Are you a Szmutko? My family knew Szmutko family and I recall going to elementary school with a Szmutko at Garfield Elementary in East chicago. I still have relatives in EC , my brother lives in Cedar Lake, IN . my wife's brother worked in Burns Harbor, his name Chuck Fliter.

My family was also from Nagykapos and they immigrated to East Chicago, Indiana. After many hard months of research we were able to locate living relatives. Let me know if you have any questions.

my great-grandfather was also a Janos Szidor. He was also from Nagy Kapos, Hungary...he immigrated through Ellis Island. He first lived in PA, then moved to Akron Ohio where he lived most of his life.

My g/grandparents, Janos & Elizabeth (TOTH) ASZMONGYA were from Nagy Kapos, Hungary. They came to Gary, IN in the early 1900's via Homestead, PA.

No, at this time the only thing we know is that they were from Nagy Kapos. Some of the ASZMONGYA family lived there until at least 1889; maybe other members were there longer.

What time frame did your relatives live there?

Ken , just dawned on me. My Grandmother . Julia Bocskoras , remarried to Joseph Somogyi. Have you come across any references to the spelling in your family search??

My Father left early 1920. I still should have distant relatives still there. Do you have any idea of ways to contact city officials there?

Do you have any addresses or contacts in Nagy Kapos?? Your relatives must have been town folk to my family and my dad , who came from Hungary.

Looking for my relations. My father was born in Nagy Kapos , Hungary in 1898 ,died 1978 in East Chicago , Indiana. Immigrated to USA in 1921. Anyone else with relatives from Hungary near the Ukranian border?
