Marc:

I checked my records further. My Alexander Stewart Tassie was b. 28 Nov 1848 and married Wilhelmina Olivia Woodroffe. On their marriage certificate it lists his occupation as “school teacher”. They are the parents of William Olive Tassie. I have a couple of pictures of my grandmother and her siblings with their grandmother Wilhelmina. My oldest sister has the original Bible that was given to Henry Joseph (Yosef) Woodroffe, Wilhemina's dad. Based on the date the Bible was printed he probably received it as a young child. He then gave the Bible to William Olive Tassie. William Olive Tassie then gave it to my sister when she was born and she still has it.

So I can’t wait to hear back from you. Write soon.

BeeBee
Marc:

OMG! I am so happy to find a closely related Tassie. Your grandfather Albert and my grandmother were brother and sister! My aunt (she's still living) and your dad are 1st cousins! But I don't know if my aunt has been in touch with anyone for years??? We are the South Florida folks!!! Ever heard of us??? I remember meeting Albert, Arthur, and Alex when I was really young (any maybe some of their kids), but we never had much communication with them. I have some old pictures too! Maybe you can tell me who they are???

Listen, I really don't want to give too much info here other than that due to personal reasons which I'll explain later. Will you kindly give me your e-mail address and I'll write you there.

Thanks,
BeeBee

BeeBee,

Our family history includes 2 Alexander Stewart Tassies around the same time. One was a teacher at the Galt School the other was not. I do believe that the Alexander Stewart that wasnot a teacher fathered William Olive. I'll confirm this when I check my database wiil advise you.

My great-grandfather is also William Olive Tassie. My lineage is William Olive Tassie --> Albert Bristol Tassie --> Alan Richard Tassie --> Marc Joseph Tassie (myself).

I'm currently updating the family genealogy using a database, and am gathering all sorts of historical facts and anecdotes which I'll be consolidating and make available to any Tassie that is interested. I have done much work so far, and have much more to do.

Please identify yourself more specifically and provide me with you genealogical information. How do you relate to William Olive Tassie?

Dear RAMTASSIE:

I'm told I'm a descendant of the Tassie gem makers, James and William. Do you have any info on them?

My great-great-grandfather Alexander Stewart Tassie was one of the nephews who attended a reunion of the Galt School in the early 1900s. I know on one document I have it lists his occupatoin as school teacher and now I'm wondering if he actually taught there. His son, William Olive Tassie was my great-grandfather.

I see you go by RAMTASSIE. I know the name of my father's cousin is/was Ralph but I never met him. Are you him or related to him? Are you related to this family of Tassie's. Some of these Tassies are in Washington/Oregon, USA and some remained in Canada, but I don't know any of them.

If you know of them, please write back and let me know.
Thanks,

BeeBee

Hi Alan;

I recently sent an email to Jean Salmon and stated that I am still interested in assisting in adding where I can. I have maintained two copies of "Face of a Family" - one is the original in digital form and the other has new info added as new info arrived. Very little has been done since a year ago due to my larger family and also due to work issues. This did not leave much time! Please keep me in touch and I'll do what I can.
Maybe we are in some fashion. I know for a fact that we are direct descents of William Tassie as a History Professor traced us back to him. My great Uncle has the book and is moving right now so he couldn't look up the direct link. But I do believe that my great grandfather's name was Robert or so I am told. He lived in the Chatam area after moving to Canada from Scotland. Interesting enough, I don't know if you ever heard of the other William Tassie who lived in the 1850s era. Very famous school teacher in Cambridge, Ontario named a school after him. I didn't realized he was buired in Peterborough. Found his grave, I don't think anyone has been there for 100 years

email me at arthur2computerspecialist.ca

Hello. I chanced to read your query of last August. I was wondering if you had any luck in getting a solution. I have a reasonably extensive record of most Tassies in Scotland in the past two centuries. If you like perhaps I can help you. No guarantees, but it may be worth a try. What part of Scotland are you in? I await your reply. Alan R. Tassie

This is to Paul in B.C. You say you have two copies of "Face of a Family" one being Jim's original and the other you have changed in some way. You will recall that about two years ago I talked to you about you changing Jim's "Face of a Family" without his permission or input. Please send me a copy of your revised one. Also I tried two years ago to reach Lynn in Australia. You will recall she was in Glasgow just before I went there in 2000. I wanted to "compare notes etc." with her on family research. I never did hear from her. Can you advise if she is still interested and wants to share infomation. I have been doing research for about ten years and have a lot of information about the family's distant past but have never published it. I assumed working with Lynn would be the best thing to do with it. Please advise. I'll wait to hear from you. Alan in Ottawa

I believe you are the Paul Tassie living in B.C. You will recall 2 years ago I corresponded with you about Jim Tassie and his work of the past, "Face of a Family". I was in Scotland twice since then doing research and have much fresh information. We once discussed your use of Jim's book without his permission. Will you please advise the status of it at this time and if you have written a supliment to it, etc. I recently corresponded with Jean Salmon, (who I'm sure you have heard of) She informed me you sent her a "suppliment" to "Face of a family" Would you be so kind as to send me a copy of your latest information. Also I tried for many months after returning from Scotland in 2000 to correspond with you with no success. I wonder if you ever got my e-mails. Please advise as perhaps we can be of help to each other. Alan R. Tassie

I believe you are the Lyn that was in Scotland two summers ago just before I went there to do a month of research. I tried to reach you before you went and for many months after you returned to Australia. I never got a reply from you. Also I failed to get a reply from Paul in Western Canada, although I tried for months to get him to reply to my e-mail. While I was there I dug up a lot of new material. I got the impression from the staff of the Mitchell Library that you had been there. Please contact me as I think we can help each other. Thanks. Alan

I have a picture of seven brothers, John, Tom, Ben, Howard, Roy, Floyd and Seymour. There were six sisters Janet, May, Emma, Lillian, Anna, and Margaret. I knew Aunt Margaret the best. I used to spend summers with her in Centerfield, Utah. Aunt Janet taught me to knit when she visited us one year. Aunt Ann paid a visit in about 1949. Uncle Seymour and Aunt Avis came a couple of times. Uncle Ben's son by his second marriage to Bertha Irene Emert looked us up in about 1955. Until then Dad didn't know what had happened to his brother. I took Dad to Aunt Lillian's funeral in Pocatello, Idaho in 1970. My cousin Lawrence Tassie, son of Roy Tassie had been planning a family reunion. I'll get his address and e-mail address and let you know so you can contact him. He's somewhere around 75. He is a retired Army Lt Colonel. I'm just learning to use e-mail and the internet. Mariam

Tassey photo, Cannon Co., TN

Okay,
Here is the deal. I have some very old pictures of Gassaway and people who lived there. I have deep roots in Cannon County, Tennessee and I have tried countless times to share these photos with the site coordinators for both of the Cannon Co. webpages...hoping they would post them on those websites. I have many old pictures of people that are labeled who to my knowledge aren't even related to me. One example is Dr. Henry McGhee who was a doctor from Gassaway. I would love to find people who might be interested in copies of these pictures. I am an avid genealogist and I understand the value of these pictures. It is my sole intent to SHARE these photos, NOT sell them. Some of the surnames on these photos are, GRIZZLE, HAWKINS, SADDLER, MELTON, STONE, SMITHSON, BASS, ESTES, WOMACK, CATHCART, MCGHEE, TASSEY, POWELL, HOLLANDSWORTH, YEARGAN. My personal family history can be viewed at www.kristimoffitt.com and a few pictures are posted on my other website which is www.gensearch.org
