Anna Tecklenburg married Herman C Bergmann in about 1865, and it is assumed she died by 1870ish because then Herman married Carolina/Lena in 1871 (Montgomery county for sure on this one). Anna and Herman had at least one child together, Mary Louise Bergmann (born in 1866)who married Carl Weber/Webber. Henry William and the others were born to Herman and Carolina/Lena. Both women would have been born around 1840 - 1845ish...

Caroline Madgalina Tecklenburg, born Dec 03, 1878 in Carlinville, Macoupin County, Illinois is the daughter of William Frank Tecklenburg & Mary Marko (in my trees online). She had a sister, born Sep 7 1880, but I did not have her name. Family is enumerated with Charles Bremer in 1900 (US Fed Census, Missouri, Monroe County, Union Township, Sheet 12).

I assume it was Anna that married Herman? I have nothing on her, so would like to exchange info.
Both lived in the Macoupin County (Carlinville IL) area and Montgomery County (Raymond IL) area and married a man named Herman C Bergmann (1839 - 1898).
Thank you for your prompt reply to my posting. Unless, Henry Tecklinburg, who served in the 24th IL Infantry, Company D, was a polygamist, and I'm beginning to wonder :), I have his widow's pension application and Johanna Bader was not the widow of this Henry. Please contact me at Donnag@msn.com so that we are able to exchange further information. Thanks, so much!
Thank you for contacting me regarding Henry Tecklenburg of Belleville. I do believe he served for the Union in the 32nd IL Infantry, Company "H" and in the 24th IL Infantry, Company "D", during the Civil War. Johanna Bader was his widow that applied for pension?

I traced the family of Henry Tecklenburg as a result of the name being so rare and the fact that my ancestor, Friedrich Wilhelm Tecklenburg, resided in Mascoutah about 10 miles west of Belleville in St Clair County. I'm not sure if Henry's family is related, but in my quest for the Tecklenburgs of St Clair County I have collected some data on Henry's family as I sorted out who belonged to whom...so I then put the info into my tree hoping that I could tie them together one day.

I have traced my Tecklenburg ancestry into Bückeburg, Schaumburg-Lippe, Germany. I engaged the Immigrant Genealogical Society in California to conduct a search of the Bückeburg Parish Records, which are in Old German Script and very difficult to decipher without knowledge of that script. 1835 baptismal records were searched and nothing for Henry was found.

Please send me a private note through the message service with your email so that I can share files, etc.

Don't know if I can help much. My great aunt married a Tecklenberg, so have done a little checking on the family. I have found Leopold Friedrich Tecklenberg b Bet. 20 Jan–16 Feb 1799 Ubeckinsun (?) Curhessen; died 10 April 1888; given as the father of Heinrich Tecklenberg and Henrietta Johanne Tecklenberg among others: Sophia Ernestine Caroline; Leopold; & Eduard/Edward, but I have no Augusta. Heinrich was the father-in-law of my Catherine (Lehmann) Tecklenberg, wife of Henry Tecklenberg, who lived in Ft. Loramie, Shelby Co., OH. Leopold's wife is given as Ernestina Sophia Eleonore Witte b 06 Jan 1800; d before 1849.

The information I have shows Henrietta born Sep 1839; married Alphons Horton. This is all the information I have accumulated from my research, so more details will need to be found. I would assume that this may be the same family since Auglaize Co. and Shelby Co. are adjacent counties.

Hope it helps so you can go forward with more research and make your family connection.

Audrey

I am looking for the parents of Henrietta "Hattie" Tecklenberg, b. Ohio, ca. 1840. She m. in New Bremen, Auglaize County, Ohio, 17 Dec., 1863, Alpheus Horton. (I am working on the Horton line). It looks like she had a sister named Augusta who m. in same town, 12 July, 1870, Frederick Schoettle. Also, Leopold Tecklenburg and wife Sophia (Ludson) Tecklenburg had a daughter named Emma in New Bremen, 22 Feb., 1870. New Bremen was a very small community with many Immigrants.

Any help would be appreciated. This is NOT my immediate family, but connects to a person in our Horton line..

Thank you, Joe, for that information regarding the Bueckeburg Archives and for all the spelling variations. I am still "stuck" at this point, unable to get back any further, but maybe I can check into those church archives. That was a good tip. Good luck on your research.

Hello Mary,

I have seen the "Tecklenburg" surname interpreted as "Teklenberg", "Tekelnburg", "Ticklenburg" "Jecklenburg", "Fecklenburg", "Tacklenburg" and sometimes with -berg as the suffix vs. -burg. My branch of "Tecks" are sometimes found without the 'c' in the Bueckeburg Church records. The IGS {Immigrant Genealogy Society} in Burbank, Calif. has the Bueckeburg Church Archives.

Hello,
I am researching the name "Teckleberg" which I found in a church record for my great, great grandmother. She was married to Heinrich Woebbeking and their children lived around Buckeburg. Could this name be Tecklenburg instead? Have you ever heard of the name Teckleberg in your research? Any opinion or help would be greatly appreciated. Three of their children, Woebbekings, settled in Springfield, Illinois, in the 1880's.
Thanks,
Mary

I do not know of a direct tie to the Ohio Tecklenburgs, however two of my Tecklenburg immigrant ancestors resided in Indiana/Ohio area during the 1850s prior to settling in Illinois, so there is a good chance there is a connection. The earliest Ohio record for a Tecklenburg that I am aware of is the marriage of Frederick Tecklenburg to Catherine Lamping on Dec 13, 1849 in Auglaize, Ohio. Your William and the above mentioned Frederick could be the same person or could be brothers. Also might be a cousin of the Illinois immigrants...but I would need a firm birth date to definitely tie him to the Buckeburg baptismal records.

Are there any ties to the Cincinnati area? I have Teklenburgs (many spellings) there in the mid-1800s. A William Teklenburg and his wife, Dorothy Schroeder or Schroer, had a son (William H.) in 1859 in the Cincinnati area. William H. married Rosa Winkelman and had children Elmore (1882), Lotta C. --aka Lottie--(1885) and William E. (1887). Lottie was my great-grandmother. She married Frank Henry Krueger, had two children, lived in Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana for awhile, and died in 1913. I haven't gone very far on this family yet. Anything sound familiar? Amy in Cincinnati

Looking for information regarding the siblings/ancestors of Friedrich Wilhelm Tecklenburg (aka Fred/William), born August 01, 1827 in Germany {prob Buckeburg, Schaumberg-Lippe}. Friedrich worked as a carpenter/tinner and settled in Mascoutah, St. Clair County, Illinois. He married Marie Eva Dambach on June 26, 1853 at St. John United Church of Christ, Mascoutah, St. Clair County, Illinois, daughter of J Jacob Dambach (mother unknown). Marie Eva Dambach was born July 31, 1828 in Hassloch, Rheinpfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate), Germany. Likely siblings/relatives of Friedrich living in Masoutah in the 1860s included Christian Tecklenburg, Louis Tecklenburg and Phillipina Eleanora Single (nee Tecklenburg). Also a Henry Tecklenburg from Hanover, who resided in Belleville may have been a sibling.

Friedrich and Marie Tecklenburg had eight children in Mascoutah: Katherine Tecklenburg (died in infancy); Rose Tecklenburg (died in infancy); Charles Augustus Tecklenburg, b Oct 10, 1854 (married Wilhelmina Katrina Schrader bef 1882 and moved to St. Louis, MO); Sophia Caroline Tecklenburg, b Aug 10, 1857 (presumably died young); Jacob William Tecklenburg, b May 4, 1858 (married Dora Jenning Dec 12, 1882 in Mascoutah Bethel ME Church and moved to St. Louis, MO); Christiana Tecklenburg, b Jul 12, 1859 (never married); Mary Louise Tecklenburg, b @1861 (married William Shields Dec 14, 1887 in St. Louis, MO and moved to Louisville, Kentucky); and Mathilda Tecklenburg, b Sept 29, 1863 (married Charles Heer Oct 9, 1889 in Mascoutah Bethel ME Church).

Friedrich died August 19, 1873 in Mascoutah, St. Clair County, Illinois and is buried in the Mascoutah City Cemetery with his wife Marie Dambach, who passed May 06, 1900 in Mascoutah, St. Clair County, IL.

Any information regarding “Fred” or “William” Tecklenburg would be appreciated.
