Hi Don,
Nice to hear from you. I have only been working on this Sweet line for about 4 months and did fairly well until I reached Mahala Sweet and her husband Lorenzo Williams in Crawford County Arkansas. Mahala was born abt. 1815 in Tennessee as records indicate, and they were married March 6, 1831 in Crawford County. Lorenzo was born in Onslow, NC. I have many books on Cherokees but none have any Sweets in them, but a few have Sweetwaters. Do you have anything to add? Thanks for your reply, David

My siblings are the children of William Bryan/Brian Sweetwater from eastern OK. His parents are Bryan/Brian and Mildred Sweetwater. I believe Brian/Bryan's mother was Betsy. They were all of of Cherokee descent. I am interested in finding out more about their history.

Don & David,
I want to say thank you both for replying and wish you good luck on your search for you family. I myself haven't done any research on this in quite a while. I ran into a very large snag. With the wonders of paper work from back in those days, They had entered my Great-great Grand father John Franklin Sweetwater as my Great grandfather Charlie Willam Sweetwater's father. And obviously it was the other way around. I've been unable to retrieve any paper documents on either of the Grand father's.

Hi Charlotte,
I just read your post from a couple of years ago and wondered if you had come across any information about these two Sweetwater men. I have a Mahala Sweet that married a Lorenzo Williams in Crawford County, Arkansas in 1831. Crawford County is right on the river, near Oklahoma where the Cherokees ended up and records show that she was born in Tennessee and I wondered if maybe she shortened her surname to sever her indian ties.
