My father is Joseph Valarian Swiderski and his father was also Joseph Swiderski they both were born in Ashland Wisconsin. My great Aunt Ciel Swiderski talked fluent Polish and when I was a child she was teaching me Polish. She maintained very regular contact with the family in Poland until her death. After her death all her letters and correspondence was lost. I was given a bookmark with a saying in Polish on it with a Chicken on it. I looked into the death records and was unable to find anything from my Grandparents birthplace other than POLAND. I also checked immigration in the US and have the feeling they may have actually gone to Canada first and then entered the US. My grandfather worked on the Railroad most of his life. I desperately want to find where my family is from and I would like to know what the family name means. My Great Aunt told me it was Son of the Carpenter or Auggerman. Any info would be appreciated.
