I am looking for Elizabeths maiden name. she was married to Basil Sutherland who died in 1918. She had 4 sons, 4 daughters and 3 step children. Roy E Sutherland was the only child I could find from the Elizabeth/Basil marriage.
she married Charles Quesenberry in 1925.

The large genealogy of Jeffrey FERRIS and his descendants has the following couple:
SAMUEL FERRIS born August 17, 1773; baptized Stamford CT, and died October 28, 1858; buried Cemetery at Middle Patent, North Castle (Armonk), Westchester Co NY; married 1st Sally SUTHERLAND born November 12, 1779 and died September 4, 1819 [dau of Silas]; buried with Samuel.

Does anyone know if this couple had any other children besides daughter Sally Ann who died at age 14 yrs? Or how Sally may be related to Samuel SUTHERLAND, born about 1798 NY, and has a FERRIS family residing with him in 1860 North Castle, Westchester Co., NY?

My Grandmother Was Buelah May Sutherland, Daughter of Theodore Sutherland and Josephine Aldridge. Theodore is the Son of Lewis Berry Sutherland and Hariet Caroline Huddleston. George Sutherland was a Brother to Lewis Berry Sutherland and a Uncle to my Mother. He was born around 1860, I believe in Arkansas?? Don't know if this is the George Sutherland you are looking for. I am looking for any information on Buelah May Sutherland. Hope this helps you.

John Sutherland 1763 or 1760 to 1813

I am descended from John Sutherland of Kildonan who came to Canada on the "Prince of Wales" he helped out Lord Selkirk. I was wondering if I could be desenced from him because he had I believe he had a son called John who was born in 1792 in Kildonan and died in Jones County, Iowa in 1878. Am I correct?

My mother was a Sutherland. Her father Frank was born in San Francisco, his Father Eben b. 1867, came from Nova Scotia in 1887 and married Bridget Flynn. Eben's father William Sutherland b. Sep 1840, married Melinda Rood b. Feb 1843 in Nova Scotia. They had eight other children: Alexander b. 1865, Alonzo b. 1869, Gothree/Orpah/Mary? b. 1871, Dimock, 1874, A. Henrietta b. 1877, R. Aaron b. 1879, Jeanette b. 1882, and William/Walter? b. 1885. All but William were born in Nova Scotia. William was born in Massachusetts after the family migrated to the US in 1882. Hope there is a connection somewhere in there!

Justus Sutherland married Catherine??Sutherland. Children Christopher Columbus, Daniel Justus and Jane.
Justus was born in Ma.,abt. 1792. Catherine in New York abt 1795. Christopher, new York, Married Melvivida ?? Sutherland.

I live near Jamie the scotchmans grave. I am a direct descendant and know he lived and died here in southwest Virginia. There is a lot of work that was done by my father before he died on this subject locked in a trunk and my brothers house.
If you like I can take pictures or take you personally to his grave. It is marked with his nam but stands alone in a thicket near carbo in Russell county. (very hard to find if you dont know what you are looking for.

I'm not quite sure how we're related, but my SUTHERLANDS probably had Silas SUTHERLAND(s) named after this early Silas SUTHERLAND of Bangall, N.Y. My line (under Roger SUTHERLAND) headed west to Becks Mill, Indiana from Bangall, NY about 1815. It's thought that cheap land grants lured them to Indiana and after Roger and his family saw the high taxes wanted to pay for the ill fated Indiana Canal system, the 'clan' moved farther west to Milo IL, Iowa and Missouri. Really interesting that another line of 'cousins' decided to stick it out in Indiana!

George Flett Burns was not Moses Burns son he was his cousin. There used to be the history post on line or you can purchase a book called not sure of title but, People of Riding Mountain by George Scott. You will find some history in there along with a picture.

Is this a descendant of Elijah Sutherland that passed away in New York? The only child I have listed for Elijah and Mary is George Washington. I found Elijah in a New York census living with David & Sarah Scoville. I believe Sarah must have been his daughter but have no information.

Sharon Owens Sutherland, 62, of Portland died on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at her home.

She is survived by: her husband, James "Jimmy" Sutherland of Portland; daughters, Pam (Chris) Dile of Springfield and Dawn (Luis) Duarte of Springfield; stepdaughter, Robin (Hobbs) Parker of Bristol; sister, Lana (Dee) Duty of Big Rock; brother, Blaine (Robin) Owens of Bristol, VA.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 29, at Farris Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon, VA. Interment was in Forrest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, VA.

Portland Funeral Chapel was in charge of local arrangements.

James Scott Sutherland is my Great Grandfather. I have been able to find out most details about him, except - From where in the UK he departed, on what date and what ship he emigrated to Australia upon.

Details that I have at this point are: Birth 19 September 1828 at Berwick Upon Tweed, now Northern England; Married Mary Giles in Melbourne Victoria on 13 June 1853; Produced eight sons- William 1856, Andrew 1857; George 1860; James Scott 1863; Richard 1865; Thomas 1867; Llewellyn 1871;and Henry 1872. He also had three daughters - Elenor 1854; Mary Jeannet 1869 and Grace 1874. He died in Melbourne on 20 October 1912. Grateful if someone could assist please.

from Lancaster? Mary was born around 1800 I think as her
marriage bands were posted on Jan 3, 1824. Mary married Alexander Grant also from Lancaster, he was born in 1795. They movedto Cornwall and had several Children, then moved to
Coteau Du Lac and had 2 more children.

I didn't know there were Sutherlands descended from Silas or his brothers anywhere past Indiana, but it sounds like Kaptain71 has a handle on them. For me, they'd be in-laws.

My only Sutherland connection was to Silas' wife Sarah (Sally) Cummings, and to her brother David Cummings' wife Martha Sutherland.

I'm looking for information about the parents and siblings of Mary Jane Sutherland who was in the 1850 Cass Co. TX census with her mother Mary, 45, sister Nancy, 12, Thomas, 9 and John 7, all born in TN. Her sister Aseneth, 21, lives next door with her husband John G. Reeves. Mary, a widow, migrated to Cass Co. in the later 1840's. Possible ties to the Storeys and Sutherlands who migrated from TN around the same time.

I have just seen your message from 2005!

My grandfather was called John Guthrie Sutherland, although he was born in Leith of Orcadian parents. His grandfather was Donald Sutherland & his grandmother Barbara Guthrie.
He spent many years in Warwickshire, England, where my mother was born. Her mother, Jane Duncan, was from Burray .

This has to be the same person? Interested to hear from you.

I am looking for information on William Sutherland, b. 1837. He was married to Melinda and had my great grandfather Eben in 1867 in Nova Scotia, and a brother named Alonzo? abt 1869 also in Nova Scotia. The family seems to have moved to Massachusetts after 1881, and Eben moved to San Francisco sometime before 1890 and worked for the railroad. Alonzo had a son named Bertram who moved to California with his uncle. I have a photo of William dated Aug 1931 and says it was taken in Mass, and that he would be 94 yrs. old on 13 Sep 1931. Anyone related to or know of this family? Thanks so much for your help!

My great grandfather, Eben Sutherland, born May 1867 in Nova Scotia, and came to America in 1877 or 1887 according to census records. He married my great grandmother, Mary Goodfellow in 1891 in San Francisco. They had eleven children: Ruth, Jeanette, William, Agnes, Edith, Edson, Charles, Irene, Frank, Maybelle, Regina. He died in San Jose in 1929. I am the granddaughter of their son Frank and his wife Nellie Swanson. Looking for information on any of their other children, and any possible descendants.

Robert Sutherland's mother was not Mary, but Susanna Neef or Neff. Her brother was Herman. I believe her mother was also Susanna, and she may have also immigrated to the US or at least visited. Check Ancestry. com for more info under Bernard Douglass tree. His mother was married 3 times, with children from each marriage. Robert claims in his memoirs that he was the third Robert, and his son was the fourth. His father was the slave trader, mason, etc. But I do not have much on him except what memoirs says. Sharon Z.

Two sons: William Harry Sutherland b. 1956 and John Louis Sutherland b. 1940. Six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.

Harry's parents: father:Frederick Culver Sutherland 1883-1948 mother: Hattie J. Fries 1882-1929
Harry's grandfather: Redding Lefferts Sutherland 1849-1929
I believe Redding's father was also "Redding", but still digging. Let me know if you need more info on Harry.
