Hi, I am looking for the parents of Alma Sutton, born 1888 in Missouri. She was married to Thomas (Tom) Larwood Denney. The census says that her parents were born in Tennessee, and I have reason to believe her mother also died in Tennessee, which makes me wonder if Alma was actually born in MO or TN. Any information or leads on her parents would be appreciated. Thanks!

My grandmother, Minnie Bell Sutton, was born in Quincy, Adams county, Iowa on February 26, 1882. At about age 3-6 she was placed in the Woodland Home for Orphans and Friendless in Quincy, Illinois (note change of state), where she was adopted by McClintock Brown, from Barry, Illinois in 1888. She lived the rest of her life in Barry.

I am looking for Sutton relatives, perhaps in Iowa. I know that she had a brother Harry, who married and had a son Allen. Allen married someone named Fern on January 19, 1942. Sound familiar?

Hi all,

Looking for information on the Joseph Sutton family found in the 1850 Census in Richland Township, Phillips County, Arkansas. It shows Joseph and Mary with children Edward, Mary, and then looks like possibly Fred, Sarah, David and Ann C. Really can not read the last 4 children's names from the census - just my best guess. And then could not locate this family again in the same county in the 1860 census.

This could be my Edward Sutton I've been looking for ---

If you have any information on this family please help! :0)

Thanks.
Blessings from another Texas line,
Carolann (Sutton) Cody

My father is a descendant of Thomas Sutton (b. 1799 in NC) and Hannah Lawson of Claiborne County, TN. His great grandfather is James Thomas Sutton and grandfather is Noah Sutton. We recently participated in DNA testing and discovered no matches to any Sutton surnames and the Haplogroup is I1. I am wondering if any other males descendants of Thomas have been tested as I would like to confirm that the same Haplogroup was determined or if anyone knows of a surname change that could have occurred due to an adoption or perhaps Thomas was an indentured servant at one time?

Paula Sutton

Sutton in the British Army 10th Regiment

My grandmother, Edith Kate Sutton, born 13 July 1874 in Colchester was the daughter of a member of the British Army - specifically in the 10th Regiment. This Regiment saw service in South Africa - the Cape Colony. She came out to South Africa as a young girl and grew up here which indicates that the family saw a fairly lengthy service in the Cape. She married my grandfather, Edward George Smith, in about 1894. They had 7 children. She lived in South Africa for the rest of her life as did at least one sibling, Samuel Sutton. I am looking for anything about this family, the 10th Regiment and where some of them landed up as the Regiment went on to serve in other parts of the world as well.

Walter SUTTON, resided in Sterling, Kansas 1920

Do you know of a Walter Sutton b. 1884 where i dont know. He was found in
sterling kansas census in 1920 but are unable to find him earlyier. there
are 4 children of his and his wife Mary K. Fields and this was also found.
The children were Marvin, Clara, Rena, and Herman. It is said he was of
cherokee indain. My mother says that thay came from covered wagon from the
south in the late 1800's to kansas and he never accepted the indain rights.
She offten talked about Blackwell, OK which in the 1800's was the cherokee
strip or close to it. Is there any other place i should be looking in. I am
very lost here. I am also unable to find any death records of 3 of the
children which was Marvin Sutton my Grandfather. If Herman Sutton is still
alive he might answer allot of questions. He is not listed on the ssd index.
I still after 5 years have not found the parents of Walter C. Sutton. I did
find the place where he was buried and the records did not show his parents.
I hope anyone can help.
Terry Sutton
Pat, do you know where John B. Sutton,b. 1701, came from? I have an indication that Thomas Cotes(Coates) Sutton b. ca 1720, spent time in Gloucester co. NJ in Woolrich township. Thomas was the father of John, James, Thomas,Joseph,Moses and Panell,Mary and Margaret Sutton of Salem co. Thomas jr. had a daughter,Elizabeth, with Mary Abbott. Elizabeth Sutton, married Daniel Parvin. They named a son,Fithian Stratton Parvin. He was born in 1810 in Cumberland co. Thomas' sons ended up in Crawford co. PA with Seeleys and other surnames from Salem and Cumberland Co. NJ Is it possible that Thomas Cotes Sutton could be son of John B. and brother of Sarah?Sarah Reed Mills is the same age as Penell Sutton Mead, whose husband Richard, was a Loyalist also, went to Nova Scotia with other Loyalists. Maybe some of your Seeley and MIlls answers could be found in Crawford Co. PA also?

My 2nd cousin and I have been trying to find information on our G G Grandmother. We know that she died soon after her daughter Ann Eliza was born (around 1868) as her father, William, re-married in 1873 to Henrietta Green in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England. We have tried in vain to find a registration of Ann Eliza's birth and have been unable to find an entry on the 1871 British Census for William and daughter Ann Eliza with first wife. All census' for Ann Eliza say that she was born in Camberwell, Surrey. We know that William's father was John and believe that William could have been born in or around Beaconsfield. We are desperate to fill in the gap by finding Ann Eliza's mother.
If you can shed light on who she is we would be eternally grateful. Ann Eliza went on to marry Henry John Prickett in 1890 in Middlesex.

PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

Reeta Ramona Sutton
Posted: Friday, Jan 25, 2008 - 11:10:44 am PST
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE

Reeta Ramona Sutton of Moses Lake, passed away on Jan. 20, 2008, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was 77.

Reeta was born in Corvallis, Ore., on Sept. 27, 1930, to Hubert and Viola Robbins. She lived her entire life in western Oregon until moving to Washington in 2001 to be closer to her son, Michael, living first in Richland, and then moving to Moses Lake in 2004.

Reeta married Carl Nordsten in 1953 with whom she had one son, Michael, and one daughter, Carla. In 1964, Reeta married Robert Jorgensen Sr. whose life had already been blessed with three children: Robert Jr., Raymond, and Martin. Their lives were further blessed with the addition of a daughter, Shirley, in 1966. In 1972, Reeta married James Sutton, a teacher, who was already the father of Timothy, Charles, and Ann.

Reeta's life was full of excitement, adventure, and unique experiences. She grew up and raised her family in the Eugene, Ore., area. In her early years, she was a bookkeeper for a lumberyard and a secretary in the district attorney's office. She later became the bookkeeper for her second husband's logging business. When they sold the logging business in 1968 and moved to Blachly, Ore., to raise cattle, Reeta became a rancher's wife. In addition to running the household, she lent a hand in everything from feeding cattle to changing irrigation pipe to driving the hay truck. After being widowed in 1971, Reeta decided to return to school at the age of 42. It was during her first year in college that she fell in love with anthropology. Over the next six years, she pursued her anthropology degree while she raised her family with the help of her new husband, Jim. At the age of 48, she graduated with honors from Oregon State University.

After Jim retired from teaching in 1979, they purchased Point Imports from its Portland owners and moved it to Eugene. Over the next six years, they built Point Imports into a successful business, selling brass, basketry and carpets to a variety of retail outlets in Oregon, Washington, and California. They made frequent buying trips to India, often traveling for hours by train into the remote reaches of India to see firsthand the production of the many items they stocked and sold in their business. These train trips were far from pleasant in the summer months, as the rail cars were neither air conditioned nor comfortable. But for Reeta and Jim, it was an adventure they cherished.

In addition to frequent business travel, Reeta and Jim enjoyed pleasure trips to Hong Kong, Japan, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Nicaragua, Belize, and many parts of Mexico. They also enjoyed a two-week trip to Germany and Austria with their son, Michael, in 1990. Reeta's sister and husband also joined them for this trip.

For the past 10 years, Reeta was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having been baptized in McMinnville, Ore., by her son Michael. She served as a name extractor for genealogy work until such time as her Alzheimer's made it difficult for her to do so.

In addition to her parents, Reeta was preceded in death by her husbands Robert Jorgensen (1971) and James Sutton (1995), former husband Carl Nordsten (1973), and stepsons Raymond Jorgensen and Timothy Sutton. She is survived by her sister Dolores Lynch (Charles) of Eugene, Ore., son Michael Nordsten (Kate) of Richland, Wash., daughters Carla Nordsten and Shirley Carter (Jon) of Salem, Ore., stepdaughter Ann Luecke (Bill) of Exeter, Calif., stepsons Martin Jorgensen (Emily) of Honolulu, Hawaii, Robert Jorgensen (Pat) of Turlock, Calif., and Charles Sutton of Nashville, Tenn., and cousin Juanita Hampton (Warren) of Talent, Ore., numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews from her extended family also survive her.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Moses Lake Senior Living for the loving care they gave Reeta. Special thanks also go to Penny Weber and her staff at Lakeside Adult Family Home where Reeta spent the last 17 days of her life, as well as Central Basin Home Health and Hospice whose staff was always available day or night. The family is also deeply indebted to Bishop Rod Redford and his wife for the support and love they gave Reeta during her years in Moses Lake, and especially during the waning days of her earthly life as she prepared to return to the presence of her Heavenly Father. And finally, a personal thank you from Michael and Kate to Craig Morrison and Clint Scriven of Kayser's Funeral Home for the comfort and kindness they provided on the evening that Mom passed away.

Reeta's wishes to be cremated were honored. A memorial service for friends and family will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1321 Jadwin Avenue, in Richland, Wash. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer's Disease Research Center in Reeta's name. More information on how to do this may be found at www.alzresearch.org/giving.cfm.
