Alfred Tavares in WWII

I have a 1942 US 50 cent piece, whose reverse has been whizzed smooth, replaced by a very neat, nearly Gothic printing saying: Alfred Tavares, U.S.Army, March 4---1943, N. Africa. My husband got it at a coin show somewhere in New England. Having had no success in tracing said Alfred Tavares (there were altogether too many of them in the 1930 census, some Portuguese in origin, some from Mexico), I offer it to this family board, in case anyone wants to buy it, cheap.
