Antoni Szewczyk (b 1869) and Maryanna Stanik are my wife's maternal great-grandparents. Their daughter Magdalena Szewczyk (b 19 jun 1894) married John Kopchia (b: 03 Jul 1891); their daughter Bernice Kopchia (b: 29 Apr 1928) married Norbert Michalowicz (b: 20 Feb 1925).

Hi, Barb, thanks for your reply. I guess the name Szewczyk (shoemaker) is more common than I thought. My other surname, Krawiec (tailor) is pretty common, too! Claudia

Hi Claudia, I see on a map your location, I believe that you are in Podkarpacki Province.

My gr-mother came from Malapolski Province, very close to Nowy Targ.

Hi Claudia,

Yes, my grandmother was born about 1885 in Maniowy and lived in Sieniawa when she came to the US in 1905. Maniowy is also in S.E. Poland. Her father was Andrej and mother Regina.

Hi Barb, I visited Lukawica, Lesko, s.e. Poland in 2008. My great great grandmother was Anna Szewcryk, born abt 1843, married to Jan Chudoba. Daughter was Eufrozyna Chudoba, married Tomasz Krawiec. My grandfather Oleksa K came to Butler, Lyndora, PA. Do you know where your Szewczyk family is from?

Hi, I visited Lukawica near Lesko and Sanok, s.e. Poland in 2008. In Lesko archives was marriage of Anna Szewcryk to Jan Chudoba and birth of child Eufrozyna Chudoba 1865. I don't know who Anna's parents were. My other Karlicki relatives settled in Mahanoy City, PA also.

Hi,
I am looking for some marriage information. Helen Duda married a man who's last name was Szewczyk. They either lived in Chicago or somewhere near there in Illinois or they lived in Indiana. They had one daughter named Mary Joan. If you have any information please contact me. Szewczyk is not the family I am looking into but I'm kind of stuck on information on my maternal grandmother's family so I'm looking for a jumping off point.

Have reviewed the postings for SZEWCZYK and having not found any connections I've started a new thread.

Searching for ancestors of Antonia Mary SZEWCZYK. She was born in Galicia / Austria 22 Feb 1872.

Her first marriage (in Europe) was to Michael Dziechciowski (or a variant thereof). They had at least one child: Ursula.

Not certain of when Antonia Mary SZEWCZYK arrived in the states. She was in Mahanoy City PA from 1900 through 1919. The family moved to western Massachusetts (Ludlow and Springfield) prior to the 1920 census. Never remarrying Antonia passed away 27 Jun 1957.

Antonia Mary SZEWCZYK's second husband was Lewis Jacob Zeigler (more likely Zeglen). Married in 1900 in Mahanoy City. Marriage license indicates her first husband was deceased. We know little about Lewis Zeigler / Zeglen; he likely died in 1907.

Antonia had a son John Zeigler (1897-1948). Although John had Lewis's surname we are uncertain if Lewis was his father or possibly was fathered by her first husband. Antonia and Lewis had four daughters before Lewis's death: Mary (1901-1994), Anna (1903-2002), Helen Rose (1905-2000) and Julia (1907-1976)

Antonia's daughter Ursula immigrated to Mahanoy City PA in 1910 to help her mother with the family and later married John HUDYKA. The Hudyka's also moved to western Massachusetts.

Although I have not found any other direct links to SZEWCZYK relatives I did notice a number of others with that name in the late 1800's and early 1900's in Schuylkill County PA and also in the Springfield MA / Hampden County area ca 1920's. Would be interested in both any connections back to Austria / Poland as well as whether any of the generations in the US have connections to Antonia Mary (sometimes also called Antoinette or just Mary).

my name is piotr shefchick my grandad (roman szewczyk) came over to england at the end of the ww2 he got married to a joyce ward and they changed there name into the english way of szewczyk to shefchick,
all i no is that he had a brother who died young and woz called piotr and he had a uncle call josef sevcik and a cousin called anna libushka if u know of anything plz send me an email

I do not know if there is any relation or not but my Great-Grandfather was a Jakub Szewczyk (Jacob Sheftick) who was born in Wieruszyce in 1872. He immigrated to Chicago in 1906 and was living in Lincoln, IL by 1910. He was a miner in the coal mines there.

I know he had a cousin in Chicago but I do not know if there is any other family. Wieruszyce was not very large, I believe. All his paperwork seems to have been done in Bochnia which was N of Wieruszyce and East of Krakow.

My Grandmother's maiden name is Katarina Szewczuk and she married Michael Bohack in about 1908/09. She arrived at Ellis Island on November 1, 1912. I know little about her and am desperately looking for info. Any help would be appreciated. I may be reached at Mellin3183@aol.com

I believe we are searching for the same families! I am from the line of Anna's 1st husband, before Joseph Szewczyk. Anna had a stepson Stanley, and I'm told Anna & Joe had a son Walter that lived in Butler, PA., and then Berkley, WVA. There were 3 brothers that I know of - John, Joseph & Mike Szewczyk, all of Cochranton area, I believe. They were from Poland. Joe was a boiler maker. John was a farmer. Was the farm located on Marsh Rd, off of Rte. 285? That is were Anna lived After she married John, Joe's brother and they had a son Frank of Meadville. Anna had 3 children to her 1st marriage a daughter ( my grandmother) and 2 sons, 1 killed in WWII. Is any of this familiar to you? If so I do have a bit more information I would be glad to share.

I am still looking for any info on Rozalia Szewczyk born in Maniowy Poland in 1887. Sister, Antionette, possible half brothers, Frank and Joseph Rapsky/Rapski. Parents, possibly Andrew Szewczyk and Regina Szewczyk. Came to US in 1905 and settled in Chicago.

Hi Stanley, all my Szewczyks came from Poland to the Pennsylvania area coal mines. I don't know of a Katarzyna but then again I do not know many of my relatives. My gr-mother was Rozalja (Rose) Szewczyk, father Andrew Szewczyk. Also related to Rapsky of the same area. If you have any connection, please let me know. Thanks, Barb

I have a grandmother, rose scewczyk, born in novetan? poland in 1889. lived in south side of chicago, stockyards, till her death in 1953. she married marcin godlewski in 1907 and had 10 children. do you think that her and joseph might be related??

Hi Judy, just read your message and was wondering if you know who your great grandparents were. My gr-mother was a Szewczyk, her mother, my great grandmother and father were Regina and Andrew Szewczyk. She was born in Maniowy Poland and came to the US in 1905 going to PA and then marrying my gr-father, Marcin Godlewski and living all her life in Chicago. I don't know much about her siblings except for one, she had a sister Antionette who also came to the US and lived in Chicago. Would love to exchange info if you think there is a relation.
