Re: Looking for Tabors in Wyoming Co. WV

Hello,
I have some information about Robert L Tabor and his family. They are not related to me (as far as I can tell) but I have been researching the Tabors in VA and WV for over 40 years and so have pursued and collected info on different Tabors as I have found them. You are correct that Cynthia Jane was not a Toler. She was a Mullins. She and Robert married in 1889 in Wyoming County, WV. I have attached their marriage record. I also have Robert's death cert and few other things.
Email me directly at taborbusiness@sbcglobal.net and I will share more.
All my best,
Michael Tabor
Hartford City, IN 47348
Lemuel Tabor's birth date 22 Apr 1827 and was born in New York. Probably Bangor, Franklin County, New York. Lemuel's father was Luther Tabor b. 17 Apr 1787 and his third wife Hannah Gitchel. Luther and Hannah were both born in Vermont. Luther had wives Mary Bishop (#1 wife) and Sally Dustin (#2 wife). There were children from each marriage. The places I know the family lived are Grand Isle, VT, Bangor, N.Y., DeWitt, MIchigan and Shiocten/Bovina/Appleton area, Wisconsin and other counties. Frank died in Wisconsin. In the 1860 US Census Frank was three living with parents and grandparents in DeWitt, MI. Maybe this will give you another direction to check out. Happy Hunting!!!
Janet

Frederick TABOR and Abbie TUTHILL 1905 NY

This is one of the articles now available online in the Library of Congress collection of old newspapers. http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn85038615/1905-10-27...

I am not related to these people, but I thought it was interesting, especially the fashion comment. The marriage seems real enough, as Frederick and Abbie are listed in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, with Russell nearby.

The Times Dispatch
Richmond, Virginia
October 27, 1905 (page 1, column 5)

ONE-LEGGED, HE WON LOVE RACE FROM SON
Father Secretly Courted and Wed 14-Year-Old Bride His Own Boy Sought.
(Special to The Times-Dispatch.)
GREENPORT, L.I., October 26. -- Frederick Tabor is about forty years old, and one-legged. But he easily beat his son, Russell, sixteen years old and two-legged, in the race for Abbie Tuthill's young affections.
Mrs. Frederick Tabor, who used to be Abbie Tuthill, is fourteen years of age, and two weeks ago she wore dresses up to her ankles and went regularly to the grammar school in Orient.
Russell Tabor is so angry because he has a stepmother instead of a sweetheart that he has left his home, and [is] now weighing sugar in a grocery store.
Russell has a sister, Hazel, fifteen years old, and she has declared she would leave home if her father brought there a mamma a year younger than she is. Frederick Tabor and his bride returned to his home yesterday.
Frederick Tabor, who is a truck farmer, and twice a widower, has four children. Mrs. Tuthill, a widow, has nine children. So when Tabor began to visit Mrs. Tuthill's house everybody said he was courting her. Besides, Russell and
Abbie kept company up to that time. Last week the elder Tabor asked the Rev. William C. McKnight, pastor of the Presbyterian church here, to marry him to Abbie. The pastor said he would if Mrs. Tuthill consented, and she did.
The school trustees at Orient are great on compulsory education, and maybe Mrs. Tabor will have to go to school until she is sixteen.

Book on Tabor Fork of Wayne County, WV

My name is Michael Tabor. I have recently finished a book titled "Sunset on Tabor Fork" which is the story of the Right Fork of Camp Creek near East Lynn in Wayne County, West Virginia. Today this is the location of the Rockspring Mine but no one has lived in that valley for over 30 years.
I have seen your note.
Our business in Leadenhall Market was established in 1790 by John Joseph Tabor (my great great grandfather) who set up business as a wholesale and retail fishmonger which he carried on for 60 years until his death. The business was carried on by his 2 sons Charles and Henry.
I knew Eric Tabor of Tabors of Billingsgate who must have been a distant cousin. I am interested in contacting anyone bearing the name of Tabor.

Hi I have just starting to research family history. I am an Auston, descended at some point in Essex from Tabor. My Grandfather's names was Alfred Tabor Auston, born in/near Brightlingsea in Essex, UK in 1891/1892. Does anyone have any info on how we got from Tabor to Auston?

tabor family

My grandfather george henry peggs was connected to your family and his father before him(also a george peggs) first cousins I think. Both georges used to manage the oyster/fishery business of the tabors in brightlingsea. My grandfather died in the early 60's and his daughter(my mother) died in the 80's. I emigrated to australia in 1963 and have visited brightlingsea many times since. I often wondered what had become of many of the tabors as i met many of them during my childhood in brightlingsea. I remember eric in particular as he used to visit us from time ti time and my granfather used to attend meetings in london with him. i also remember his son(?brother) who was in the fleet air arm during the war. All this is many years ago and they have all passed on by now(I am 77!)but i should welcome any news of the family that we were closly connected with over the years. I remember my grandfather worked in the oyster business when he left school at aged 15 and i have his indentures to serve his master William Peggs(an uncle?) dated 1888. Grandfather worked for the firm wuntil he retired at aged 75 - 60 years! He died when he was 88.

Hello,

I am a Tabor descendant too, and would like to be included, if possible, on emails and also see the research done so far. This has not been an easy family to document.

I descend from Philip Tabor (c1604-c1678) and wife Lydia Masters (c1605-c1645), and their daughter Lydia Tabor (1648-1720) who married Rev. Pardon Tillinghast.

There are many more records available on the Tillinghast family, so would like any information on the Tabor, Masters, Maltwood, Cox & Thompson side.

Thanks,

Robert Awalt in San Diego
spaniels2006@hotmail.com

Brian - I have a Philip Tabor born September 01, 1604, in Stovall, Essex, England. He died December 11, 1669 in Tiverton, RI.
He had two marriages - He married Lydia Masters, who was born either 1605 or 1615 in England. They were married before December 21, 1639 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Mass. Lydia also died in Tiverton, RI.
Philip's second wife, Jane Latham, who was born May 21, 1619 or 1629 in Elstow, Bedfordshire/Aldenham, Herdfordshire, England. Supposedly, they were married about 1669, not too long before Philip died. Jane died about April 27, 1682. I hope this helps. ~ Jill
