunt Armeline Commeree Boudreau (Armeline had married Lucien Boudreau) in Marshall, Minnesota. It states on the postcard:
"Dear Nephew and Niece
Accept this little souvenir with the sincere wishes of your uncle and aunt. "

[ I think the middle letter ? is M, so it would be L.M. Surprenant]

I have been going through old pictures and scanning. I found this picture of Laurent Suprenant and wife taken 1908 for their 50th wedding anniversary.
He was the brother of Isabelle Surprenant Commeree, my g great grandmother.

PLATTSBURGH — Maureen E. Surprenant, 50, of Cornelia St. in Plattsburgh, died Saturday, Feb. 17, at Fletcher-Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.

She was born in Binghamton on Aug. 8, 1950, the daughter of Edgar G. and Alice Louise (Nikerson) Surprenant.

She was employed as a licensed practical nurse at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh. She enjoyed studying the Civil War.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Tess Surprenant of Cross, S.C.; her twin sister, Maria Surprenant of Plattsburgh; her nieces and nephews, Tracy Surprenant of North Charleston, S.C., Michael Surprenant of North Charleston, S.C., Jason and Sara Surprenant of Charleston, S.C.; an aunt, Sandy Salway of Cohoes; her extended family, Cheryl and Mike Collins of Plattsburgh, Larry and Brenda Mouseau of Plattsburgh; and many cousins.

Her parents, Edgar G. and Alice L. Surprenant died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday from the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh at a later date.

MOOERS — Angeline May Surprenant, 79, of Mooers passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born February 6, 1923, in Mooers, N.Y., the daughter of Arthur and Eva (Willette) Garrand.

Angeline was preceded in death by her husband, Mose Surprenant; one sister, Eva Trombly; and two brothers, Charles Willette and Douglas Willette.

She is survived by one son, Steven Surprenant and his wife, Wanda of Mooers; two daughters, Cindy Surprenant of Mooers and her companion, Hugh Hogle and Janice Marino and her husband, Jack of Berwyn, Pa.; two grandchildren, Bradley Surprenant and Tisha Surprenant; a brother- in-law, Harold Trombly of Mooers; and a sister in law, Lou Willette of Connecticut.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church in Mooers.

Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country, 386 Rugar Street in Plattsburgh or to the Mooers Volunteer Fire Department.
