Looking for parents of Catherine Ruth Sikes, Sykes b. Jan 5, 1821 North Carolina. Probably in a county along the SC border.

Married Alexander Brown 1845 in Macon Co. Al. He was 55 and she was 24. Moved to Tuscaloosa Co. Al in 1850 then Choctaw Co. Al where she died in 1852 according to her obit in the Southern Christian Advocate.

The Brown family lived in Anson Co. NC, now Union Co. Please find my gedcom on rootsweb under Archibald M. Brown, died 1837 for more details.

There are living Browns from this line.

I think LDS means Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints who have a huge collection of geneological records...

Looking for details of Willam SYKES of Boston Lincs, who
came to Tasmania as a convict in early 1800's. He was born
late 1700's.

Married Elizabeth ENO, also from Boston? Lincs. She was also a convict to NSW then VDL. She was b 1799 died Tasmania 1863.

Possibly a red herring, but I have a Lavinia Sykes born 1839 parents George and Betty noted down - mainly because it wasn't the Lavinia I was looking for!

Sadly not - mine was Lavinia Fletcher, but as Lavinia Sykes kept appearing in the searches and my other Cheshire line is Sykes, the odd name made me note it just incase the two families were linked... which they weren't!

A crest will only go with the arms held by a family and the arms will be for a particular Sykes family and the lineal decendants of that family. Without knowing if your particular family has arms you won't be able to trace the crest. You will need to know if the arms were created in England, Ireland or Scotland before you can start making a search.

My great grandfather was named Charles Sykes. To the best of my knowledge he died in northern Missouri in the early 1900s. My grandfather, Clifton Sykes, lived in northern Iowa from the 40's through the 80's.

My wife is a descendant of Henry's brother Law Sykes who came over to America around 1857. They lived in Pike Twp., Clearfield County, PA. She is also a Bilger descendant but through another line. Have you been able to go back any further with George Sykes and Alice Moorhouse? I was on the wrong track for a while and had the wrong George as Law's father.

H Calvin Sykes was my great-grandfather, and was only a private with 28th NC. G company to the best of my knowledge, but no info about "captain"

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Shawn D. Sykes, 28, of Portsmouth, Va., died May 7 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds suffered from an accident that occurred May 5 at Combat Outpost Crazy Horse, Iraq. He was assigned to 215th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
