Swain origins and traits

The first Swain was Otto Swain, a Danish Viking who invaded the British Isles, Spain and the Mediterranean areas. The name is spelled differently in each country, of course. What has interested me about my Swain line, is that there is a consistent interest in the oceans. The farthest back I can go in my line is into the late 1700's, to a ship captain. As I have studied my line, down to living descendants, I have noticed a consistent preference for living on coastal areas and involvement in water sports and activities. I wonder how many Swains have inheritied this trait and how many of you have Swains that have done the same thing? Since I am doing very extensive historical research, I find it very interesting and fascinating. I remember reading that Swains tend to be outgoing and socialble people, which certainly fits my family all the way down. Just knowing the origins of the Swains has helped me to understand my own Swain line better, and the interests of my living family as well as my deceased family members. U also find it very rewarding to fit people into a social and historical context, rather than just searching for records. Sue
