Hi Phyllis,
Sorry, PEI and Robert Swallow I are my earliest knowledge of my direct line.
Verified is that Robert Swallow I was the first Swallow in PEI. He had 100 acres on Lot 56 on the 1811 map.

Unverifed is he was born abt. 1790 in Yorkshire, England. That birthyear would be accurate according to his death notice of April 1865.

Robert (1st) was my g gr. grandfather and Marie his daughter was my gr. grandmother.

Unverified is the family legend that he arrived PEI via ship of the Royal Navy. During a brawl on board he and one or two shipmates jumped over board, swam to shore near Capy Spry and were hidden by settlers until the ship left port. Other men are never named

There is also a disagreement between two PEI Historian/Genealogists. One did finally agree that Robert Swallow was the first but I am sure some people obtained erroneous information from him and believe William Swallow
was the first on PEI.

The first William Swallow on the island Robert Swallow's son.

Most of his descendents married early family names of PEI and stayed there. A few did go to Mass and some to Nova Scotia, but those were mid to late 1880's.
My gr. grandfather went to California USA, but he immigrated with wife 2 cause my gr. grandmother Marie Chaffey nee Swallow died on the same day her father did in April 1865.
I babble-sorry,
Helen Mc
