Re: Is Alice Swanson,Cherokee Co.Ga. sister of William Jeremiah Barker

Verna,

This is Charlotte. I can't reply to your message of tonight for some reason. The system says the message isn't for me.

I am thinking that Alice Barker was probably the sister to your William Jeremiah Barker & half-sister to Rutha Ann Barker Swanson rather than to Rutha's husband, Joseph Marion Swanson.

I believe that William Jeremiah Barker is probably the same person who is found with the Howell family in 1870:

####
1870 Federal Census
Pickens Co, Georgia
Jasper Post Office
Page 6 Lines 21-25
9 June 1870

Dwelling 39 Family 39:

Howell John W M Age 22 Farmer Reads Cannot Write b. GA

Elizabeth W F Age 23 Keeping House Cannot Read or Write b. GA

Eli W M Age 3 b. GA

John F. W M Age 2/12 b. April GA

Barker Wm W M Age 9 Assisting on Farm b. GA
####

Elizabeth, (age 23 in the above census), was Mary Elizabeth Barker Howell, daughter of Jeremiah Barker & Mary "Polly" Pinyan/Pinian. Of that I am certain, so Mary Elizabeth Barker Howell would have been a full sister to Rutha.

Mary "Polly" Pinyan Barker would have been too old to be the mother to Alice & William Jeremiah Barker. I know that Jeremiah Barker, b. abt 1790, SC was still living as late as 4 Dec 1862, because he asked for money owed to his sons who had died in the Civil War.

I have his oldest known son, (to me that is), as James Barker b. abt 1829. Of course Jeremiah could have had older sons given his age.

You can email me geofiz1@aol.com

Frederick Swanson and son Elwood Swanson Oakland,Alameda County CA

Looking for any info for Elwood Swanson (my grandfather) and his father Fred Swanson. I have very little information on Elwood, but have conflicting birth dates. He was born May 3rd either in 1893 or 1896. He lived in Oakland,Alameda County CA, and his mother was Charlotte Logan Sibrian (was married to Jose E Sibrian prior to marriage to Fred Swanson). Charlotte was born in 1852 so have no idea if she could even be his birth mother because of her age when he was born. I have tried finding birth record through vitalsearch with no success. I have Elwood's death certificate and most of the information was recorded as "unknown" . Fred Swanson is another big mystery. Have found some information through Ancestry but no census or vital info. I know that a few newspaper articles linked to Charlotte refers to him as Frederick and marriage approx 1892. What is also interesting is I can't find any of them (including Charlotte's children from Sibrian) in the 1900 Census. It's like they all disappeared! I believe Fred died around 1909, but what I'm really interested is the time period on and before 1900. The info I have just doesn't add up!

John August Bergman was the name of my grandfather (my "given name" namesake); and, your story about his birth and immigration to the USA both fit what little I know about my ancestry; also, my late cousin's daughter (cousin was Dale Smith, son of my father's [Oscar Peter [Peder] Bergman)sister (Edith Bergman Ruden)), Melissa Sparlin, is on this board: She has much more information than I.

John August's wife was Karin Swanson Bergman, and her brother "Swan" (pronounced "Svan") is buried in our family plot at Park Hill Cemetary in Duluth MN. I am presently "in-charge" of that family plot. Could "Svan" be your relative; maybe even the person about whom you are asking?

I also know of another burial plot there, nearby, with "Muster Brita", Karin's sister, (literally "mother's sister Brita") Swanson's burial stone.

What information can you share with me? Perhaps I can fill-in some blanks too.

Thanks, JLB

Trying to break though a major brick wall on my Swanson line. My great grandfathers name was William Monroe Swanson born March 22, 1867. We have found "some" information that his fathers name was John however we have no dates, and have came to the conclusion that John may have been a nick name or middle name, due to not being able to find anything that helps us to connect anything. We are trying to go at this in all angles we can think of. We believe that my Swanson line came from Scotland, then Georgia before coming to Kentucky. If anyone has a Swanson male in their line with a son , William with the above DOB
please let me know. They could have possibly been from Illinois. I greatly appreciaty your help

Hello cousin Ethel, and thank you so much for this message, Iam very interested in finding out about my fathers family and history. I never met my grandmother or grandfather, have seen pictures and heard stories, but I am hungry for any information you could provide about my ancestors, from the Swanson family. After my Aunt Dorothy passed away about 5 years ago, her husband gave my father many pictures I had never seen and Dad went through them with me, many pictures of his Uncle Julius so I know who your father is, and I believe you are named after your mother? My email is jyrehab@wildblue.net. Thank you, Janis Irene Schowerer Young

I do not have much beyond my grandparents, but there are other Swanson relatives in Florida who may have (check the Lookhoff family -- that is Sophie Swanson Lookhoff's people, she was a sister of Irene Schowerer). The mother of George Schowerer Sr. may have been a Hackenburg, I am not sure. Mary Swanson Benson, another sister, also died in Florida and had three children and many grandchildren. But you may know all that. My e-mail is eddesez@verizon.net. Let me know if I can help further.
Regards, Cousin Ethel!

Help with when Swanson & Rickard meet??

I am looking for the male that married Abigail that made her a Swanson. I do not have her madien name. She had the following children:

Mildred (maybe, could have died at birth)
Irene
Pauline (she married Chester G. Strebe on Jun 14, 1922
Carl Malone

When the Swanson relationship dissolved she married Rickard and Rickard had all their last names changed to Rickard. And that is my grandfather pasted the Rickard last name to me. Since he was the only male of that Swanson bloodline he got the family Bible from the 1800's (King James Version). Now my dad has it. I still have to have a look at it.

Brian Rickard
(573) 289-5908
celtic_wyndes_farm@yahoo.com

Hello, I am needing assistance in my ancestry and my family lines including the Swanson family. Any information on William M Swanson( I am finding conflicting places of birth) 3-22-1867. Also According to his death certificate his fathers name was John. I have found his mothers name was Nancy McDonald Swanson, but can find no dates on either one. From the "hints" that I have they were in Kentucky. Any information on this line would be so appreciated and if anyone has any photos on this line I would really love to have them for my scrapbook I am working on at this time.
I am trying to find information about my husband's maternal great grandfather and grandmother. His name was Hawkin Swanson and apparently came from Sweden in 1873 or 74. His daughter Ebba was my husband's grandmother. She had a twin brother and graduated from Moorehead College in Wisconsin. She then went to Haver, Montana to homestead 180 acres and married James Arthur Bird, also a homesteader and mailman in Haver in Great Falls,Montana in 1916. She was a school teacher in both Fargo and Haver.
