It's a small world. My 1st DNA tests-25 marker YDNA paternal test - were suggested by Jay Norwalk, author of Dr. Jack's family history. He was looking for clues to Dr. Jack's old world ancestry (which I don't think he ever found). Unfortunately he was only interested in further research if you matched Dr. Jack on all 25 markers, even though family treedna says you're probably related with 23/25 results. I have DNA results so far for Dr. Jack, a Billy Jack Templeton & a Dennie Templeton.
A bit of triva - Dr. Jack is descended from OBEDIAH (1792-1875). Dennie who has a 23/25 match with Dr. Jack & has a paper trail back to a Robert Templeton b 1704-Scotland) by way of Pittsylvania Co, VA. Dennie's great grandfather was OBEDIAH Joseph Templeton (1858-1938) from Bedford Co, VA. I don't recall any other Obediahs outside of Dr. Jack's immediate line.
If your dad would be interested, I'd be willing to pay for a 25 marker YDNA test for him - just to get one more addirion to the Rocky Creek Templetons of Iredell Co.. DNA data base.
Another bit of trivia, our Templetons were all Methodist Episcopal as opposed to the Presbyterian Templetons in southern Iredell Co.
