Kesiah Tackett

My ancestor is Sarah Jane Townsend born 1 Nov 1766 Augusta Co., VA. She died 11 Aug 1866 Overton Co, TN.

Sarah Jane Townsend married Col. Stephen Calvin Copeland in 1782 in either TN/NC or VA. I have everything documented in Overton Co., TN, her children and information on Col. Stephen Copeland. I have his partents, etc., but
just cannot find the parents of Sarah Jane Townsend.

Some people have said her parents are John Joseph Townsend b. 1735 VA ; d. 29 Oct 1787 Augusta Co., VA and Kesiah Tackett b. abt. 1782 ??; d. ?? But no documentation.

If someone on this Tackett group could give me information on a Kesiah Tackett it would be apprciated. I have been told her father is a Lewis Tackett.

Carole Lannom
clannom@fuse.net

S.R. and Minnie Mae were very gracious to me in their home. I will have to tell you a personal story about one of our visits when we email. As I said, Minnie Mae could have been a twin to my aunt Ola; even her voice was the same. If you will give me your email address, I will send what I have, including a picture of Charlotte's grave. Stephenville is 65 SW of Ft. Worth on US 377, and Dublin is 10 miles SW of there. I live about halfway between the two, about a 3.5 hr. drive from San Antonio. I still go there for band director conventions, although I retired 3 years ago.
Jim

I have the names of a couple of the children. I found where Robert died in South Dakota. I don't know if Ocie and Robert were divorced or not. He was also married to Lila Mae Horton. If anyone has any information on Ocie or her family I would like to hear from you. I am from Ohio

Thank you too, for your prompt response. Evidently your GWT and mine are two different people. You show yours b 1789, I show mine 1780. You show yours d 1831. Mine was enumerated in the 1850 US Fed. Census, living in Washington County, Indiana with Sarah (Unknown). No, I haven't read the book you mention, but will try to find it in our Library and bring myself up to date on that end of the family. I am satisfied we all decended from Lewis TACKETT, or TACQUETTE. It is just a matter of finding the right connections. If and when that is accomplished, I would love to receive the pictures you have. Good luck in your search for parents of Lewis TACQUETTE. Let me know what you find.

Dear SSSully1
It is very likely we are of the same linage. My GGGrandfather was, George Washington TACKETT. He immigrated to Indiana from Lawrence County, Ohio. Apparently he married several times and fathered children with several wives. From what information I have been able to gather, he first married, Rebecca JACKSON, in Virginia, Abt 1809. She Born Abt 1790 in Virginia. A son, Jeremiah TACKETT was born of this marriage abt 1823.

There are many George W Tackett's of record and much of the information I have found, most certainly belong to others by the same name.

My GGGrandfather, George Washington TACKETT did father the following children: Amaziah TACKETT, born about 1817, Clarinda TACKETT, born 7 Aug 1823 in Ohio, Green or Greenbury TACKETT (my GGrandfather), born 9 Mar 1827 in Lawrence County, Ohio, Julia Ann TACKETT, born 12 Sep 1830 in Floyd County, Kentucky, Lucinda C. TACKETT, born 27 May 1833, in Ohio and David TACKETT, BORN Abt 1839 in Ohio. Floys County, Kentucky is located near Lawrence County, Ohio, which could explain why some of his children were born in Ohio and others were born in Kentucky.

I have more on the decendants of, George Washington TACKETT, if it would be of any help to you, and if you can add to the information I have, it would be welcome.

Sincerely,

tomtac

Jim, small world -- you visited with my parents!! They are both deceased (1996 and 1997) but I have all of their genealogy papers and photos. I will send group sheets and photos when I get home this evening. They may be duplicates of what you have, but I'd rather you have two of a photo than none at all.

My mother was Minnie Mae Simmons, her mother was Minnie Edna Stovall, and her mother was Laura May Patterson.

My dad was the genealogist for both his and my mother's families. I do have the names of Frances' two children by Vowell. I would like to see the info you have on them and also William and Charlotte.

I haven't dabbled in genealogy for a few months and it's always exciting to get a contact out of the blue to get me interested in it again!

Where are Dublin and Stephenville?

Thanks for any info you want to send me.

Elaine
Thanks for your info; all appreciated. I show G W Tackett 1789/1831 or 39 married to Lila Jane Senters(Centers)this was written in our family Bible. Their son Robert Tackett 1815-1880 living in Elliot, Ky married to Cynthia Anna Williams 1824-1897. Their son John Preston Tackett 1851-1932, was my Grandmothers Dad, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Riggs 1854-1910. My Grandmother was Emma Ardella Tackett 18889-1982 married to Levi Dickison. I show GW born in VA and the rest in KY except one wife CAW born in TN. I have more infomation and pictures to share if this is part of your lineage too. I got alot of data from Googling "Tackett", wish the association was still intact. The family did seem to stay around the KY, VA, OH area and I show a group to Indiana. Have you seen the book Lewis Tackett-Pioneer Early Days in Virginia, written by Norval Jack Dudley a descendant of Lewis Tackett? His side went to Indiana near Bloomington.

Frances Tackett m Elias Jackson: sons Marcellus and Romulus

In my search for Romulus Jackson I found his d/c and his parents are listed as Elias Jackson and Francis Tackett. One World Tree has a chart with Elias and Francis having a son Marcellus who married and had a son William C. Jackson, born abt 1867 in Bath Co Kentucky. I haven't been able to track Elias Jackson who married Frances Tackett back to Virginia or West Virginia where he was born. Does anyone know anything about either Elias or Francis?

Sandra Berry/SSSully1, [no address]; 29 June 2009

Sandra: An interesting post! Could you send a copy of the title page of Bible you refer to, along with the entries in which the father of ROBERT, 1815-1880, is given as G W Tackett and mother as Lila Jane Senters/Centers?

I do have copies of the pages from the 1851 Bible that was late in possession of John Preston Tackett, 1851-1932 (pub. in 24:3 of The Tackett Journal/American Pioneers), but there are no entries for the parents of Robert Tackett.

As the late Vivian Dickison Bales, 1913-2004, noted to me years ago, we do have “Jaw Bone” history giving Robert’s parents as a George & unknown Senters/Centers, but no evidence.

Regards, Jim W.
Do anonymous posters get responses?

I have seen numerous posters in the last year who now “have chosen to use the online Messages feature to remain anonymous.” I can’t help but expect that these anonymous posters, although there is a way to locate them, will find that few experienced researchers will take the time to do so. I know that I will rarely respond to anonymous messages unless the query is one of a very personal interest to me. I have been working on the surname for over 50 years and I know there are several others who have been working on various branches of the family for a number of years.

Would it not help your own research efforts if you included your name & an email contact address with your posting, or with your profile?

Jim W.
