Hi again Martha,

I've recently discovered http://seekingmichigan.org The site includes images of Michigan death certificates for 1897-1920. I just viewed Elizabeth VIVIAN's death certificate and it gives the parents' names as you mentioned in a previous post (Edward TIMBY and Elizabeth KEMP)

Enjoy,
Karen

Hello. I just happened to see this post while searching for information about my great-grandfather, Alfred Temby. Myrtle was my grandmother on my mother's side and to the best of my knowledge lived for a time in Great Falls, then Butte, Montana. I knew her mother, my great-grandmother, Amelia only briefly, as I was a small boy when she died. Myrtle married Maurice Cowell who's family came from Libby, Montana, but the apparently divorced when my mother was very small, in the early 30s. Myrtle died in early 1957. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.

He had two sons, Fred Jr. and Ewert, Ewert died young without any children about 1940. Fred's wife Grace was a couple years older than he was and died about 1950. He did not remarry. His son Fred died about age 72 in 1973. Both are buried in Butler New Jersey, but in different cemeteries.
I can provide more information if you are interested.
Fred Temby

Hi Martha,

Interesting that you have an interest in these names in Camborne. Are you familiar with the wonderful online site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~camborneopc that has many transcribed church records for the parish?

We must be distantly related as I have a 5greatgrandmother, Jenefer VIVIAN, who married Thomas YEATS in Camborne in 1812 as well as a 6greatgrandmother, Mary TEMBY, who married Christopher PASCO in Camborne in 1773.

Also, many of the Cornish censuses are transcribed at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kayhin/cocp.html and you'll find lots of VIVIANs and TEMBYs in the Camborne vicinity.

Good luck,
Karen in Pennsylvania

Dear Susan,

I've been looking at a microfilm of Treslothan, Cornwall church records and your Nicholas TEMBY family is found frequently.

With the very great number of descendants of Nicholas and Ann, probably one and hopefully many of them had improved fortunes over those of a Cornish miner and perhaps paid for the headstone? Have you visited the cemetery? Do you live in Cornwall?

One of my 6greatgrandmothers was Mary TEMBY who married Christopher PASCO in 1773 in Camborne. With the common first name, I'm not really sure who her father was, but perhaps a distant relative of yours also.

Best wishes,
Karen in Pennsylvania, USA

GREAT to have a response!

Stennack is so tiny that common surnames mean we must be connected.

I will follow up on the OPC site you list.

I have several documents you might be interested in:
- image of the 1841 census showing Elizabeth in the household of William (copper miner in Stennack) and Charity TEMBY, along with Grace TEMBY, age 70, probably William's mother.
- hard copies of the marriage record for Elizabeth TEMBY and Thomas EVA on 29 Jan 1844, and birth record of their daughter Jane EVA (b 4 Feb 1844 - draw your own conclusions).
- image of the 1851 census of the William TEMBY household (now farmer in Troon) that now includes his mother-in-law, Mary DENNIS
- image of 1861 census with Charity as a widow, farmer in Troon.
- image of 1861 census for Thomas (copper miner in Troon) and Elizabeth EVA and seven children, including Charity (b abt 1855), my great-grandmother, and her sister Mary who married brothers and migrated to Montana in the late 1870s.

Email me directly at genealogyjoe@gmail.com and I will send you copies of what I have.

Joe Callahan
Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness volunteer
Boulder County, Colorado
www.raogk.com

My YEATS family lived in Stennack, Camborne at one time before emigrating to Pennsylvania in the late 1860's and I believe a 6greatgrandmother of mine is a Mary TEMBY who married a Christopher PASCOE in Camborne in 1773.

There is a great online parish clerk (OPC) site for the parish maintained by Sally. It includes an index for the year you're interested in and in fact lists the marriage of Elizabeth TEMBY and Thomas EVA as taking place 28 Jan 1844 at the church in Camborne.

Sally will provide additional details by email that aren't included in the index and hopefully she will be able to tell you the name of Elizabeth's father from the marriage record.

Go to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~camborneopc

I have a microfilm of Treslothan Church records on order from the LDS library in Salt Lake City. This church opened in 1845 and apparently Stennack as you mentioned ended up in Treslothan parish. I plan to write down TEMBYs from these records and perhaps there will be a burial that might interest you. So please let me know if you find out the name of Elizabeth TEMBY's father.

I will also try to remember to look for baptisms of children of Thomas and Elizabeth EVA when I get that microfilm.

Best wishes from a maybe very distant cousin,
Karen in Pennsylvania

Seeking information on any relatives of my GGGM Elizabeth TEMBY (1826-1904), who married Thomas EVA in Q1 1844, probably in Camborne, Cornwall.

Family lore says she was born on 23 June 1826, probably in Camborne. 1841 census has a person of the right name and age living with parents William and Charity TEMBY in Stennack, Treslothan, Camborne, The fact that the Elizabeth I seek named one of her daughters Charity (my GGM), and that this daughter's birthplace is also Stennack (per copy of birth registraton from GRO), strongly suggests that this is the right Elizabeth. Later the EVA family lived in Troon and several of the children migrated to western Montana in the 1870s.

saw your post on Frederick C Temby. I have a Fred C Temby married to Grace Temby in plot 67 of the Old Butler Cemetery. The dates match for Grace, but the year of death for Frederick is listed as 1930 instead of 1960. This cemetery is in Butler, NJ - about a mile from Bloomingdale NJ (Passaic County). There are two other Temby's buried in the same plot - Richard(1866-1931) and Ewart(1909-1939).

I'm looking for some information on the ancestors of these 4 individuals as well as a link between them and the Hoskings family. I also have leads that think they may have gone to Michigan. Some of my family went to Florida too. You are right Art, the Temby family will scare Sara they are so large. I have lots of data now and they are asking for a family reunion and my goal is to get it all computerized so that it is easily read. John's line and Some of my William lines are still giving me trouble but they are comming along nicely. I have researched them in Cornwall and now hope to get back to Nevada County to dig further.
Temby Family Tree

JIM, On my chart it has Nicholas TEMBY (husband of Ann Trezona)as being the child of John Temby 1770 and Elizabeth Edwards who were married in 1793 at Camborne.John was the son of Nicholas 1740 who married Joanna Rough at Camborne 1769 and He was the son of Petter 1705-1763 who married Susanah Quentrill.Peter was listed as the son of John 1670-1727 and Bettrice. From there you would have the next generation being John who married Lowdy Rule in Camborne and ultimately to John and Mary Wennan 1630 at St. Anthony. This tree is all circumstantial and you would of course have to prove it but that is what makes genealogy so fun.
Good luck with your research.

Family Tree

Hi Jim, I agree 100% with you that you need documentation to back up all your research or it isn't worth anything. That is why I used the term circumstantial. I gave you the info. based on a tree that was sent to me several years ago from a cousin in Cornwall that I believe got it via Aus. Therefore I do not know the source and what they used to create it. However, I did check it against parish registers that I transcribed and it seems pretty good but there is no way to tell if for example John is the son of John or a cousin by the name of john born about the same time. Therefore I gave it to you as a guide for you to check and come to your own conclusions. Most of the Camborne Tembys were represented excepting my branch so there are errors or incomplete branches but it is a tool to start with. It showed that your Nicholas had a few brothers and sisters. Grace (c) 1794,Grace (1795; Nicholas 1798; John (c) 1800 married Ann Francis; Maria 1803 and Married Wm Quintrell 1830 Joanna (c) 1806 and your Nicholas 1808 married Ann Trezona and it appears had 2 sons Richard- Clunes (place spelling hard to read) and John from Long Gully. That is all the sisters and brothers I have. Let me know what you think. It is only a guide. But is probably based on baptismal, marriage and death info but you will need to verify with wills, tax info ect since there are no census.
Hope it helps. Judy

Thanks for your reply. In the picture, Mary Temby looks fairly young. I have the names of two of her children, with a possibility of three names. Additional information since I posted the message: she grew up and was possbily born in Penponds, near Camborne, in Cornwall. If you have any relatives whose names were Eliza (m. Thomas Smith(er)em, either Henry or Samuel, or Mary Ann (probably married Norris or Levi Sechler), I would appreciate it. Happy holidays.

I have a post card from about 1910 addressed to Mrs. Norris Sechler in Detroit. I believe that her birthname was Temby but do not know her first name. Message on the postcard: This is Penponds where your mother grew up and perhaps was born. Mrs. Sechler probably had a sister, Eliza Smithem, born Temby.
Penponds is a hamlet near Camborne.
If anyone has any information about this area and the connection with the Temby or Smithe(ra)m family, I would love to hear about it.
Was the cousin of Robert Riese Zeimer per his 1997 obit. He was my Mother's first cousin and I'm hoping Barbara was also a Riese cousin. Doing research on the Riese family in Ca. Would appreciate any Temby responses.
