Hi Kelly,
I think you are looking for Joshua Charles Tailby born 2nd Quarter 1875 at Blaby in Leicestershire GRO 7a 40

Married Lillian Sharps at Northwich, Cheshire 3rd Quarter 1901 GRO 8a 575 and appears on the 1911 census for Northwich.

I am assuming that Joshua Tailby, born Stockport 1st Quarter 1931, mother's maiden name Shorrock GRO 8a 121 is their grandson and a relative of yours.

Do you happen to know whether he is the Joshua Tailby who married Vera Rodgers in North East Cheshire, last Quarter 1956 GRO 10a 671? If so, do you know what happened to him? Is he still alive? I have a friend who is looking for information about him.

Hi my name is Dawn and my mum was vera, my dad was Joshua. His Father was George or William(I think)never met him, but his wifes name was Emily Ramscarr, but dont know how long they were together. Joshua had 1 brother and 3 sisters, they were George, Edith, Barbara and Jean. I have 3 sisters Lynda Susan and Carol and my brother Graham. Another brother Trevor was adopted at birth by one of my Aunts and was brought up as their own. Hope this is useful. We all lived in Brinington at the time mainly on Exeter Road which I think is still there. Edith and her family lived in Brinington too, but i think on northumberland Rd or Raynam Way rings a bell, which will be off northumberland Rd if I remember rightly. Hope this is useful.Feel free to get in touch if you like.
Dawn x

Hello everyone

I just wanted to let you know that the Lancaster DNA project currently has some discount vouchers for new participants from one of the commercial labs who do the testing for private genealogists. Could be a good time to get involved?

The Lancaster project would welcome participants with this surname in order to test the theory about the reputed links between us in Northern England in the Middle Ages.

Please contact me if you are interested.

Best Regards
Andrew Lancaster

Is Tailby a Taillebois-derived surname

Hello

As many of you might realize Tailby, along with several other surnames like Talboys, is said to descend from the mysterious de Taillebois family or families, some of whom first appear in very early medieval records - most famously Ivo in the time of William the Conqueror.

You might also realize that it is often claimed that Ivo somehow managed to have male heirs (although other evidence says he didn't) one branch of whom became the first family to take up the surname "Lancaster".

I am a Lancaster genealogist, interested in history, and also the founder of the Lancaster-related DNA surname project. I'd like to suggest that Tallboy families should feel free to join our little community. It is not sure what connections we'll find, but at the very least such DNA work will show which Talboys, Tallboy etc families are in the same male line!

How to contribute or participate is explained here:
http://users.skynet.be/lancaster/participate%20Lancaster.htm

The public results page is here:
http://users.skynet.be/lancaster/index.htm

The project is still growing, and as it grows it's value to genealogists should increase. This requires participation!

Best Regards
Andrew Lancaster

I wish to correct you - the company did not go out of business. It was sold to Derby Corporation as a successful and viable business in 1974.
I have however, information regarding my own branch of the Tailby family (who originated from Burton Latimer in Northampshire) and would be keen to share this with anybody who is interested.

Hi my name is Dawn and I too have been looking for Tailby's
Within my search is Emily Ramscar. Who was Joshua, George, Barbara, Jean and Edith's mother. I do not know the name of their father who would have had the surname Tailby as I only ever knew Emily my grandmother, She was at one time also, either married or living with someone called Sampy, Hence the name Ramscar, they had a daughter who died as a youngster called Amanda. I am not certain if the above Barbara, Jean or Edith were full or half sisters to George and Joshua,
Jean had a daughter called Valerie.
Edith,s children were (Surname-Morris) Alan, Lorraine
& Trevor(Adopted)

Barbara,s children are David and Amanda.(Surname-Lee)
Joshua,s children are Dawn & Graham( Surname Tailby)
Hi

Further to my previous posting.

Miss Tailby's First name was Maud, and she was 18 at the time of the marriage on 3rd April 1915. Her father is named as William James Tailby, deceased, who was what looks on the certificate like a tramcar driver. Both Stanley and Maude are listed as living at 29 Coningsby Road, Ealing at the time.

The witnesses are Willia Tailby, Rosina Tailby and Charles Henry Tailby.
