We also have a Jose and a Manuel who were brothers...Jose named his first son Manuel and Manuel his first son Jose. There is also a very big Tamargo family in Miami. Look on Tamargo.com and you will see. There is also a Jose Antonio Tamargo in Spain on facebook... we need some new names :)

Both my great-grandfather and his father were named Jose Antonio Tamargo. My g-grandfather left Spain for Cuba but didn't stay long before moving on to Tampa.

Why don't you check out my tree and see if you see anyone familiar? Jose and Antonio were very common names, but it'd be quite a coincidence to have our relatives share an entire name like that.

My father, Luis Tamargo was from Guanabacoa in Cuba. He went to Miami in 1968 according to my mother. He died in New Jersey; February 1988. His mom's name was Maria Luisa Tamargo. He had a brother named Jose Antonio Tamargo whom I believe ended up in Miami, but stayed there.
I'm wondering if there's anyone on here who might be related to me and might have so more info?

Pricilla, I have a Manuel but it is not yours. unfortunately, the name Manuel is repeated in EVERY Tamargo family, i think. There is a large Tamargo family in Miami and they have a web site. I have my tree on Ancestry, just do a search. We are from Tampa, Fl.

Cindy - we need to compare notes about our families. I am also a Tamargo in Tampa - my great-grandfather Jose Antonio Tamargo came to Ybor City from Spain around 1900, probably stopping in Cuba for a while along the way.

I suspect that the Tamargos in Tampa are linked by brothers or cousins who left Asturias about the same time but separated and arrived here decades apart. Like you said, though, records are hard to come by.

Hola Antonio, aunque pienses que no es muy comun, hay muchas personas con este apellido, y mas con tu primer nombre, Antonio, tanto en Asturias como en los EEUU, Mexico, las Filipinas y otros paises. Si haces una busqueda en Ancestry, veras el arbol de mis Tamargos cuyo sigo desarrolando. Tambien hay una familia bien grande en Miami Florida que tienen un sitio de web.

Me encantaria saber de la tuya.

conozco a unas diez personas que tengan el mismo.

Leo, my husband is Jorge Tamargo and for years i have been trying to make a connection between all of the tamargos, unfortunately, since the records in cuba are unavailable, i am unable to link it all back to the area of spain of which you speak. i am attaching some fotos of Tamargo from our visit there in 2004. The mayor of Candamo is Miguuel (i think) Tamargo. We tried in vain to meet him. The worst part is that the names repeat themselves. Jose, Manuel, Rosa, Ramon, Antonio are used over and over. It might be due to popularity or because they are all related. I hope one day to find the connection. In the mean time, we live in Tampa where there are 4 Tamargo families, none of us related, that I can link. Some of my husband's family moved to Jacksonville and then on to Indiana and California. I would love to compare names with you to see if we have any connections between us.

Coincidently, my paternal line is from that same area, Grado (actually a little bitty "town" outside of Grado)where my aunt and cousins still live. I think you will fall in love with the area.

my name is Leopoldo Tamargo and I live in Miami FL USA. We came from Cuba in 1962 because of Castro as well. I believe there is a town in Spain called Tamargo in Asturias. I intend to visit the area this summer. My Grand mothers name was Rosa on my fathers side and Conchita on my mothers side. I believe my Granfathers name was Migel Angel Tamargo on my fathers side.

My name is Leopoldo J. Tamargo and I live in Miami, Florida with my family. My Father is Jorge E. Tamargo and My Mothers Name is Martha.
We came to the United States from Cuba in 1960. My Fathers parents were Rosa Tamargo and Migue Angel Tamargo.
This summer my family and I were thinking of visiting Asturias as I hear there are a few Tamargo's to be found there.
Do you have any advice or information you could share with me?

Aqui en Argentina hay muchisimos Tamargo, gracias por el dato, porque es probable que el año que viene viaje a España con mi esposo.Te agradecere si tenes algun dato sobre el origen del apellido, porque yo encontre algo en Celtiberia.net, que se refiere a los tamargos o tejeros que eran artesanos ambulantes, pero su origen se remonta al año 1800, y yo creo que su origen debe ser mas antiguo, ya que he encontrado Tamargos en algunos archivos del año 1600.Si tenes alguna informacion, te agradecere.Desde ya te envio un gran saludo.Desde Argentina, Claudia Tamargo.

Claudia, yo vivo en los EEUU, Tampa Florida donde existen 4 familias Tamargo. Lamentablemente, no he podido pegar las cuatro juntas ya que los familiarias mios vinieron por Cuba y la informacion de cuba no es disponible. Tambien tenemos Manuel y Jose en nuestra familia. No sabemos de que pueblo en Asturias vieneron pero si existe un publo "Tamargo" cerca de Oviedo. Es mas, el alcalde de Las Regueras lleva el apellido. Tambien existe una familia grande de Tamargo's en Miami...tambien tienen a un Manuel en su arbol.
He estado en contacto con Carolina Tamargo en Argentina, tambien buscando su familia. Si me acuerdo bien, su abuelo se llamaba Ramon.

Ingrese aqui buscando el origen de mi apellido, y de paso, les informo que en la Argentina, hay muchisimos Tamargo.Mi abuelo, Emilio Tamargo, vino de Asturias muy joven, luego que sus seis hermanos varones vinieran por la guerra, algunos de sus nombres eran Alvaro, Jose, y Castañon, y sus tres hermanas quedaron en Asturias, una de ellas Primitiva Tamargo-Sus padres se llamaban Manuel Tamargo y Manuela,(Fernandez ?) no recuerdo bien.Vivian cerca de Langreo.Tambien mencionaba a Cangas de Onis, Oviedo y Gijon.Si alguien tiene noticias de esta rama de la familia, se lo agradecere.Se que debo tener muchisimos familiares en Asturias, y como el proximo año viajare para conocer esos lugares, seria un gusto poder conversar con ellos.Gracias.Claudia Tamargo desde Argentina.

in my reseach, the last name comes from asturias spain, in the northern region. there is even a "town" (4 house really) with the name. i have a foto if you wish i can send. there are 4 tamargo families in Tampa, where i live and a couple in Miami. our family came from cuba so i am having problems linking them back to spain, but i am certain that they are from there. please keep me posted on the information you gather, i would love to share what i have and perhaps make a link with yours! cynthia garcia tamargo, tampa, florida USA

que bueno recibir un correo de un Tamargo de Cuba. El bis abuelo de mi esposo tambien fue espanol imigrado a cuba. no sabemos much sobre el y con el nombre comun de manuel tamargo es dificil. solamente sabemos que tuvo un hermano (a lo menos) de nombre Jose y que Manuel estuvo casado con una Carmen Carballas. Me puede dar datos de como encontrar la partida de nacimiento de mi abuelo Jase Tamargo Alvares. Se que nacio en Asturias en los 1800s. Se que su padre se llamaba Prudencio Tamargo y su madre Ingracia Alvares. Tengo unos documentos del ejercio espanol pero no puedo leerlos con exactitud. En ellos se mencionan Castilla la Vieja y Oviedo ademas de otra cuidad que no alcanzo a descifrar.

I have no doubt that my last name orignated from another place in this world. I don't think the indeginous filipinos had souch surnames. The Spanish did have a great influence, there are the language roots, in culture and achitecture. It's nice to hear that there are more Tamargo's out there.

hola Javier. I was there in september. my daughter natalie represented the City of Tampa in Los Dias de America en Asturias. We went to eat at la florinda in grado and went to the mayor''s house a couple of times but he was not home. also, a family came to my daughter's hotel to ask about our family but we were not able to find them after that. they asked if her grandfather was Jose Tamargo. There are many Jose Tamargo's but this is the link we need. Our family, Jose and Manuel Tamargo went to Cuba around 1880 we think but because records are not available for Cuba, Í have not been able to find anything. Hi to everybody. Me and my family live in Asturias near the roots of our surneme. We are a very big family with a lot of cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.

If I can help to somebody to find some person in Asturias or try to match relatlves I will be glad to do that.

I have red of American Tamargos, but never before of Phillipines Tamargo. But, It is not very strange. In the 1800 many asturian families emigrated to Phillipines, (spanish country in that time) and I am sure that among them some Tamargo started the genealogical tree in that far country

Sobre tu oferta, pues te cuento que estoy trancada en cuba. lo que si se es que el bisabuelo se llamaba Manuel Tamargo casado con Carmen Carballas. El tuvo una tabaqueria en Cuba..M.T. Cuadrado. No se si M.T. es Manuel Tamargo y que Cuadrado fue el apellido o no. Tuvieron 2 hijos, Jose y Manuel. Jose es el Abuelo de mi esposo y el nacio aqui en nacio en Tampa. Aqui tenemos como 4 familias Tamargo y pienso que seran parientados lejanamente. Gracias por cualquier ayuda. Estamos MUY anciosos por el viaje.

Paula, que bueno leer tus palabras. Estare en Oviedo 2 semanas para Los Dias de America en Asturias debido que mi hija a sido seleccionado para representar a nuestra ciudad de Tampa en las fiestas. Tengo planeado hacer un poco de investigacion sobre la familia de mi esposo, Jorge Tamargo que pienso tambien vienen de Las Regueras. Puedes darme ideas de donde empezar a buscar en esa ciudad?

This is Javier Tamargo from Asturias (Spain). First of all, i´d like to say that i´m not the "Javier Tamargo" from the list below. I´m a brand new Tamargo in the list.
Dealing with your question....
To my view, your surname has the same origin as others´ outside Spain. It surely comes from the times when The Philipines were Spanish.
Maybe an antecessor of us went to the Ph. Islands to start a new life in pursuit of wellfare and happiness (emigration) ; i can´t reach to know about the outcome though !!!!!.
Nevertheless , it´s nice to hear (read) from you and i wonder if you know any words or a little of spanish language, which was spoken in your country not so many decades ago.

Paula, gracias por contactarme. Seria estupendo si estuviarmos enparentadas. Que pena que no nos conociamos antes debido que estuve en Oviedo/Las Regueras/Grado por 2 semanas en Septiembre. Mi hija fue dama en los dias de America en Asturas representando a Tampa, Fl..done vivimos.

Sobre los abuelos...te cuento que no he podido discubrir nada sobre Carmen solamente que su apellido, en acuerdo con el periodico cuando murio Manuel, fue Carballas. No Se si hera Espanola o Cubana. Manuel tuvo un hermano Jose, y creo que Manuel tuvo una fabrica chica de puros en cuba.

Estoy anciosa de oir de ti para comparar detalles.

if somebody from spain or a tamargo read this , i have a grand uncle caller Dr. Jose Suarez Tamargo, from asturias he was brother of my grand father Manuel suarez tamargo that passed away in 1996 and my other grand unckle Tomas Suarez Tamargo who passed away in 1999, tomas emigrated to Cuba in the 30's and the to the dominican republic because of castro , i have my father that emigrated from asturias he is suarez muñiz but he doesnt know alot of the tamargos, and if somebody knows from the magadans?

hola mira mi familiaes de valduno oviedo en asturias, yo soy nieto de un tamargo, por parte d emi padre que emigro a la republica dominicana, el me conto su abuela se llamo Benita tamargo Diaz ella murio en 1948 ellla se caso con Antonio suarez magadan, si te puede servir de ayuda mi padr eme dijo que te contactes con el consejo de LAS REGUERAS. y si puedes contactame si encuentras algo de mis familiares. I am Lope Tamargo, 83 years old, born in the Philippines. I am the eldest of six children of Eulalio Tamargo. I am probably one of the oldest Tamargo that came from an ancestry in the Philippines. I don't really know where my Family name came from. But my ancestor appeared in the Philippines by early 1800 to 1820. Based on our country's history, during this time Spain colonized our country and I'm not sure how my ancestor got this Family name. I am currently gathering and writing about my ancestry based on my recollection of what my grandfather had told me.

por mi parte, mis bisabuelos proceden de ania, las regueras (asturias); asi que TOMY podemos ser familia; de hecho, tu tio abuelo jose suarez tamargo es el medico que me trajo al mundo (ginecologo)
mis padres viven en oviedo y yo en madrid
respecto a la rama judia sefardi, nunca he oido hablar de ella; y la historia de la inquisicion y la emigracion a finales del XIX carece de fundamento (de hecho la inquisicion que perseguia herejes se remonta varios siglos atras y los judios fueron expulsados de españa incluso antes -en 1492-)

regarding the sefardi jewers branch, I have never heard about it; and the story about The Inquisition and last XIX emigration has no sense (as Inquisition has several centuries and jewers were expulsed from Spain even before -1492-)
