MUSCATINE, Iowa - Edward Numan Symmonds, 76, of 1517 Washington St., died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at the Muscatine Care Center.
Services will be at the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1613 Bidwell Rd. The Rev. Wade Duroe will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Mr. Symmonds was born on June 11, 1924, in Warsaw, Ill., the son of Charles F. and Ethel C. Morrow Symmonds. He married Darlene Mockmore on Nov. 14, 1942 in Canton, Missouri.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church.
He had worked as an electrician at the Eastern Iowa Power Company and the Central Iowa Power Cooperation for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Symmonds of Muscatine; two sons, David Edward Symmonds of Muscatine, and Michael Howard Symmonds of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Theda Ruth Kepke of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sharon Kay Roberts, of Des Moines, and Deborah Lynne Suman of Muscatine; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and one brother, Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; six brothers; and one granddaughter.
