I have trace back to my great great great grandfather lewis fletcher sycks he was born in ohio on march 39 1845. any information would be great as my living sycks family has reduced in alarming numbers in the last 10 years. my generation has only one boy to carry on the sycks last name. I need to find my family. could you be my kin?

I don't have all of my information with me, but I'll bring it to work in the next few days. On Charles and Mary Ann Sycks side, I believe there were 6 children, 5 living and one who died in infancy. They were as follows: Ethel, Effie (my grandmother), Dorothy, Murray, and Chester, all are buried except for Dorothy in New Lexington Cemetery, Perry County, OH. Dorothy is buried in a cemetery in Newark, Licking County, OH.
Where are you located? I'm currently living in Delaware, OH and I work at Ohio State University. If you want, you can contact me directly.

On Jacob Israel Sycks and Emaline South, I've found 8 children. I have info on some of them, but loads of missing data. On your Charles Wesley, I found 4 children - is that correct?

Your line does descend from the "Six's". John Conrad Six was born in NY bet 1727-1730, his father immigrated from Prussia.

I also descend down this line - but through a different son of John Conrad.

Most definitely interested in sharing. He would have been my great-great grandfather on my dad's side of the family. His son Charles Wesley Sycks was father to my grandmother Effie Florence Sycks. I could never find out where they came from. My dad thought maybe from the Netherlands but was not really clear on that aspect. I've run into the name Six before. I do know that they came from Greene County, PA and settled in Perry County, OH. I found the graves of my great grandparents Charles and Mary Sycks. All I found was that Israel died in Perry County in 1898 or so. Have not found where he is buried, which must be on private land.

You may have found this info already, but just in case....

In my researching, "Israel" Sycks was acutally born Jacob Israel Sykes s/o Daniel Sykes and Nancy Roberts. This family descends down the line from John Conrad Six.

The "Six" was often changed - variations including Sicks, Sic, Syx, Sykes, Sycks, Sycs.

This "Six" family immigrated from Germany.

I have some info on Jacob Israel Sycks and family, but loads of missing blanks. His name was Israel Sycks married to Emaline South, David and Israel could be brothers. Do you know David's parents name. What county is Salem Township in Ohio. Israel and family settled in Perry County. Have you come across any information about where the Sycks originated from.
I am searching for Sych family members, and I am wondering if these 2 names are variations of each other? The family I am seraching for were originally from Poland, and most of the family remains there, but I am guessing there are others who emigrated. I know that many foreign surnames became anglicized upon arrival to the "new world". I would love to hear your thoughts & share ideas....

Hello to all! My grandmother is a Syck. Carl I maybe related to you as she is from Athens area also. And so far most of the ones I have turned up have been cousins of sorts. My original Sycks came from the Yorkshire area of England in the 1850 - 1860's. Feel free to email me back with any response.

Sycks Surname

Haven't found any information as to our origins of the Sycks Surname, I believe you and Cindy and myself may be related cousins of some sorts. I've
traced the family back to Greene County Pennsylvania. My grandmother Effie Sycks Park grew up in New Lexington, Ohio. I believe that her father was one of
about 10 children. There is a relative in the Barberton Ohio area also, I don't know if he is still alive. But I had contact with them several years ago.
My great grandfather was Charles Wesley Sycks, father was Israel Sycks. My dad always thought the name was Dutch, but I have no clue where he got that
information from. Have there been any Sycks reunions? If so, let me know when it is. If not maybe we should start one.

Sycks

I'm also researching the Sycks name. My grandmother, Effie Sycks Park, her father was Charles Wesley Sycks, and his father was Israel Sycks. I've
have information that the family came from Greene County, PA. We may possibly by cousins. Its hard to know where we came from originally, because the
name could have been spelled differently. My dad thought it was Dutch but I don't have any clue if that is correct. I know the family came from PA
to Hocking and Perry Counties. I've even found a relative from Delaware OH, which is where I live. I did go to Ohio University in Athens. Is there a
Sycks family reunion, if so, when is it. If not, maybe we should start one. Most of the grandparents and great parents are deceased. But I found information
in Greene County that puts the family into the 1700's. There was at one time a Sycks family cemetery in Greene County, PA, but it is no longer in
existence. You can contact me at the above email address or contact me by mail.

It is my understanding that the surname Sycks came from the surname SIX and is originally from Germany. I am a descendant of David Sycks (Six) and Ruth Gapen's daughter Hannah Sycks who married James Adams.

There is a place called Sycks Ridge in Ohio, and Sycks cemetery in the same location. It was the old homestead of David Sycks and his father Henry.

I am looking for Rachel (written Sick on the marriage records) married Thomas Bi/Burch, 13 Oct., 1837, Muskingum county, OH. Their son John's Civil War records say he was born in Somerset, OH, probably Perry co., OH. Their other son, Martin's records say he was born in Muskingum co., OH. They are next found in Marshall co., WV on the census of 1860, in the Cameron, Beeler Station- Rock Lick area. These are my GGGrandparents and also my "brickwall". Any help will be greatly appreciated. Elaine Birch Long ebl1940@yahoo.com

Hi Lori. Howard was my uncle, brother of my father Robert E. Sycks. My goal is to find the country of origin of the Sycks name. So far, although I haven't been able to track specific ancesters, I have found the name Sycks going back to England and Germany. My best guess is that the Sycks name is German, but that's still to be determined. Best wishes.

Carl K. Sycks
Sorry for the long delay in responding, but I just figured out how to send e-mail via this this medium. As I indicated in my note to Cindi, my family came from Athens, Ohio and I'm wondering from which European country they emigrated.

Cindi has information that family may have originated from England in the 1850's. I have some other vague informtion that the Sycks name is German, but no tracing of my direct family to either England or Germany.

My grandfather's name was James and he moved to Coshocton, Ohio where I was born. His sons, Howard, Carl and Robert, my father, ran Sycks Brothers Restaurant and Bakery for many years before their death. Appreciate your informtion.

We sure are related. My grandfather, James, married the sister of Florence, whose name was Nellie. She was quite a woman. They both lived in Coshocton, Ohio, where I was born, and my mother has told me about my grandmother and grandfather taking trips to Athens to visit Florence and her family.

Both James and Nellie are buried in South Lawn cemetary in Coshocton,Ohio and there are still a few Sycks family members who live there, although I no longer see much of them.

Hope this helps.

I hope you logged on to the note I sent to Cindy. It's interesting you went to Ohio University. On my mother's side of the family, my great, great aunt was the first woman to graduate from O.U. Her name was Boyd and there's a Boyd Hall named after her. Several other family members also graduated from O.U. also. Being a Miami of Ohio grad, I always felt a little sorry for those who went astray and ended up bein Bobcats, but, all and all, it's a good university.

There are still some Sycks family members in Coshocton, Ohio and my brother, Robert C. Sycks, lives in Pickerington, Ohio. I don't think there are many family reunions, but I haven't lived in Coshocton since I was about 17 years old, so I don't really know.

I'll keep you updated if I get any further information.

P.S. My father and all his brothers were all assumed to be Jewish but, to their knowledge, weren't. Seeing one of your family members was named Israel, I wonder if you know if there was any Jewish heritage.
