Hi Michele,

My maternal grandfather is a Sutter and I have 'scroll 3 of 3' which goes back to Jakob who died in 1654. I too have been told by my grandfather before he died, that there is info back to 1200 AD as well. He said the monks in our hometown of Appenzell, Switzerland kept excellent records. It would be interesting where we may meet up in our respective trees. I have only been on Ancestry.com for 3 days and have 250 in my tree already...it's addicting!

Kind regards,
Michael Fidanza

My grandmother was Ella Sutter, born, raised and died in Switzerland. She was the daughter of the company 'A.Sutter' out of Oberhofen-Münchwilen in Switzerland. Her father started the company, which was then run by her brother Alfred. She had a sister named Doris also. The factory was then sold to Unilever in the 1960 time frame. They made shoe polish, floor polishes, waxes, machinery, etc. My grandmother told me she went to San Francisco once (probably 1950's) and recieved a token gold key to the city, as a relative of John Augustus. I would be interested in seeing any genealogy that ties this all together! Thanks

Like many others, I am contacting you because I have been told my Rudin family is related to John Augustus Sutter.

The Rudins are from Arboldswil Switzerland. Most of the children of Heinrich Rudin and Eva Reimann (children were born between 1866 and 1891) seemed to have lived in the Stuttgart Germany area before emigrating. They first settled in Chicago and some moved to Seattle.

Supposedly, there was a family farm somewhere but no descendants no where it is.

Hello,

I stumbled on this webpage and thought I'd introduce myself. I grew up with my dad telling me Captain John Sutter was the great uncle of his dad, Bernard Albert Sutter, born in Cleveland. I saw my grandfather's death certificate several years ago and noticed that his father was of Swiss descent and his mother French (as I recall). My grandfather worked as an architect--his job took him to the Chicago area, where my family is from.

Any information you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

Heidi

My ancestor is George Sutter born in (1820)Sommerset, Pennsylvania we think. We have proof that he married Catherine/Chatherine Weimer (1817-born in Milford, Sommerset, Pennsylvania)on 25 Mar 1866. I need to know if anyone has proof or information leading to the fact that Georges father is Daniel Sutter married to Eve Sheets or of some other parentage. If we have the correct information they are of German decent and not related to John or anyone famous. George and Catherine had 8 or 9 Children. Margaret Sutter (1844)born in Milford, Sommerset, Pennsylvania was their daughter. She married Wallace Elija Rinker (1846)Pinerock, Ogle Illinois. He died young when trying to save a family in a flood. Someone in Colorado has information of the Weimers that may have some information of our ancestors. If you can help here I would be excited to here from you.

I do know that my great, great grandparents are Jake Sutter (b. Switersland, 1842-1916) and Floretta Myton (b. Ohio, 1846-1928).

Maria Buttner or Buettner, Jacob 1822, and Mag 1828, Ursala Anselm John and Catherine died 3-13-1897, then the rest i know from listening to my Grandmother talk, and is more 1900 and on....... Not sure if this is any help. But feel free to ask away. Tom

Hi There!

I am not sure if there is a connection or not. I think that everyone would like to be related to someone famous or historical. I am sure my grandfather believed we were related to John Sutter, but I have a feeling that we aren't. My husband and I are huge hockey fans and it would be really cool to be related to the NHL Sutter's, haha!

I started this thread and I feel bad that I haven't posted in quite sometime, I appreciate everyone's input :-) Unfortunately, I don't have a whole lot of information. I did put together a tree from what I know and from some of the information that I found here. Are others able to see your tree? I would be happy to share.

~Tamee

I am descended from German come Canadian Sutters. We were also told that we were connected to John Sutter of Gold Rush Fame but no connection found here either. I think it was wishful thinking to be related to someone famous. We were also told we were related to the Sutters of NHL hockey fame which also didn't bear out. If you wish to share some of the information you have we may be able to help you figure out some connection or maybe just find other Sutter relations.

Christol
