Thanks so much for the offer...Karel has already checked her book and can find nothing on our Samuel. We're about to think he fell off the turnip wagon or sprouted from under a cabbage leaf. :-D
Anyway, what we know about Samuel is: According to ages on the census records he was born about 1825 in North Carolina. He married Prudence Beach, born abt 1828 in Tennessee. We can locate them in the census records for Prairie Twp, Arkansas County, Arkansas in 1850 and then Prairie Twp, Carroll County, Arkansas in 1860 and 1870. Samuel was not listed in the 1870 census and his wife Prudence was listed as a widow. Family lore says that he was murdered by some bushwackers about 1861 or '62 on his farm in Carroll County, when they shoved his pipe down his throat. Family lore also says that Prudence witnessed it.
Samuel and Prudence's children were: Sarah Elizabeth, b. abt 1848 (listed as Elizabeth on the census records), she married James Lasley; Queen Victoria, b. abt 1849, m. John Marion Ross; Emily B.K. (or P.K.) "Kansas", b. abt 1854, m. Joseph Ross; Caledonia Prudence, b. 16 Dec 1857, m. Marion G. Clark; Columbia Alta, b. 21 Jul 1859, m. John Thomas Essman; Samuel H., b. abt 1861, d. abt 1882.
We're very curious at where they came up with some of their daughter's names. They seem pretty unusual to us. Anyway, if there is any way you can help, I would be very grateful.
