Do you have any information on Teaney's in Buchanan County, Missouri? Our Wylie family may be connected. Many documents interpreted the cursive "T" in Teaney to be an L, so Leaney is recorded as being connected to Wylie's. I believe it is actually the Teaney family.

Hi Dan,

I just saw your message from 03 Feb 2002. I've done extensive research on the Teaney family over nearly twenty years. I have found several Teaney listings in Canada but have not pursued them because I haven't seen a connection to my line. After much effort I found that I am a descendent of John (Johann) Teaney born 1713. He was most likely German. Teaney, I'm sure, is not the correct spelling. Teaney seems to be an Irish or English name. I suspect your ancestors may have come from Ireland to Canada. You may e-mail me directly if you like.
Kathy Wilding
jfwkjw@aol.com

Wattenbarger and Nancy Ann Collett.
Frederick and George were brothers. If the middle initial
for Mary stands for Tennessee, then Sarah and Mary
were cousins. Sarah Jane first married John K. Barkley
in Washington Co. Tenn. They had one Son, George W.
Barkley. He was a baby when John died. Soon after,
Sarah Jane married Erasmus Teaney. You say that your
Mary Tennessee Wattenbarger married a Teaney. It seems
that your GG Grandmother Mary Tennessee and my Great
Grandmother Sarah Jane both married Teaney's. I have
lots more information and will be glad to answer questions
you may have.

As for the Indian Lineage, it's Cherokee and came through
Nancy Collett. I've been searching to find who her parents
were. I don't think the Indian came from her fathers side,
but from a Hilderbrand relative on her mothers side

Flora Ebner Teaney newspaper obituary - New Albany, Indiana

***SPECIAL NOTE*** Please note that I am not related to any of these people, but have run across several newspaper articles and such that my grandfather collected from the 1950's and 1960's. He was born and lived his entire life in Shelby County, Indiana, and most deal with Shelby County, but there are articles from other papers, too. While I am unsure of the fate of these clippings and such (would like to give to a historical or genealogical group), I thought the least I could do was post the articles that I can positively date, in case they were of any genealogical interest to anyone. Hope someone finds this information useful.

The following item is from the back of an article about a civil war boat. Unfortunately, it has been cut in such a fashion that I cannot name or precisely date the newspaper. However, I beleive it is from the Louisville Courier-Journal sometime in 1962. There are advertisements on the back of the article of two New Albany businesses, and another article in this particular 'batch' that I am going through ranges in dates from 1959 to 1962, and the only other Courier Journal article I can positively identify is dated 1962. I assume my grandfather had a subscription or at least access to that paper at that time. If it is not the Courier Journal, it is a New Albany newspaper.

Under "Area Deaths"
New Albany - MRS. FLORA EBNER TEANEY, 58, died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday in a Madison hospital. She was a native of Pineville, Ky. Survivors are her husband, Charles R. Teaney, and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Cadell, Deputy, and Mrs. Mary Fine, Indianapolis. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mullineaux Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park.

Karen,

I'n positive there is a connection here.Eramsus Augustus Cease Teaney was born in 1821 in Augusta County, Virginia. His father was Francis Cease Teaney. Francis married Mary Huff, daughter of Francis Huff. I have a record of Henry Cease born 1779 and orphaned being bound to Francis Huff. I wonder if that's your Henry Cease and the birth year is just wrong. It seems logical that his mother might have been a Huff daughter too. I take it you don't know who Henry Cease's parents were. Francis Teaney moved his family to Illinois in the 1830s. I don't recognize any of the other surnames that married into the Cease family so, I think the connection is with the parents of Henry Cease. If you would like to E-mail me directly my address is: jfwkjw@aol.com.

Thanks so much for the information. Kathy

Hi Karen,

Yes, I've been trying to make the connection between the two families for some time. I didn't know there was an Erasmus Augustus Cease though. That's exciting news. I had assumed my Erasmus Augustus Cease Teaney got all of his names from different relatives. His father was Francis Cease Teaney. I would very much like to compare information with you. Kathy Wilding

I have not checked this message board in a long time. If I had I would have responded earlier.

Almost all the Teaney's can be traced back to a John/Johann Henrich Teaney who came to Philadelphia from Germany in 1732 at the age of 19. Teaney was probably not the original German name; but some version thereof.

If you would like different information, please E-mail me directly.

Dean Teaney
Charleston, WV
rdteaney@charter.net

I believe that my Dad and your Mom were half brother and sister.

My Dad went to visit her a few times and really enjoyed the time he spent with her because they rarely saw each other as children. I spoke with her on the phone once and she was very kind and very interested in our family.

I too am looking for more information about Sara.
Kathy and All:

I have reason to believe that Sarah Jane Wattenbarger Teaney was the sister, or half sister, of my Gr.Gr.Grandmother Mary Tennessee Wattenbarger (b. 9 Dec 1848 Leesburg, TN, d.1881) who married John Francis Teaney (b. 15 Feb 1849 Carrollton, IL, d. 24 Apr 1931 Mountainaire, NM) in 1869. Mary Tennessee's parents were Frederick Theodore Wattenbarger (b. 1810 Washington Co., TN) and Emaline Charliton (b. abt. 1816 in Tennessee) and were married 1 Feb 1838 in Washington Co., IL.

Do you have any information to support this? Two of my ancestor's relatives were named Erasmus CEASE. One was Erasmus Porterfield CEASE, the other was Erasmus Augustus CEASE.

It seems to me that the Erasmus' in the TEANEY line are descended from this family. Does any know?
Dean,

My great grandparents were James Daniel Teaney (Son of Samuel) and Martha J. Lambert. My grandmother was Fredonia May Teaney who married Jefferson Davis Campbell and my father's name was Gordon Lowe Campbell. We have wondered where the Gordon came from, and now maybe we know.

I have just started working on my Teaney family so I don't know much except all the descendants of Fredonia May Teaney and ancestors provided by Kathy Wilding.

My e-mail is bennholz@aol.com.

Thanks,

Patricia Campbell Bennholz

Dear Kathy,

Martha J. Lambert and James Teaney are my great grandparents. I found in the 1900 census where James was living with his daughter, Fredonia, and husband, Jefferson Davis Campbell. I'm just starting to work on this part of my family and would appreciate any information you could give me.

My e-mail is bennholz@aol.com.

Do you know where the Teaneys are buried. I live real close to Clay County and Bates County is not that far.

I would appreciate some help getting started.

Thanks,

Patricia Campbell Bennholz
