Hello everyone, my name is Chad and Rachel Amanda Pots is my GGGrandmother. Her son Lorenzo Dow Moss is my Great Grandfather. I have updated ancestry.com with as much information on the family as I have so far.
I am still digging through public records online to try and get a death certificate for Rachel. Her last name at the time of her death was Stanford and her husband died 9 years after her and is burried in Hunt County, Texas. I have not seen his grave so I am unsure if Rachel is burried next to him or not. As soon as I have more information I will post it here.
But as far as her last husband, here is what I have information wise about him, which was written by Betty Craig.
Thomas Stanford, b. c. 1826/28 in TN. Married (l) Nelly Cearly/Kearly, 18 April 1850, Fannin Co., Texas - two children by first wife: John Henry and William C. Your writer requested and received the original marriage license of her great, great grandparents, Thomas Stanford and Nelly Cearly from the Fannin County Clerk’s Office. This was received in July of 1997. It is an interesting story how these early licenses happened to still be in the County Clerk’s office. It seems the bride and groom had never picked them up after the minister had returned them to the Clerk. I happened to be the first descendant to request this original and it was sent to me. The only information they required was the names of the bride and groom and their date of marriage. This I was able to supply them the requested information.
Thomas Stanford married (2) Maranda C. Boyd Newman (Widow of Henry Newman); 4 January 1858, Collin Co., Texas. Their children were Charles, Alexander (Dan), Frances (Fannie), Albert, Jesse, Ada, Emma and Robert. Thomas had 1 step daughter by this marriage - Elizabeth Newman. Married (3) Rachel Tatum, (a widow) 5 January 1880, Collin Co., Texas. No issue. Two Tatum Step sons, Robert Tatum and Lorenzo Dow Moss (Tatum?). Married (4) Jane Harman 19 November 1883, Collin Co., Texas. No issue.
