Hi! For some years I ran the Swinton Family Society and have a reasonable amount of information on James Swinton born 1854 (not 1855). Briefly he was the son of George Henry Swinton and Margaret Mitchell. He was born 1854, Aug. 22 at Hutt River (just out of Wellington), North Island, New Zealand. He married Jemima Horn in 1874, Oct. 6 at Auckland NZ. He died 1914, Apr. 27 and was buried 1914, Apr. 29 at the Auckland Cemetery, NZ. James & Jemima had 7 children that I know of being: Harrold, Allan, Ethel, George Henry, Mary, William James and Agnes Swinton.I have much more on the ancestry & descendants for this family. Please contact me on gary.r.r.swinton@hotmail.com
Regards Gary R.R. Swinton

I have done quite a bit with what happened to them when they moved west, but I am at a loss on the very information you describe. All of it, would be a good answer to your question. Thank you. You have no idea -- or probably you do -- how much this means to me.
If you have to make copies or anything like that I would be happy to pay for ANY and all expenses. Or just point me to wher eyou found things. That would be great. Heidi

I have info on Swinton and his brother William because I was researching my ancestors who worked for them after coming over from Ireland, first one sister then the other who we think both worked for Swinton. I have info from the census, which you may already have and a few articles and some addresses from the directory. The connection came from what my mother remembered being told, a man named Swinton who was the editor of a New York paper Sun Times. Let me know what you need on John and his brother William (addresses (from directories), censuses, who's who article, etc.) . I will be happy to dig it up for you.
Take Care,
Eileen
Kenneth Swinton Family

Sorry this has taken me so long. I am a writer by profession and have been buried in a book the last many months and it just came out -- this week. So now I can play with Family History. Have you gone to Scotland, yet?
The way I figure our side of the family is that Kenneth Swinton (1915-1999) married Venice Cheever (1921-1978) in 1953. He adopted my husband who was from Venice's first marriage in 1956. Hence the Swinton last name. They were divorced in 1963. Had one daughter Pamela. Two adopted sons: Brian and Jeffrey (My husband). So it goes:
Kenneth Swinton + Venice Cheever
Jeffrey (Miller) Swinton+ Heidi Sorensen (1972)
Cameron Swinton (1976) + Kristen Ekins 1999
Daniel Swinton (1978) + Julia Leaman 2001
Jonathan Swinton (1981)
Ian Swinton (1983) -- moving to Melbourne, Australia in July 2002.
Do you have a marriage date for Kenneth and Irene Cone? I am guessing that Kenneth is a brother of Linton J. who is the father of Kenneth -- our stepfather. I am a Mormon and am very familiar with the Family History Library here and could help you. Let me know. Heidi

Re Linton Swinton

Regarding your grandfather Linton Swinton born c1891 of Brooklyn New York. Contact me on my email .
I do not have anything dierct but suggest that this Linton (b:1891) was most likely the grandson of William L(ewis?) Swinton and Mary Catherine Linton.
William L. Swinton was born April 23 1833 at Saltoun, East Lothian, Scotland and emigrated in 1843 to Montreal, Canada with his mother plus brothers and sisters.
In May 4, 1853 he married Mary Catherine Linton and they had at least 4 sons and 2 daughters all probably born in New York. The only two children I know of are Linton and Ralph Waldo Swinton (b:1858)
Possibly this Linton born c1850's was the father or your Linton. Linton did marry and had a son Kenneth Swinton who worked in the movie studios of Hollywood in the 1940-50's.
Kenneth married and was gt-grandfather of Colin Thompson who in 1999 was of Seattle, Washington.
There is a lot of information about William L. Swinton in Who's Who of Journalists etc. as he is well known. Also I have details back to his gt-grandparents and many of the surrounding descendants.
You need to contact me with an address so I can send you photocopies in need be.
regards
Gary R.R.
Thank you so much. This will help. I didn't have Polly's last name for one. Anymore info I'll take. Will try sending you on my side as I complete. Again, thanks David&Polly are buried here in Ti where I live and I have been their quite a few times and put flowers and have gone to the WOlcott cemetary also. I need to clean the stones so I can take pictures of them.

David&polly are my ggg grandparents. Edwin was my grandfather married to Emma Baldwin(lee). My mother was the baby Nieta Shirley Swinton married to Louis Napoleon French. wanda
