Any reference to a town or place name?
I have a connection to the Swishers of Ohio and would, if you please, like a scan of the page. My E-addy is below.

Many thanks.

sgtwal@aol.com

I will try to make this long story very short...my father, an avid collector, died this year and we have been sorting hundreds of items for an estate sale. I came across this today and as the family researcher could not let it out of my hands until I passed the info along. (If this were our family, I would hope someone would do the same) These are pages from a bible...not in good shape, however, mostly readible. I don't know when or where he acquired it, however, I hope that someone benefits from the info.

Family Record
Marriages

John Swisher and Christeny Goudy married December 25, 1845

Henry B Arick and Alice Swisher married Dec 23, 1891

Cyrus Yast and Inalisa(?)
There is Myrtle whose birth is given as 1-3-1887 instead of 3-1-1887, who married a Frederich A. Schnelle porbbaly in Vermillioan Co IL. He appears to have had a previous daughter with a daughter named Caroline. He may have married his wife Myrtle just after she was born.

This Myrtle died in 1966 and has Ohio and her parents birth plcae as being OH.

I thought I posted previous time about the shanty boat situation in Cincinatti. But I don't see it ....

I had a computer crash and I'll have to look back and see what it was that I thought I had found...

Paul Pettit
Swisher DNA Project Administrator
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Switzer-2

We have recently had contact with Wooddell's children, his son and his twin daughters.
Mary Allen,

Yes that Daisy does disappear in the geneaolgies of that family... her mother died in 1936, and her father left WV.

However, the good news is Daisy's father, Arthur, has a living nephew, and I know him quite well.. He is participant in the Switzer DNA Project. IF anyone knows, he will... email me directly with any further information on Daisy that married Woodell Murphy and I will see if it rings a bell with what could be her second cousin..

Don't forget to include you relationship please

Best regards

Paul Pettit
Switzer DNA Proejct Administrator
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Switzer-2

Does anyone have any records of this Daisy Swisher in WV? She married Wooddell Murphy but I can find no record of it. They could have married out of state as she may have been underage. Wooddell was born in Grafton, Taylor Co., WV. There is one Daisy there in the 1920 and 1930 census records whose mother was Nora and father was Arthur. There was a brother Berlin and a brother Glen. I am not sure if this was even the correct Daisy. Would appreciate any help.

Isaac Swisher and Ella Wiggins of Coshocton Co. Ohio

I'm looking for information on the family of Issac Swisher. With the 1890 census distroyed, I can't really confirm where he may have come from.
He married Ella around 12 December 1892 in Clay County Indiana, they had at least 2 children, then Ella was killed on New Years Eve about 1895. Isaac seems to have died by 1897, or at least the family broke up.
In the 1880s and 1890s many coal miners were being recruited from around the world and brought to Indiana,so it's possible Isaac came from somewhere else all together.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Around 1953, James Jefferson Swisher surveyed Swishers around the country. He compiled a Swisher family history from these results.

Does anyone have a copy of this document that goes beyond page 22? Mine stops at page 21. Unfortunately, this is when the history about my Swisher line starts!

Thank you,

Pete Swisher

The company began in 1861 when David Swisher a merchant out of ohio received a small cigar business in settlement of a debt.

In 1888 David's son John and brother Harry buy their fathers business.

In 1913 John buys out Harry and takes on his own sons, Carl S Swisher and Jno H Swisher and Swisher and sons is established.

In 1927 the Ohio facilities are closed as the new Jacksonville facilities become Swisher Headquarters.

in 1966 the company is sold and Swisher International inc is born.

I know that I was adopted into the family by Herbert Holcomb Swisher the second, whose father was Herbert, Holcomb Swisher. His father was Carl S. Swisher, and Carl's brother was Jon H. Swisher. Their Father was David Swisher.

Sorry this is so late. John P. Swisher was b. 2/21/1866, and d. 12/24/1901 (as far as I know). He was the s/o Jacob Swisher and Elizabeth Falls. He was the grandson of William Pegg Swisher and Elizabeth Parvin Eves. The Eves family were prominent Quakers and would have been opposed to his serving in a war. His brothers were: Frank, Fuller, and David Swisher. THanks for the info. you provided on his death. Sarah

Hello,

No, so far I've haven't been able to find the book or the author Mildred Swisher Pittman. The only copy of the book that I know of was at the public library in Champaign County, Urbana, Ohio.

Here is the link:
http://66.213.108.125/TLCScripts/interpac.dll?LabelDisplay&a...,

The librarians said that the book was lost. The only information available is that it was printed? in Oxford, PA in 1981. If you have some ideas for finding it or Ms. Pittman or her family I would be very interested.

Below is a link to my website with my family of Swishers:

http://www.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=shasta4737&am...

Sincerely,

Susan

Big Discount Swisher, Switzer, Sweitzer, and Schweitzer DNA Project
I am the Swisher/Switzer/Schweitzer etc. Surname DNA Project Administrator (volunteer) and a Switzer and Swisher Family Descendent. I receive no compensation from any DNA company.

Here is the link for the Schweitzer, Switzer & Swisher DNA Project in which I have the discounts available:

https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspxcode=Q77790&a...

Direct line male DNA 37 marker tests are knocked down from $249 to $119 among all of their many other DNA tests. This 37 marker test is the optimal test, best results for your money to use for genealogical connections. The FTDNA discount ends on Aug 31, 11:59 pm. FTDNA's discounts ususallu are $15-30 dollars. This is unique opportunaity as it seesm that tehre is a dscount war between teh companies at this time. We may not see these big discounts again or for a long time

There are several companies that also announced discounts earlier. DNa ancestry has a half price temporary discount only for ancestry.com subscribers for the only three tests it offers.

I recommend the mtDNA that measures HVR1 AND HVR2 for female line testing females of direct female lines. A male can test for both his mother's DNA which reflects, her mother's and her mother's mother on up the line. I recommend the 37-44 marker YDNA test for males ( The fewer the markers, the less reliable it is to use for genealogical purposes and the higher level tests are overkill unless you have a good genealogy going back several hundred years and you are looking to do some special lineage comparisons.

One can always upgrade later though it is more expensive to do in steps. Also FamilyTreeDNA usually has a Holiday discount Program but the discount is about half of this one. So you can prepare for a discount as a Christmas Present.

DNA is an effective tool for family research for locating unknown lines and earlier places of origin. Both male and female DNA can be effective in determining relatedness between family trees.

Several companies are offering discoutns right now some end Aug 31. The best Discounts are Ancestry.com for present Ancestry subscribers only and FTDNA is offering an unprecedented discount and multiple tests for the price of one. The discounts for male DNA testing have never been this large. If one tests with FTDNA, their results will be in the largest company database for best possibility of present and future matches. The results from this company can be manually entered into the new but very much smaller DNA database at DNA Ancestry ( Ancestry.com ).

Other companies have big discounts as well but most companies don't allow people to enter their samples of other companies into their database. So it would be wiser to do samples in one company who doesn't allow manual entry and then manually enter it into the companies that allow that.

If you have any general questions and not interested in ordering a sample with this promotion. Please email a week after the promotion ends on Aug 31 I will be tied up recruiting test for all my surnames and suspected distant related cousins.

Thanks

Paul Pettit
