Surnames: Sy Tiedemann Lee See
Hi Todd,
I have had to do some guess work with regard to the Sys but I believe this entry in the 1860 census is them:
Wisconsin, Manitowoc, Schleswig, p. 514-515
1 Sep 1860
p. 514 lines 36-40
house 1957/family 1825
Abraham Lee(sic) 48 M Farmer 600 200 Prussia
August 24 M Carpenter and joiner - 100 Prussia
William 21 M -- Prussia
Gustav 15 M -- Prussia
Charles 14 M -- Prussia
page 515
lines 1-2
August See 15 M - - Prussia
Catherine 5 F Wisconsin

As you can see the first page spells the family name "Lee" and the continuing entry on the next page goes to "See" I am not sure why there are two Augusts. The 1870 census for Manitowoc Co. lists August Sy, carpenter and joiner, as 32 so the age is a bit off but I think this is the same man as the August Sy who married my gr-gr-gr-aunt. An August Sy turned up later in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan and I have a hunch that my gr-gr-gr-aunt died fairly young. They named their one child Gustav which might have been a family name. Sorry this is so sketchy, and not much about Abraham Sy but if it helps you piece anything together, I would be interested to hear it.
Thanks,
Regan
