Hi,
I am looking for some marriage information. Helen Duda married a man who's last name was Szewczyk. They either lived in Chicago or somewhere near there in Illinois or they lived in Indiana. They had one daughter named Mary Joan. If you have any information please contact me. Szewczyk is not the family I am looking into but I'm kind of stuck on information on my maternal grandmother's family so I'm looking for a jumping off point.

Thanks in advance.

SZEWCZYK ZEGLER ZEGLEN Mahanoy City PA / Ludlow MA

Have reviewed the postings for SZEWCZYK and having not found any connections I've started a new thread.

Searching for ancestors of Antonia Mary SZEWCZYK. She was born in Galicia / Austria 22 Feb 1872.

Her first marriage (in Europe) was to Michael Dziechciowski (or a variant thereof). They had at least one child: Ursula.

Not certain of when Antonia Mary SZEWCZYK arrived in the states. She was in Mahanoy City PA from 1900 through 1919. The family moved to western Massachusetts (Ludlow and Springfield) prior to the 1920 census. Never remarrying Antonia passed away 27 Jun 1957.

Antonia Mary SZEWCZYK's second husband was Lewis Jacob Zeigler (more likely Zeglen). Married in 1900 in Mahanoy City. Marriage license indicates her first husband was deceased. We know little about Lewis Zeigler / Zeglen; he likely died in 1907.

Antonia had a son John Zeigler (1897-1948). Although John had Lewis's surname we are uncertain if Lewis was his father or possibly was fathered by her first husband. Antonia and Lewis had four daughters before Lewis's death: Mary (1901-1994), Anna (1903-2002), Helen Rose (1905-2000) and Julia (1907-1976)

Antonia's daughter Ursula immigrated to Mahanoy City PA in 1910 to help her mother with the family and later married John HUDYKA. The Hudyka's also moved to western Massachusetts.

Although I have not found any other direct links to SZEWCZYK relatives I did notice a number of others with that name in the late 1800's and early 1900's in Schuylkill County PA and also in the Springfield MA / Hampden County area ca 1920's. Would be interested in both any connections back to Austria / Poland as well as whether any of the generations in the US have connections to Antonia Mary (sometimes also called Antoinette or just Mary).
I do not know if there is any relation or not but my Great-Grandfather was a Jakub Szewczyk (Jacob Sheftick) who was born in Wieruszyce in 1872. He immigrated to Chicago in 1906 and was living in Lincoln, IL by 1910. He was a miner in the coal mines there.

I know he had a cousin in Chicago but I do not know if there is any other family. Wieruszyce was not very large, I believe. All his paperwork seems to have been done in Bochnia which was N of Wieruszyce and East of Krakow.

-Mark Sheftick

I believe we are searching for the same families! I am from the line of Anna's 1st husband, before Joseph Szewczyk. Anna had a stepson Stanley, and I'm told Anna & Joe had a son Walter that lived in Butler, PA., and then Berkley, WVA. There were 3 brothers that I know of - John, Joseph & Mike Szewczyk, all of Cochranton area, I believe. They were from Poland. Joe was a boiler maker. John was a farmer. Was the farm located on Marsh Rd, off of Rte. 285? That is were Anna lived After she married John, Joe's brother and they had a son Frank of Meadville. Anna had 3 children to her 1st marriage a daughter ( my grandmother) and 2 sons, 1 killed in WWII. Is any of this familiar to you? If so I do have a bit more information I would be glad to share.

Veronica

My gr-mother was Rozalja (Rose) Szewczyk, father Andrew Szewczyk. Also related to Rapsky of the same area. If you have any connection, please let me know. Thanks, Barb

Hello Cindy! My g-grandma Anna (I have 3 last names for her- Wronak, Bruner,& Veronia)of Austria or Poland, was married to two of the Shesky's (Joseph then John). She was married before the Shesky's, to a Michael Zadorozny. Both Anna and her 1st husband have been very difficult to find any information on. I have copies of Joseph, John and Anna's marriage license. That's where I found Kyton and Katherine's, the 3 boys parents. I'll keep in touch.

Veronica

Hello Cindy! My G-Grandfather is Michael Zadorozny. He died about 1923. My G-Grandmother then applied for a marriage license with Joseph Szewczyk, but the court house personnel said it was never legalized (unless they married in another county?). Joseph died Feb. 4, 1928. Then my G-Grandmother married John-Joseph's older brother Nov. 26, 1929. I have the marriage licenses of both brothers to Anna my G-Grandmother. They had children together, but at this time I don't know which children belong to the Shesky brother's. I am working on that, and when I get more info. I'll let you know what I find. This side of my family is difficult to find info. on. There's a few conflicting dates and Maiden names. I'm hoping we have a connection somewhere. Talk to you again.

Veronica

Hi Pam!

Is your Joseph from Saegertown, Crawford Co., PA? I know there is a Joe from that area, I don't know anything more on him. The Szewczyk/Shesky's I'm searching for are from Cochranton, Fairfield Twp., Crawford Co., PA. Yours and mine may be related. The Joseph I have applied for a marriage license with my Great grandmother Anna Zadorozny (previous married name) in 1925. She then married John of Cochranton, in 1929, and the marriage license states that previous relationship was by marriage and that Joe Szewzczyk died 4 Feb. 1928. On John's Social Security application it states born 18 Sept. 1880, his birth place as Pilzno, Lipiny, Poland and his father as Kayeton Szewczyk. Is this John and Joe part of your family records? I don't have much on them. The John Szewczyk farm is still lived in (don't know by whom) in Cochranton, PA.

Veronica

I am looking for information about my grandparents, Andrew Zdebski and Anna Szewczyk and her sister Katherine (Katarzyna?). I have a copy of a letter that was sent to my mother in 1982 from a cousin katarzyna Rozpondek from Zarow. She said her cousin Stach Zzewezyk of Wieruszyce gave her my mom's address so she could write to her. The letter states that Tomasz Szewczyk is a brother to my grandmother and great aunt. I think my grandfather's Austrian passport said he was from Krakow..at least that's where we consider he and my grandmother as having been from. I know my grandfather played violin and used to walk by my grandmother's house. My grandfather married my grandmother in Lincoln Illinois and his brother whose name I can't think of (he died when I was very young) married my mother's sister Katherine. They later bought land from the railroad and moved from Illinois to Baldwin, Michigan sometime before 1926.
Any information about my grandparents would be appreciated.

His name was Joe Rapsky and his wifes name was Eleanore. They are both currently alive but I have not spoke with them in over a year. My grandfather also had 9 other brothers and sisters.
Hi, I wish we were related, but probably are not. My grandfather, John Szewczyk/Schefcick left Galicia, Poland in 1893 and settled in Nance County, Nebraska. He married Mary Knopik and after about 10 or 15 years moved to Columbus, Platte County and lived there the rest of his life. The problem is that the Szewczyk name is fairly common. Most of these families changed their name to something "easier"; in my family it was Schefcick. Even so, it was not easy to have this as my maiden name for the first quarter of my life. Do you have more information?

I am running into brick walls looking for Szewczyks who settled in Everson Pa. My gr-mother was Rozalja (Rose) Szewczyk came to the US in 1905 and went to Everson PA. I need to find some family there in PA; all I know is that she came to Chicago and married Martin Godlewski (I don't know how she met him; maybe a family friend). She came to Chicago with her sister Antionette. She married Martin in 1907 and died in 1953. Antionette married Frank Koszyk. Anyone who might have even a shread of connection, please contact me. I am trying to get some family tree together for a reunion and really need your help. Thanks in advance. Barbara

Hi!
Do you have any more information on where/when in NJ they lived? My Szewczyks located to Elizabeth. My gr-grandfather was Stanislaw Szewczyk. His father was Jozef Szewczyk from Lutcza, Galicia, Poland. Stanislaw was born abt 1873. We only know of one brother right now. His name was Wojciech, born 1867. He married a woman named Maria Pitera. My Stanislaw married Antonina Herbut. Stanislaw and Antonina came over in 1902. Check alternate spellings on Ellis Island. Their records also have a sister, Agatha, spelled 'Szewozyk'. And my family is spelled 'Szewzyk' on those same records. They went to a cousin's house in Elizabeth. The cousin was 'Janos Woicich' (also spelled various ways). I have not really been able to locate this cousin on the census but have discovered that the family is related to the Janusz family in Poland, so maybe the name is just messed up. When they came over, they were also accompanied by Josef and Sofia Marczak (a married couple) who were also going to that same house. I assume Sofia was a sister of my Stanislaw.
There also seems to be a brother named Kazimir Szewczyk. He is the godfather to my grandmother's sister in Elizabeth.
My e-mail is lydk19@yahoo.com
Good luck!
Lydia
