I am interested in William Sussex, son of Thomas, who came to NZ in 1893, and served as a Methodist Home Missionary between 1894 and 1898, and later on from 1926-1936. He died in Auckland, 1.3.1960, having lived at Takapuna for some time - where he was an active church leader.
I have a fair amount of information regarding his ministry, but would like a little more family background - I am preparing a register of those who served in the Methodist ministry in this country.
He was born in Stawell, Victoria, in 1871 - when and where exactly? He married Helena Sorrenson 4.10.1898 - where?
His father, Thomas, was a farmer at Waterloo, Victoria, in 1884; later described as a merchant. Did he die in 1888?
What are the birth and death dates for Nancy (Nancie) Wardman
Thanks, Donald Phillipps

Am looking for registration of death for "George Brown" of Trotton. Married Rose Bone in 1897 and had two children by the 1901 census. Presuming George died shortly thereafter as Rose has next child in 1909 with William Berriman. Can anyone help me determine if and when he died. On their marriage cert. and in the 1901 census his occupation is "cowman" (ag labourer).

Hi Sue,
One of my ancestors was Jane Sussex, who married George Cayzer in Little Torrington on May 23, 1693. It seems likely that she belonged to the same family as yours. I haven't been able to trace her back any further.
Given the dates and location, my hunch is that she was your Abijah's sister.
George Cayzer came from Mawgan, Cornwall, and there were Sussexes in the vicinity of Mawgan back in the late 1600s.
David

I am interested in Mallford Sussex who was born in 1744 in Little Torrington. According to the IGI his mother was Mary Sussex, no father mentioned. I wondered if anyone who has seen the registers for Little Torrington may know anything about him or her. He went on to marry & have children in Weare Giffard, the name Milford/Mulford seems to have become a bit of a fixture in their families.
Any information would be welcome. I'm assuming that somehow this links up to the Abijah family I have read about on this board.

thanks so much,
Louise

Hello again Terry

sorry, I didn't realise that we had been in contact before. I am amazed at how many people are chasing this particular Sussex family, particularly Abijah. I have had a good look at the records for Little Torrington held in the record office in Barnstaple but they don't give any clue as to where Abijah was born or when. One day perhaps .....

all the best
Sue

Hi Sue, We have exchanged e-mails some time ago.
I had just started researching my tree, and you were tracing your ancestry through Elizabeth Sussex I believe.
My 7-times great grandfather was Abijah but I am afraid that I am in the same predicament as you, short of getting on my bike and going down to Exeter, I have had no luck either.
I have contacted Roger Sussex in the last fortnight ( he is related through the Thomas Sussex & Jane Jones side of the Family and I know that he has done extensive research on the Sussexs) but he has not as yet returned my e-mail. If he does get in touch and there is anything I can pass on then I will gladly do so.
Regards, Terry

R. Stevens
Many thanks your message. You are the first to reply.
Lt. Col. Vincent Randolphe died March 1932 three months after his mother, who at that time lived at Grendon Manor.
Have recently found descendants of his brother, now living in Zimbabwe. Have no records to date of Christopher Randolphe.
Grendon Manor was sold out of the family after 1932.
If you have any information on Christopher I would greatly appreciate. If any information comes from the family I will pass on to you.

I'm not researching the families that you seem to be, but just read what you wrote, and would like to make a correction: Lewes was the ORIGINAL capital of Sussex Co., but hasn't been the capital since sometime in the 1700s or early 1800s. (Sorry, but I can't recall when the change was made.) Georgetown, DE, which is more centrally located in Sussex Co., became the capital, and remains the county capital to this day. However, if you're seeking old records, the DE State Archives, in Dover, DE, is the place to contact, since they now have all the old holdings from throughout the state. Hope this will prove of some help.

East Grinstead is quite clearly written, the Forest one not quite so clear.

If someone will give me an email address, I will send the full transcription but for some reason I cannot pick up an Excel attachment from the Ancestry board.

Regards

Glenda

I believe I am related to this same family. Thomas Sussex arrived from Little Torrinton, Devon, England at Prince Edward Island, Canada 1832. He brought with him, wife; Dinah Smale Sussex; children Ann b. 1821; Elias b. 1825; Mary b. 1828; Martha b. 1831; born after arrival in Canada; Elizabeth b. 1833; Thomas DOB unknown; David b. ca 1836; Stephen b. ca. 1838 and my great grandfather William John Sussex b. 1842; who married Mary Jane Currie. Thomas Sussex family moved to Thamesville/Bothwell area of Ontario, Canada, and William John Sussex family eventually moved to Detroit, Michigan, USA area until death. I wonder if Thomas, son of Thomas Sussex and Dinah Smale, is same Thomas who went to Australia in 1857. He would be older brother to my great grandfather William John Sussex, who was called Johnny by family members.

Hal Burgert
Hello, have you had any joy? I am trying (for purposes of old school records) to find out what became of Christopher Randolphe Pigott, born 7 Dec 1904, son of Lt-Col Vincent Randolphe Pigott and Edith Marion née Duckworth. Certainly the same family: we had an address for him Grendon Manor, Aylesbury, but this seems to have been defunct by the 1960s. I cannot trace a death or a will in any of the usual places, so maybe he is still alive aged 98? (There is a Christopher R.Pigott in Pinner who appears on 2002 UK Infodisc).
RS 21 July 2003

Heather
Did you have any luck re Goble Farm? I'm trying to identify a John abd Mary Goble who migrated from England to Canada supposedly in 1836 together with 8 children . The eldest daughter Mary ( born abt 1822) married a William Dorland probably about 1839 in the Halton County area Canada ( present day Oakville). Mary Dorland nee Goble died in Ingersoll Ontario in October 1900. Her obituary states that her fanily came from Suffolk, which I doubt Her mother Mary Goble died in 1880 also in Ingersoll The father, John Goble was a farm labourer. I've always assumed the Gobles were part of an parish assisted emmigration I'm trying .

A number of other Goble families migrated about the same time.My guess is that the various groups were related. I'm trying to establish where John and Mary originated.
