Looking for information on Viola Sypher who was born December 28 1907 in Ontario and "abducted" from Georgina Township on her way home from school by her mother in 1918. She was at that time a ward of my great-grandparents and had lived with them for a year and a half. She was sent to live with them around the same time that her parents separated.
I see by her grave in Croswell, Sanilac County, Michigan that she died in 1945 or 1975 and was married to Wesley Hastings (they married in 1924 in Michigan).
I am not looking for documents, as I have Ancestry and the internet too. I am looking for anyone that knows of this 'abduction' and how it all unfolded. I only find one newspaper article about it in Ontario.
Her younger sister appears to have remained in Ontario.
Viola's parents were Charles Oscar Sypher and Jennie Cryderman. Jennie was living in Windsor, Ontario and sent a letter to Charles threatening the abduction. Despite strict supervision, she was taken.
I am posting this message to the Sypher, Ontario, and Sanilac (Michigan) message boards.
thanks so much,
-Melissa D. Matt
