On Feb. 7, 2007, Mary Ann died in a hospital near her home in Ladera Ranch, Calif., after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Emil and Sophia Passon of rural Pulaski. Mary Ann was a school teacher and worked for the Dept. of Defense, as a teacher throughout Europe, Africa, French Morraco and Puerto Rico, where she met and married Capt. Norman Gill. They later moved to Washington, D.C., until her husband retired from the Navy.
Survivors are stepson, Patrick Gill, U.S. Navy, his wife, Jenny and their three children, Stonging, Conn.; sister, Esther Ann (Walter) Deering, Red River (rural Shawano); nieces, Cindy (Mark) Pikula, Andover, Minn.; Patricia Passon, St. Paul, Minn.; nephews, Tim (Linda) Passon, Blaine, Minn., Garth Passon, Victoria, Australia; and her dog, Fritzie, the love of her life and best friend.
Preceding her in death are her first husband, Capt. Norman Gill; her second husband, Al Sweeny; brother, Edward (Eddie) Passon; sister-in-law, Janet Passon. There was a private graveside service at BVM Assumption Cemetery, at Pulaski.
Many Ann being from a small town of Pulaski, a country girl; she lived a full and colorful life. From traveling the world over, to being invited to the of the U.S. Marine Corps dinner and anniversary ball at the White House, perhaps the highlight of her life. So to all the small town girls out there, she would say "Go for it!"
