Did you know that there is a branch of the Tangüis family tree in Peru, South America???? How about that???? My great grand father Fermin Tangüis came to Peru in the 1800's and set residence in southern Peru in the valley of Pisco, where he discovered a strand of cotton that was plague resistant, hence the name: "Tangüis cotton" which is way superior to the Pima type.
Right now I live in Orlando, Florida.
I would love to receive a reply from you.

Hi Pbel,

I am looking for information regarding the Tanguis family as well. This family comes from my mother's mother's side of the family. The first Tanguis in my line is a Clemence Marie Tanguis (b: 28 Sept 1905 Abbeville, LA/d: 8 June 1993 New Orleans, LA). She married a Maril Bernard Becnel from New Orleans. Her parents were Henry and Madora Tanguis. According to 1930 census, they were both born abt 1885 in LA. On the census, there had been married 22 yrs and their son Frank (Clemence's brother) lived with them at that time. He was 20 yrs old. I don't know Madora's maiden name.

It is my understanding that these Tanguis came from France via Canada. So When i read your post to another researcher regarding an interview with your father in 2001, i thought there might be a tie in somewhere. Let me know if the information i provided sounds familiar.

Thanks,
John McKeehan

John:
I believe we may be distant cousins. I have the Tanguis family line back to about 1823. Yes they came to New Orleans from Canada.
Please email me directly (phyllisbel@yahoo.com) and I can tell you more. I also have some documents that I can send to you.
Phyllis

Hi Mary,
My line comes down through Henry Sr. I would love to get a copy of that picture you have of Othere and Clemence. If you're still online here. My direct email is jm_lucent1@yahoo.com. Perhaps you could scan and email. In any case, i've been trying to find some information on Henry from 1860 to 1900 before he married Madora, but he seems to be hiding or perhaps going by a middle name? In information you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
john mckeehan
