I've been searching for info on my great grandmother. My great grand parents are Sebastiano & Angela (Taibi or Taibe) Melluzzo. Children: Domenick, Julian, Charles.
My grandmother Angela Taibi or Taibe came from Racalmuto Sicily, and she lived in Brooklyn NY. I know one of her sisters was named Millie, and she had a brother named Michalino, he came to the U.S. but he retired in Italy. I don't know the names of the other siblings who stayed in Italy.
sipe229,
Hi where are you from? My great grandmother is Angela Taibi Melluzzo 93yrs 1898-1992, she had two sisters, Maria & Millie, & a brother named Michaleno, all from Racalmuto Sicily. I wonder if we are talking about the same family. I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY and that's where my great grandmother Angela Taibi Melluzzo lived & passed away.
Sincerely,
Michael Garito
mikeg9000@yahoo.com

Hi, My grandmother's name was Concetta Carlino (second husband Dominick). If it is the same Concetta she was married to my grandfather Giuseppe(Joseph)Agretto. I believe she had 3 children: Rose, Jimmy and ?. I believe that my grandmother Concetta's maiden name was Conidi.

I don't recall the surname of Taibi being mentioned.

Taibi family story about baron, adopted kids, etc... descendants in Niagara Falls, NY

My Taibi ancestors immigrated from Racalmuto, Sicily to Niagara Falls, NY.

There is a family story about our ancestors being the children of a ruling Baron at the time. Because the Baron was murdered, the priest of the three children changed their last name since they were next in line and he thought they would be murdered also. The murderer was the person who followed them in line to be Baron.

I am guessing other descendants of this family might have heard a similar tale? Anyone? Any truth to it or is it all fabricated?

What I have found in original Racalmuto records is that Francesco Taibi and his brother, Angelo, were both adopted. They were not born with the last name "Taibi." What I am unclear on is if they were adopted by their real father (which did happen) or if it was someone else altogether.

Unfortunately, I can't trace our roots far with name changes! Thanks for any hints...

Thanks for the reply! I am assuming your grandma was a Taibi?

My great-grandma's dad was one of the children whose names were changed. He was Francesco "Frank" Taibi, born in 1879 in Sicily. He had a brother named Angelo Taibi born in 1882. There was supposedly a third brother, but maybe he stayed in Sicily or moved elsewhere. My family doesn't have record of him. Perhaps that could be where your family fits in? Or maybe I'm just hopeful :)

Frank Taibi and Carmela Carlino had girls: Calogera "Carrie" (1907,) Angeline "Marlene" (1914,) Assunda "Susie" (1915,) and Mary (1923.)

Angelo Taibi and wife (Cannizzara?) had boys: Angelo Paul (1909), Jim, Frank and Tony.

So let me know about your side a little... who came over? what generation? Thanks!

From what I can tell, the baron and courtesan had: Francesco Taibi (my ancestor) and Angelo Taibi (your ancestor,) both born in Italy. I don't know anything about other siblings.

Francesco "Frank" Taibi (b Jan 20 1879 in Racalmuto, Sicily) and Carmela Carlino had four girls: Calogera "Carrie" (1907,) Angeline "Marlene" (1914,) Assunda "Susie" (1915,) and Mary (1923.) Susie was my great-grandmother (I'm 27.) She married Joseph Riggi and they had three children together, including my grandmother, Claire Riggi. Claire married Leonardo Moretti and had two sons, including my father, Paul Moretti...... and so on :) Claire is still living....

Angelo Taibi (b 1882 in Sicily) and UNKNOWN Cannizzara had four boys: Angelo Paul (b 1909, who married his first cousin, Angeline Marlene, mentioned above,) Jim, Frank and Tony.

I have a few photos of your grandfather, Jim and his wife. I scanned photos that belonged to my great-grandmother. I also have photos of other Taibi family members. I'll attach some in another email.

Hi,
The information you would need is about my grandfather since he was Vincent Taibi. He was born in 1895 and I know his mother's name was Angela Cottone. We think his father's name was Rosario, but information on his father is sketchy which leads me to beleive there is some mystery involved. My e-mail is casbrog15@aol.com. Thanks for any information you might uncover.

Sincerely, Lorraine Castelli

I would suggest requesting the Racalmuto microfilms from the LDS' Family History Center in your area. They have good records that are scanned for Racalmuto. I went through them to pick out my Taibi's from the mix.

I don't think our families are closely related, although perhaps distantly. My g-g-grandfather was Francesco Taibi born 1879, his brother was Angelo born 1881.

Their parents were Paolino Taibi (1864) and Calogera Facciponte.

Paolino's parents were Fedele Taibi (1836-1881) and Calogera Tulumello (Fedele and Calogera also had a son named Antonio (1879-1895) and daughter named Concetta Maria.)

Finally, Fedele's parents were Paolino Taibi and Nicoletta Amato. (Paolino and Nicoletta had other children named: Maria Giuseppa, Alberto, Giovanni and Luigi.)

I got all of that from reading through the microfilms... You could be related from one of these other branches, but the names don't sound similar enough to be my side.... I'm curious what you find out if you do more research. Good luck and ask any questions you have.

He passed away a number of years back, but his brothers Frank and Tony, my great uncles, are indeed still in the Niagara Falls area.

Jim has three decendants: my mother, Lynda, her brother David, and her sister, Elaine. David has two sons, so the Taibi name lives on.

I'd really like to hear how you all fit into the family and what else can be found out about our pre-Francesco Taibi orgins.
