This is what I know about Sarah E. Lowe. Sarah is sometimes called Sallie. Forget the mention of a Rebecca – that was different person!
Sarah E. Lowe was the daughter of Willis Lowe and Adoline Whittington.
She was born ( 1847) and raised in Hinds Co. Miss. She was the oldest of at least 8 children.
She married Arthur Thebeau on 6 May 1867. I have seen this name spelled many different ways. Arthur was from Canada, according to Census records. In Canada and La. this name is also spelled Thibault.
They had 2 sons:
Paul Tebeaux born about 1874. (Somewhere I have seen the initials P. E.) In 1880, Paul is listed with John Edmond Lowe in Copiah, Co. He was 6 years old. John Edmond was Sarah Lowe Thebeax’ brother.
Hercules A. Thebeau born about 1868. In the 1880 Census, he is listed with W. J. Lowe and wife M. E. Lowe in Hinds Co. His name is listed as H. Tebaugh and he was 12 years.
The next time I fount Hercules was in the 1900 Census – he was listed as H. A. Teaboux in Simpson County. Age 35, born about 1866. He is listed with is wife, Jenny. Children are Minnie?, Claude, Leroy, Eddy.
In 1930 he is still in Simpson County with his wife and daughter Gladys 14.
Sarah had property given to her by her parents in Hinds county. On a map I have the lot is decribed as the Tebo lot.
Some records in Hinds County show the spelling as Thebaux.
I have several pertaining to Sarah and Arthur.
I have lots of information on the Lowe family, if you are interested.

My son, Ryan Tebo has done extensive research on Alexander. He found that Alexander's birth name was Francois Xavier Thibault, born 12/08/1824 in St. Luc, Richelieu (Canada). His parents were Pierre Thibault and Francoise Richard (daughter of Louis Raphael Richard and M. Theotiste Belanger) They were married in Cap St-Ignace. Francoise died in New York, NY.

Alexander (Francoi Xavier) had a brother- Joseph Thibault (born in 1833 in Cap St-Ignace. Joseph married Marie Tremblay, daughter of David Tremblay and Josephte Surprenant on 2/17/1852 in St Joseph du Corbeau, Cooperville, NY.

Alexander (Francois Xavier Tebo) was buried in Highland Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana in 1914 at age of 90. He married Emile Gervais and moved to Iroquois County in Illinois. Emilie died near there around 1870, but my son and I were not able to find where she was buried. I am told she is in Liberty Cemetery, but couldn't find that information. He remarried (Elizabeth Berkshire) in 1874 in Lafayette, IN. We haven't found the exact church or public site for the marriage.

My son, Ryan is working on a documentary on the search for Alexander and his ancestors. It will take another year or two before he has the time to finish it. He lives in Cambridge, MA (ryantebo@yahoo.com) and teaches film making at Emerson College and Massachusetts College of Art.

We were able to find records of the burial of Emilie Gervais' parents: mom is in Bourbonnais at BVM Catholic Church and father is in Old Burg Cemetery next to a corn field in Iroquois County.

I hope this gives you some new information. Many people have told us they always ran into a road block with Alexander- I think my son was able to clear up most of that mystery.

Sincerely,

Gary Tebo 716-675-4856 grtebo@verizon.net

I'm not sure if I have a connection.

I've been bogged down on my Tebo line for a few years. I lose track when I get back to Canada. Can you tell me if Alexander Tebo had any brothers? And who is Alexander's father?

Richard Tebo

Paul- I placed my name in Google and found you question about Emilie Gervais Tebo (Thibault). My son, Ryan Tebo, and I spent several days last summer (2008) in Bourbonnais and Kankakee. We found the burial place of Emilie's mother at a catholic church there and her father's grave and stone at a small cemetery next to a corn field in Iroquois County. I have pictures and maps for locations if you are interested. Ryan found that Alexander's name was originally Francois Xavier before he and Emilie emigrated in 1840 from Canada. Ryan went to the church where they were married and interviewed the people there. He is making a documentary on the quest for Alexander Tebo's history. Alexander is buried in South Bend, IN. He was my great, great grandfather and dies in 1914 at the age of 90 (born in 1924 in Canada). We were unable to find the grave site for Emilie, but believe it is in Liberty Cemetery. Please contact me at grtebo@verizon.net if you wish to share more information. My son is in Sweden now and hasn't done more on the documentary yet. Gary Tebo 716-675-4856.

Thanks for the website. All of the Tebo information is from my uncle Jay and grandfather Julian Drenner Tebo.

I think this answers your link to James Frederick. I believe that John, Jr. moved to MD from some other threads on this site that I have exchanged information with. The spelling changes to Tebo.

I am researching a possible link with John A. with Conrad Teboe (originally spelled Thibault). This is a very likely connection as he was married 30 miles away from where John was married, Martinsburg, WVA.

Hi, Christopher.

I've had some luck with my Tebo line but the information I started with (and what you read in my earlier post) turned out to be incorrect. My Tebo surname is actually spelled, "Thibaut" and my ancestors immigrated from Hainaut, Belgium where there were many generations of Thibauts before them. The states in which I have located them since their arrival have included Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Washington. Most of the males were coal miners and seemed to move from area to area, when and wherever they could find work.

As of now, I have not found anything to lead me to believe that there might be a connection with your Tebos. I do know there are many ways to spell the surname and that many with the name spelled, "Thibaut", "Thibault", "Thebaut", etc., stated their place of origin as Canada, as well as Belgium and France. But, I'm pretty sure that you've already found as much in your own research, right?

I will, however, keep your ancestor in mind as I continue with my research and will certainly let you know if I find anything that might be related to him and/or the rest of his family.

Best of luck!

Marsha

I never knew him, but according to his nephew Thurman Tebo of Magee, MS (still living) he was an exceptionally strong man nicknamed Hercu-Lee,and one of his vocations was making white oak baskets.
Charles & Celina (census also has Selina, but these are notorious for misspellings)
had 3 of their children born in Canada.
You could write to the American French Genealogical Library in Woonsocket R.I/ (web page afgs.org)and tell them of your goal at St. Modeste, Rimouski.
They have on microfilm a huge selection of the records of the churches in Quebec.
For a nominal fee, they can provide copies of the baptismal records of the children of Charles Thibault and Celine Nadeau if they were born there. Of course they will be in French, but can usually be easily translated if the handwriting is legible.
Martine b. 1867
Delphine b. 1868
Ida b.

My great great grandmother was Margaret T. Tebo, a sister of Phebe S. Tebo. I have a copy of her obituary, which states that she was the last survivor of 11 children, and that she had 5 full siblings and 5 half-sisters. I know that she was born in 1842 in Morris County, NJ, and died in 1938 in Nebraska. She married David M. DeCamp in Morris County NJ in 1861. I don't know the names of any of their other siblings for sure, but I do suspect that John J. Tebo was their brother. Margaret's father was Jacob Tebo, who is listed in the 1850 census for Morris County, NJ. I have her mother's name listed as Mary, but I don't know Mary's maiden name. I've kind of hit a stumbling block at finding out more information about this family.

There is an Obit. and seperate article about Michael Tebo in the Menominee Michigan paper. We just recently found these on microfilm at the Menominee public library. He was born 4/15/1837 in Canada and died at age 92 in Menominee and is buried at Riverside Cemetary in Menominee. His fathers name was Benjamin Tebo who died in Canada along with an unnamed brother who also died in Canada. I believe the month of Obit. and article are about Oct. 5, 1929. His name came to my attention researching my Tebo family members in Menominee just last week. There has been numerous ways that Tebo has been spelled previous to being the present form. Most common found are Teabeau and Thibault which is most common. Please e-mail us and maybe we can e-mail you the obit. and article along with any other info we may have. We are unsure if Micheal is tied to our family.
