Daphne May Addel Taber
November 30, 1915 - April 5, 2009
Daphne May Addel Taber passed away Sunday,
April 5th, at Hospice House in Bend. Daphne was
born November 30th, 1915, in Queenstown, New
Zealand to Giles and Blanche Marsh. As a young
child, she moved with her parents to Shanghai,
China where she spent her youth. She met and
married her husband, Ashley Taber, in Shanghai
in June of 1936 while he was stationed in China
with the U.S. Marine Corps. They remained
in China after Ashley was discharged from
the Marine Corp where he became a Shanghai
Municipal Policeman. When Mainland China was
being invaded by the Japanese, Daphne and Ash
moved to Oregon where Ash was from. They had
many fond memories of their new life together on
Odell Lake, living on the Willamette Pass where they made lifelong friends. Ash
became an Oregon State Policeman working out of the Oakridge/Eugene area
and later worked for the Oregon Highway Department on the Willamette Pass.
Daphne would ride along with Ash at night and fall asleep in the truck while
he was plowing snow on the Pass, just one of her many precious memories.
They eventually settled in the Crescent/Bend area and Daphne enjoyed her role
as a stay-a-home-mom to two daughters, Heather Pruden and Blanche Taber
of Bend, who survive. She also leaves behind three grandchildren whom she
adored, Jason Pruden of Portland, Kyle Taber and Laura Harrell of Bend,
and two great-grandchildren, Lilieana Pruden and Gavin Taber. She loved the
Oregon Coast, especially the Bandon area. Daphne was preceded in death by
her love, Ashley Taber, brothers, Mervyn and Giles, and sister, Marjorie. Our
hearts ache with missing her but have comfort in knowing she is at long last
together again with Ash.
“If there is any life when death is over
These tawny beaches will know much of me
I shall come back as constant and as changeful
As the unchanging many coloured sea.
If life was small and has made me scornful, forgive me
I shall straighten like a fl ame
In the great calm of death and if you want me
Stand on seaward dunes and call my name”
A family celebration of Daphne and Ashley’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of fl owers, contributions may be made in their names to Partners
