Alma Teel, 1944, 3404 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN

I am searching for information on Alma Teel of 3404 Charlotte Pike in 1944, listed as the Informant on the Tennessee Death Certificate for Martha J Perry Martin of Coffee County, Tennessee, dated November 1944. While the DC reads "Teel" it might of course really be Teal. I am trying to learn more about Martha J Perry Martin's parents, listed on the DC as Mary Ayers and Drury Perry. On her sister Lucy Perry Roberts' DC the mother is listed as Katherine Ayers. They are believed to be one and the same. The Perry family has proved difficult to find in Census records and the parents are believed to have died by 1870, or at least one died while the other, probably Drury, moved on. Thanks for any help with this matter. Marty

I will send you a copy of the probate document. It mentions his son, Emsley Teel, and is signed by Thomas Alexander (my ancestor), who is his sister's [Catharine (Teel) Morris'] son-in-law.

I do not have andocuments showing who Samuel's father is, but it supposedly has been well-documented. His father was Henry Teel, who died in Blount County, Tennessee in 1812. Several people have mentioned that they have seen a transcript of his will in Blount County. As everyone has already mentioned, Henry's father is believed to be Joseph Teel who emigrated from Germany and lived at Catocton Manor, (now)Loudon Co., Virginia. His original name was Josef Diehl. I have a litle info on him.

They are part of the same family. Mary's father, Samuel Teel, is my g-g-g-g uncle. I am directly descended from Samuel's sister Catharine Teel (who married Richard Morris). All of them lived in Coles County during part of the 1830's. Catherine is buried in the Martinsville City Cemetery in adjacent Clark County. I have an electronic copy of a probate document for Samuel Teel of Coles County hat someone on Ancestry was kind enough to send me.

How did you come across these documents?

Have you scanned them to make electronic copies?

Hello - My branch of the Teel/Diehl family, descended from Simon Jacob Teel, was/is in Luzerne County, via Bucks/Berks/Northampton/etc. counties, however, I cannot find a Henry in the family tree. In 1788, when Henry was born, this branch was still in Bucks or Monroe county. As I'm sure you know, Pennsylvania had quite an invasion of Palatine Diehl/Deal/Teel/etc.s in the 1740's! I'm happy to look again & send whatever info I've got, if you find any possible parents for Henry. Good luck with the hunt!

I am looking for the parents of John Lewis Teel (1812-1880). I think his mother was Rebeckah, but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I realize that this is a very old posting and am not sure if you're still researching this family. I have limited facts on those you are questioning. My grandmother was first married to Alonzo and they shared a son (Alfred/Alford). Alonzo was supposedly killed in a tractor accident prior to 1913. My grandmother then married James Levi Rush.

There was a John Teel, Revolutionary War soldier, DOB: 1751 in New Jersey, who married Catherine Vandermark in 1794 in Luzerne County, PA. I have not found a Henry Teel among his children. HOWEVER, prior to Catherine Vandermark, he was married to Sarah Hand. If Henry was John Teel's son, and born in 1788, then he would have been the child of Sarah Hand. John Teel's Revolutionary War pension file indicates that he had 23 children. I can account for 10 children with Catherine and have the names of 7 children that he had with Sarah Hand.

John Teel died in Beaver County, PA., reportedly at the age of 97 and is buried there. His widow, Catherine, moved to Schuyler/McDonough County, ILL, to live out her life with one of her daughters (Catherine Teel Waid), died, and was buried there.

If you establish a connection to John Teel, let me know as I have quite a bit of information about his descendents through Catherine Teel Waid. I have some black & white pohotographs of some of the headstones from the Teal Cemetary that I took twenty years ago. If I can find them, I will scan them and if you are interested in any of them I will email them to you. I am located in Raywood, Texas.

James A. (Jim) Teel

I heard a story about Uncle Billy riding a mule from the old homeplace in Saratoga through the Big Thicket to preach at a Church near Sour Lake (I think it was Pine Island Baptist Church). He would leave early in the morning before daylight. Also heard a story about him busting into a saloon in Saratoga shaking his Bible at the patrons and preaching against the sin of drinking. I beleive it was during the time of the oil boom back around 1900.

As you probably have discovered long before now, Catherine (Teel) Morris and Isaac Teel are believed to be brother and sister, children of Henry Teel (d. ~1816 Blount Co. Barns if Owen County, IN marriage records are correct.

http://www.owen.in.us/owenhist/bks123j.htm

Here are the pre-1850 marriage records for Teels in Owen county, Indiana.

Rebecca Teal married Joseph Acres. License filed on Sep 2, 1832; License not returned

Maranda A.Teel married Benjamin Martin on Mar 27, 1834; Hugh Barns, M.G.(magistrate)

Isaac Teele married Sally N.T. Barns on Dec 04, 1823; Stephen Grimes, M.G.(magistrate)

Polly Teele married John Skidmore on May 09, 1820; Hugh Barns, M.G.(magistrate)

I assume that Maranda Teel is related to the others (probablyas a sibling)

Is this Mary "Polly" Teel the sister of Catherine (Teel) Morris, Peter Teel, and Samuel Teel that also moved from Greene/Blount County, TN to Owen County, IN and later to Clark//Coles Co, IL? They could be found on the 1819 tax rolls ,and the 1820 & 1830 Census Records for Own county. A rebeka Teel was also listed on the census schedules for 1830. Catherine was married to Richard Morris in Greene Co, TN in 1802.

This info matches up well with them. Their father Henry Teel (aka Heinrich Diehl) is supposed to have died in about 1812 in Blout Co, TN based on his will proven in court (at that location).
John C. Teel and Elizabeth Staley

Hello all. I am looking for information on the above mentioned family...

Elizabeth Staley was born May 1846 in Highland Co., Ohio. She moved with her family to Boone County, Iowa around 1855. She married John C. Teel 1 Jan 1868 in Boone Co. They moved to Missouri for a short time and settled in Elsmore, Allen County, KS around 1877. They were living there in 1880, 1885, 1900 censuses. In the 1910 census, John and Elizabeth are living in Marmaton Twp, Allen County, KS. Elizabeth is widowed in 1920 and 1930 census.

According to the censuses, they were the parents of 8 children. Through the censuses I am only getting 7 children. One must have died between the censuses.
Oliver R who married a Della (last name unknown) and later divorced.
Mary L who married Gustavus Engelhardt
George W., born 1874 in Missouri
Emily, born around 1876 in Missouri
Sarah, born around 1878 in Kansas
James L, born around 1883 in Kansas
John L., born Jan 1891 in Kansas

According to some information I found John C. Teel is buried at Bronson Cemetery. Information is Co F, 13th Iowa Infantry.

I have no information on the death dates for any of them except Gus and Mary. There are no dates on the cemetery information for John. The 1900 census says John was born in May 1840 in Iowa.

I do know that Mary and Gus lived in the area through the censuses and they are buried at Moran Cemetery in North Moran, Allen County.

ANY information on this family would be great! Thanks in advance for any help!

Juls

Larry,
Thanks for the story. I loved the story about the comb. Mother (Ruth Mayo Buchanan) told me that as a young lady, Granddaddy Teel caught her on the road walking with some girl friends. They were going "hiking" in the Thicket. She said that later he asked her to never wear pants again as that was a Man's attire and her offered her $10 to seal the deal. During the depression that was a lot of money. She took the deal and never wore pants until the last several years. She needs the warmth now as she is 99 but it was a difficult decision for her even now to wear pants.

How far back do you have genealogy info on the Teels? I have Miley Mayo Cariker's information.

Re: Death of Simeon Teel

Hi. Were you ever able to find a close ancestor? I would be interested in getting photocopies of the records in the Bible if you still have it. Simeon Teel had three daughters: Nancy Jane, Annetta Alvira and Laura Almira who married into my Doolittle ancestor family. They married William Henry, Holden Alonzo and James Hiram Doolittle, respectively and all are buried in St Joseph Co, Indiana.

All three Doolittle men were sons of Charles Doolittle and Lucinda Salisbury who are my 4th great-grandparents on my mom's side.

HENRY TEEL -LUZERNE Co., PA to SAUK Co., WI (1788-1856)

Family history found in Cal. State Library states HENRY TEEL b. 14 JAN 1788 in Luzerne Co., PA, moved to Delaware Co., OH in 1820s, then to Sauk Co., Wisconsin c1840, where he died 14 DEC 1856. Able to verify several dates from independent sources so I trust its accuracy. He is buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Sauk Co (see online transcription). Children:
1. JANE TEEL b. Luzerne Co. 23 FEB 1817 m. AHIRA B. SAMPSON
2. ELIZABETH TEEL b. Luzerne Co. 26 MCH 1819, m. Rev. JAMES G. WHITFORD.
3. GEORGE TEEL b. Luzerne 20 JUNE 1821, m. URSULA JANE CRAIG.
4. CHARLES TEEL b. Delaware Co., OH 24 MAY 1832, m. EMMA A.___.
5. History of Sauk Co., Wisc also states that he had a daughter SARAH who m1 ____SAYLES, widowed then m2 JAMES G. WHITFORD. This could be Elizabeth listed above or another daughter who subsequently died and then WHITFORD m. Eliz.
HENRY TEEL found in US Census in 1820 in Kingston, Luzerne Co., PA, 1830 Delaware Co., OH and 1840 & 1850 Wisconsin. Family totals in 1820 and 1830 indicate there were more children than listed above.
Unable to locate in any SE PA county or church records before 1820. Seek links to earlier Teel/Diehl families in PA. There is a large TEEL family in Northampton Co., PA and another unrelated large family in Warren Co., NJ (formerly lived in PA).
