Hi, I have always wanted to know from where my roots came from.
My father's Grandfather was Fermin Tangüis (Born 1851), an inmigrant who came to Peru and at the begining of the last century he discovered a cotton variety which is known as "Cotton Wilt"
My family only knows that he - Fermin - came from Puerto Rico, but whe don't know where does the family began.

I hope you can help us,

Luis

P.D. Sorry if mi english is not so good, but im out of practice...

I have been told that the Tanguis family came from France, then to Canada, then to the United States.

I have heard the same thing - that the Tanguis family came to South Louisiana from Canada, and before that from France. Unfortunately, I havn't figured out where in Canada or France.
If you find out, post it to this board.

By the way, we e-mailed each other last year. You were going to try to get some information from your father - any luck?

Phyllis - My dad gave me this great copy of a picture of Ortere (Arthur) Tanguis Sr. and Clemence Tregre Tanguis. I can mail you a copy if you want.
I have found: Arthur Tanguis Sr. (b-1832)
(married 5/14/1846)
spouse- Clemence Tregre (b-1833)
children- Arthur Tanguis Jr. (1856-1922)
Henry Tanguis Sr.
Eugene Pierre Tanguis (1848-1878)
Ophelia Tanguis

I have also found the names and dates on their sons' children and spouses. I could not find anything on Ophelia. That is how I found out about Camelia Tanguis and Eugene Thomas Tanguis. I wish that I could find out more info on N.N. Tanguy (the father of Arthur Sr.). I'm not sure of where the Tanguis family came from in France and Canada. My dad says Nova Scotia.

I am working on this line. It would appear that mine came from Canada to Ill and then on to the Ste Geneveive CO MO area. They alternated with the name Semar are any spelling similar. Many were in the Washington CO Mo area. Does any of this sound familiar?

I am looking for Clemantine/Clemence Semar/Seymor that married George Bays. They were in the Washington Co. MO area. I received some info that on their marriage record her last name was Tanguer. Does the name Semar in one language mean Tanguer in another? or vice versa? Any info would be appreciated
