In 1930 there are three Berthas that fit your description. All are born around 1886, immigrated in 1907 from norway with both parents born in norway:
Bertha Johnson married to John Johnson immigrated 1904
Bertha Knudson married to Anders Knudson immigrated 1910
Bertha Peterson listed as married, but living with widow Emily Peterson with the relationship "cook".

Maybe one of those three is the one you seek. I tried to go back to the 1910 census and eliminate any of the three by establishing who they were in 1910, but was unable to do so. Perhaps looking more closely at the three addresses where they lived may help.

Good luck...Ryan

I am looking for information on Oliver Syverson, born 1912 and died 1987 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His wife was Margaret Richmond, born 1922 (I think in Saskatchewan, Canada)and died 1986 in Calgary. I think they had 2 children - Allan and Peggy. Allan may still live in the Calgary area.
The P Syverson could possibly be my great grandfather, Peter Syverson, as I recognize the name Halvor Moe also. Both would have been from the Douglas county area ( Brandon, Garfield, etc) and possibly Moe Township. The dates and ages would be close. Do you have a copy of the picture that you could e-mail to me. If you are interested, I could do a little research.

I also have an Ole Syverson/Sjursen in my ancestry. It is believed that he was born in 1821 and emigrated to the US in 1870. His children include Sophie, Tobias (female), Caroline, Ella and Severt/Syvert. Many of his children settled in South Dakota for a good portion of their lifes.
Do you have any of these names in your lineage?

The Andrew is a no-go - our Andrew lived on the home farm near Rising Sun, Wisconsin, his whole life - and his twin brother died at birth. However, do you know anything about your Andrew's father??? There is one brother, Peter, that came from Norway with the rest of the family, shows up in the 1870 census and then is gone. I've been looking for him for a long time!! He was born in 1851 in Laerdal, Norway. One of the sisters ended up married and homesteaded in Minnesota so it is possible Peter ended up in Iowa.

My great grandpa, his son was born in 1820 and then his son, my grandfather, 1860. So there are a few years there that are missing. Although there are some names in there that are the same, that's just the way of it. So hard to find the right people when they never kept their last names for whatever reason they had at the times. Thank you for your input though and good luck in your continued search.
SYVERSON OR SEVERSON

I am starting to research my husbands family. His grandfather was Nels Severson, son of Ole Severson, son of Peter Syverson. Peter, his wife, and son Ole came from Norway to southwestern Wisconsin - part of the family stayed in the Rising Sun area while others moved west. Some of the names include Andrew (who had a twin) Martha, John, Peter, Anna, Bertha, Sophie, and Ole. We think the name change from Sy to Se came about with Ole - who served in the Civil War. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sally Severson

I am interested in gathering more information about your family.

The best that I can tell you is that the family came from a farm that is near the present day town of Lillihammer.
SYVERSON Family Photograph

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Halvor MOE, P. SYVERSON, John RUSTAD, and Ole PLADSON which was taken at the Hankkurp Studio in Bemidji, Minnesota. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with the gentlemen in the photographs appearing to range in age from 20-60.

Based on limited research I one of the men may be Ole PLADSEN b. 19 Nov 1882 and d. April 1967 at Pinewood, MN. I was hoping to locate someone from one or more of these families so that it could be returned to family, however, I was not successful so I have passed the photograph along to the Minnesota Genealogical Society in hopes that they might have better luck. If you are a member of on of these families or know someone who might be, please contact them.

Thank you,
Shelley

I have some information about a Syverson who married a Giere (sometimes spelled Gire). They came from Hallingdal, Norway, and many of their descendants seem to have lived in Minnesota. Olmsted County and Rock Dell Township, especially.

This Carl Olaves Syverson married Guri (or Julia) Nilsdtr Giere in 1857, I think in Norway before emigration to the US. They had three children that I know of (Louise, Ole, and Gustav).

Louise married an Amundson; Gustav married a woman named Halvorson. Each of these marriages had children; I believe Ole, who died in Olmsted County in 1937, was unmarried.

I have names and birthyears of some of the children, but there are a lot of unanswered questions. Can we share?

Paul Nelson
pnels@att.net

They were close relatives of my 2nd great Grandmother Amanda Syverson Hunter.

Re: Attention Valerie information about the Syversons

Hello Valerie,
I'm very new to genealogical research - I've just discovered that my great great grandmother was Amanda Syverson Hunter (married to Thomas Hunter of Crawford County, Wisconsin in 1880.) Thomas and Amanda were my great grandmother, Elizabeth Hunters, parents. I've learned that Elizabeth married Henry Atchison, from Stutsman County, ND in 1898 or 99. The Atchisons stopped in Crawford County, Wisconsin from Ontario, on their way to homesteading in Stutsman, ND.

My grandfather, Clarence Atchison Walker was the only child of Elizabeth Hunter and William Henry Atchison. They were divorced sometime in 1901 or 02. My grandmother, Elizabeth remarried Frank Walker around the same time and had several more children. My grandfather, Clarence, took his last name.
I hope this information helps:

/Suet SYVERSON b: 15 JUL 1819 d: 3 MAR 1885
Amanda SYVERSON b: 1857
| /Francis POSEY b: ABT 1740
| /Benjamin POSEY b: ABT 1780 d: ABT 1827
| | \Milly ?
| /William David POSEY , Sr. b: ABT 1796 d: ABT 1845
| | \Mary ?
\Elizabeth POSEY b: 7 MAY 1827 d: 17 FEB 1909
| /William HINLEY
\Elizabeth HENLEY b: FEB 1794 d: 30 MAR 1888
The Posey line of the Syversons can be traced back to the 1400's in France.
I just found some old records yesterday while I was looking for my mother and fathers marriage certificate in her house. So I started looking up the Syverson's because that is the part of the family tree I have been missing. My grandmother, Inga (Syverson) Sevik, was the sister of Emma (Syverson) Naze. I used to visit them often in Montpelier, N.D. when I was a kid. The records that I found came from Ola Skogstad of Norway in 1980. Of course, she just filed it away and never mentioned it to anyone. Please feel free to contact me for this additional information.

I am searching for information of my grand grand father John Syversen. He immigrated from Vågå in Norway round 1882. He has been several places in the states, but he was a farmer with his own farm, probably in Wisconsin. In the 1900 census for Norway he has returned to Norway, living at his brothers farm together with his father in Vågå. A remark in the 1900 census “living from earned fortune”. By 1900 he is an American citizen. After returning to Vågå he took the name Jo Lillebråten. He stayed in USA for 13,5 years. We do not know exactly when he left or when he came back to Norway.
