Illinois City, Ill -- Marcellus C. Swift, 85, of Illinois City, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Unity Hospital after a sudden illness.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Graveside services will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport.
Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of the arrangemetns. Memorials may be made to the Benedictine Fathers in Belvidere, Ill.
Mr. Swift was born Jan. 7, 1915, in Riverside, the son of Charles and Mary Swift. He married Thelma Marie Schott.
He attended the University of Iowa and three years of pharmacy school.
He retired in 1963 from John Deere Plow and Planter in Moline, Ill.
Survivors include his sons, Robert J. Swift of Illinois City and Paul E. Swift of Westchester; grandchildren, Shane C. Swift, Wendy S. Swift, Marty M. Swift, Monty Swift, and Laurie Ann Swift; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond C. Swift, in 1994; a grandson, Sean Swift, in 1987; two brothers and a sister.
