Col. Thomas Taylor - 1748, North Carolina

Hi. I'm looking for any information on my ancestor Colonel Thomas Taylotr who was born approx. 1748 in North Carolina and who served in the Revolutionary War as a major and a colonel of the cavalry. He was reputedly related to president Zachary Taylor but I'm not sure how valid that is. In any case, Thomas married a woman named Martha and had 9 children with her:

Martha "Patsy" Taylor
James B. Taylor, b. July 11, 1771 in Orange, North Carolina
Susanna Taylor, b. January 2, 1773 in Orange, North Carolina
John Taylor, b. January 2, 1775 in Orange, North Carolina
Mary Taylor, b. March 4, 1777 in Davidson, Tennessee
Robert Taylor, b. April 28, 1779 in Orange, North Carolina
Hannah Fanny Taylor, b. April 22, 1784 in Orange, NC
Sarah Elizabeth Taylor, b. March 2, 1786
Margaret Peggy Taylor, b. July 7, 1792

If anyone has any information on Col. Taylor and his family, I would really love to hear from you. Thanks for reading.

From the Mobile, Alabama newspaper, Wed. Sept. 23, 1908

The last survivor of the battle of Mobile bay made his final surrender Friday to that unrelinquishing conqueror, the grim reaper – Death – for whom that aged believer in the Confederacy had been waiting for many years.

"Patient and willing he went – Albert Taylor, 93, who longer than any of his 'buddies' in the battle that made history at Fort Morgan during the Civil war, had endured the battle for existence and had waited the final command."

Not my line, just sharing.

Searching the FRC, London, England

Hi,

I'm researching my family tree here in England. I live on the borders of London and Kent and, since I now have plenty of time on my hands (due to illness I had to give up working), thought I'd try an experiment.

After a discussion on one of the mailing lists, I wanted to know how people would feel about my charging a small expenses fee for going to the FRC and searching for them. To this end I have set up a poll on my website. There are only 2 questions, so it won't take long to answer! I've also included on the page details of what would be required if you should decide to take up my offer.

I'd usually offer to search for free but I wouldn't be able to get to the FRC as frequently if I did this (unfortunately, no job, no money!), the cost of parking. petrol etc. in England is colossal!

How do you feel about it? Please let me know. Thanks.

I also have my family tree and a family album on my site. I'm researching BASHAM, BARNABY, BREWER, EVANS, KING, ONG, TAYLOR, LACEY, SNELLING, SANSOM, WEAVER, DORSETT, HOPCROFT, LANGTHORN all from England at present.

Hope you don't mind me asking you about all this, but I felt, that as I have so much time, I might as well do something useful!!!!

Paulette

I am researching Hudtson/Hudson Taylor, who was born in Hallifax county, N.C. in 1762, but was raised in Northhampton. He lived in Chatham County, N.C. while in the Revolutionary War. His application for pension states he volunteered for service in 1778.

Hudtson moved to Montgomery County, N.C. after the war. While living in Montgomery County, he made application for a Revolutionary pension in 1833.

Was this the Hudson Taylor who had a brother named Nimrod, also a revolutionary soldier?

Was this the Hudson Taylor line that moved to Carroll County Tennessee?

I would appreciate any help with learning more about Hudson.
I am seeking information about my gggg grandfather for a DAR supplement. He fought for VA, died in the Revolutionary War. Had two sons I know of: my ggg Charles and Arthur jr. Arthur's wife was Celia Unknown. Charles married Elizabeth Potts Rutherford Co NC 1788. In 1790/ living next door to mother Celia. Celia and Charles are mentioned in court minutes of Rutherford in 1780's. Celia filed for the estate of Arthur in Rutherford Co. The minutes mention his death in the Revolution.
By 1800 Charles and Arthur have moved to Anson Co where Arthur owned land before the Revolution. Charles moved back to Rutherford /now Buncombe in the 1820's. I think Charles was in the Revolution, too. A Charles was listed in the same area. He was born around 1758.
Arthur owned land in old Tryon in the mids 1770's near his father old Robert when they first migrated from VA. He is the only son mentioned in the early land records for old Tryon that I found. Arthur would have been born about 1738. Possibly he was the first son.
Arthur's son Charles had sons: Joseph, Littleberry Grissom and Greenberry. My great great Joseph stayed in the Buncombe/later Henderson area. Green and Littleberry moved to Alabama. Any info on this family would be appreciated.

Pleasant Taylor, Nancy ?, of Franklin Co. ALA

They were in Franklin Co for the 1840, 50, 70, & 80 Census. Looks like they were in Lawrence Co. ARK, Marion Twp, for the 1860 census. They were in the household of a VANDIVER/VANDEVER.

Does anyone know what their connection was in ARK? Also, what was Nancy's Maiden name?

DNA testing is showing that there is a VERY close connection between my Taylor's (James M. & Jennetta) in Myatt Twp of Fulton Co. ARK and the Taylors (David) of Franklin Co. ALA.
mikeinkaty@sbcglobal.net

I am looking for further information on Mary Jane Roberts who married Zachariah Taylor. She was born in Indiana in 1819 and died in Benton County Arkansas in 1902. She moved to Arkansas with her daughter, Sarah (Taylor) Putnam and is listed as a widow in 1880. Sarah was married to John Putnam.

Mary Jane’s mother and Sarah’s Grandmother was Nancy Green born in Tennessee in 1798 and was married to Albert Roberts in 1818. She resided in Lincoln, Tennessee in 1820 and then eventually moved to Johnson County, Indiana and died there in 1877.

I am particularly interested if anyone knows of any Native American link with Mary Jane and Sarah’s family.

I am interested in information about my great-aunt, Ruth Taylor. She was born in 1908 in Matamoras, Ohio, daughter of James Clyde and Elizabeth Schulz Taylor.

Ruth left home when she was 13 years old, and although the family searched for her, they were not able to locate her. She may have been with William Adams, as he disappeared at the same time.

A call was made recently to my family, saying that Ruth had 13 children, and some are still alive, and none know of her past. Would love to be in contact with these relatives - please contact me with any information. Thank you.

TAYLORs of Westchester Co., NY

Hello! I've been researching the Taylors of Westchester Co, NY. My great grandmother was Susan M. Taylor. I find her in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses. Her mother was Carrie E. Taylor, and in the 1900 she is listed as widowed, so I have no clue as to who Susan's father was. If anyone has any info about this family, please let me know. I'd like to learn the name of Susan's father, as well as her mother's maiden name (then again, wouldn't we all love to know these things about all of our ancestors... lol)

Susan went on to marry Michael Buckley of Lewisboro, Westchester Co. NY

Thanks so much,
Gail

Joseph Taylor, FL, 1930s???

My grandfather was adopted in the 30s by his step-father after the death of his mother. They were married on her death bed. He knew nothing of this father. He grew up in Jacksonville,Fl during prohobition and his step-father was a bootlegger. His bio-father worked for him and during a run to Cuba never was heard from again. Then, there is another version...don't have to tell you how that goes. There was a claim that he ran into his father in the 50s in West Palm or Ft. Lauderdale(??) Anyway, all he claimed to know is that his father was Joseph Taylor...I seen the divorcement index of 1926 to support that his mother Onis Bishop divorced Joseph Taylor. Any info. on this intresting story will greatly be appreciated. Thank you.
Please contact me @ navigatator@yahoo.com
Bill Taylor 1862-? Texas & Louisiana

I'm doing research on the Taylor surname and in particular Julius/Julious, (and his father Bill), who is said to have been born in "Old Boggie, LA" on June 8th, 1887. An African-American, he was the eldest of six children. According to family lore, he joined the "Old Boggie Church". It is also said that his father Bill fled Louisiana because he killed a white man.

The family relocated to Harrison County, TX sometime before 1900, as Bill and his family are listed in the 1900 census in Household #145, District 48, Justice Precinct 4, Harrison Co., Texas.

I'm also looking for any information concerning an area somewhere near Greenwood, LA that's called Boggy Bayou. I've found it on an 1845 map and it's also referenced in current Corps of Engineer maps, but nothing in any on-line maps that I can find.

Any help in trying to locate this locality or any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.
