Do you know anything else about him? Clayton Leroy is a pretty unusual name.
I have a Clayton Leroy Sweigart, born in Pennsylvania. His parents were Henry Jacob and Emma Elizabeth (FUNK) SWEIGART. Clayton, born on 26 October 1924, was one of at least 12 children. Much of the family remained in the Liverpool area, in Perry County, Pennsylvania.
I don't have any information on his adult life, but if this sounds like it could be a match, just let me know!

sorry I didn't catch this before. My Julia Ann Swigart is the daughter of a John Swigart and wife Mary Wagner from PA born 3 Dec 1817 d 24 Mar 1903. I do have a brother of hers. That is all the information I have on her other than her's and Henry Zepp's descendants. Henry and Julia Ann are buried in the Green Hill Cemetery in Martinsburg, WV If you need any information I have I am more than willing to share and would like to be shared with. I am descended from Henry/Julia Ann their son, George/Mary Frances Burns/Zepp, their son James Clark/ Josephine Wiley Clemmons/Zepp and finally Ernest/Amelia Zepp/Shade/Thompson.

Swigart/Murphy information for Family Tree

I am trying to find out some information about my Great Grandfather. His name was Orville Swigart. But I am told that he was adopted. I was also told that his real last name was Murphy.

I was told that when I was a child, that we had several Swigart/Murphy family reunions. But I only remember one. The last one I remember going to was in the early to mid 80's, like 1980-1984, maybe earlier that that, but I do not remember for sure. Any way the last one I member was at a camping ground west of Omaha, Nebraska.

If anyone can help me get more information on the family of Swigart and Murphy I would greatly appreciate the help. In case you need more information Orville Swigart had a son named Lawrence O. Swigart. I am not sure but I believe that the "O" in my grand fathers name was for Orville. If I remember right, my mom said that her dad, Lawrence, middle name was after her grandfather Orville. My mom's name in case this helps is Carol (Swigart) Ray. My name is Ronald Lee Ray Jr. I live in Council Bluffs, Iowa, same as my mom, and grand parents (prier to their death).

Does anyone have information Jacob and Andrew Swigart who appear on the 1850 thru 1880 Census records for Jefferson County, Virginia/West Virginia. They are listed as being born in Pennsylvania. Andrew was born circa 1811, and Jacob circa 1814. A possible brother is Henry, who appears on the 1850 Census in the same location. Possible sister is Elizabeth Hill, wife of Benjamin Hill, b. circa 1813 in Pennsylvania. Any information regarding these individuals, where they were born, the names of their parents and other family members would be appreciated.

I am looking for information on my Grandmother. Her name was Lela Irene Swigart. She married Sherman Barr from Logan county. They lived in Pike county. They had two sons Max, and Jacob Lewis. Jacob was born July 21, 1905 in Lakeview Ohio. I believe Lela was the daughter of David Swigart and Irene Moody. Any information would be appreciated.

Through my maternal grandfather I am related to Nathan Swigart born 1831, died Oct 23 1883 - was from Stark City, Ohio. Any relation? He married Harriet Jane Willey and they had 10 children: Clara, Herbert, Louis, Otho, Clarence, Sam, and Ada J. (my grandfather's mother -- She married Amos A. Rothrock in 1892 in Richfield Ohio.

This is my husband's last name, and we know absolutely nothing about it. Can't find anything about them anywhere! I believe that the last name was Thorkelson and I know that they are Swedish. Anton was his great-grandfathers name, and he lived came with his brother to America. They settled in Illinois before Anton moved on to Nebraska. Does this sound anything like your family?

I don't know if this helps you in your Swigart research, but I have some information from the Hollopeter side that may interest you.

According to Ridenour and Burris' The Hollopeter Family Record (ca. 1957), Mary L. Hollopeter (b. 18 Oct 1873, resident of Troy, OH) md. William SHERMAN (d. 24 Oct 1949) in Sept. 1892. However, William and Mary's daughter's name is given as Sylvia Lydia SWIGERT [sic]. I always figured there was an error there somewhere, but had no idea what the correct information was.

Is this the same family, as far as you know? Was William's full name William Sherman Swigart? I found a Mary L. Swigart on the Ohio Death Index, 1958-1969, who d. 23 Aug 1959 in Troy, Miami Co., OH who is presumably the same individual.

I would love to compare notes with you regarding this family. I have information from Mary L. on back on the Hollopeter side if you're ever interested.

My gggrandfather was Wesley Bortel. I have seen a census listing a John Wesley Bortel in McVeytown, Mifflin Co., PA. This listing states wife as Mary Elizabeth Ronk and Ella Bortel as his daughter who married North Postelwaite Norton at the McVeytown Methodist Church.

Also living in Mifflin Co. at that time were: Maude Bortel m. Herbert Charon daughter: Mamie Alice Charon,

Rebecca Irene Bortel m. William Calvin Murfin daughter: Alma Rebecca Murfin,

and Ella L. Bortel m. John Rupert Swigart

all between 1870 and 1900.

The obit (from Oct. 22, 1998) shows Theodore married Hazel Pauline Stalker on 28 Jan. 1922. She d. 3 Nov. 1934. He married Ruth Russell on 5 Jan. 1935.

Myron Swigart and relative Sadie Swigart

My great grandmother was Mary Eva Swigart sometimes called Mamie or Maym. Her father was Myron? Swigart. She was born in Polk Co. Iowa Nove 24, 1877. She later married a Dave? Carter and had my grandfather Elmer Cain Carter. Does anyone know her father, was it Myron. Her mother either divorced him within 3 years of her birth or he died because Emma Allithier Jones Swigart went back home to Nauvoo, Ill and eventually married George JAcoby. I would be very grateful for any solid information as to the name of her father and where he came from, and of course his lineage. Thank you so much.
