John Thomas Templeton 1883?-1925? & Myrtle Josephine Hobbs 1891-1972 Texas

My dad tells the story of how his father – Marshall Floyd Templeton 1890-1966 – drove out to Quinlan, Hunt Co, Texas from Coleman Co, Texas in 1925 or 26, to stay with his brother Tom who was sick, which he did until Tom died.
I haven’t been able to find any info showing a Tom Templeton in Hunt Co, TX and have almost no info on this Great Uncle.

I have reason to believe that this Tom is actually John Thomas Templeton born about 1883, son of Levi Young Templeton & Tilitha Rowena Bills.
I have John T. & Myrtle J. Templeton in Fisher Co, TX in 1910 and then Myrtle Templeton in Travis Co, TX with four children in 1930 census. Nothing in 1900 or 1920.

I think Myrtle is Myrtle Josephine Hobbs 1891-1972, and have the following children:

I have gathered the following info on children:
1. Edith Templeton Abt. 1910 - Aft. Sep-1969 m. Robert H. McCutcheon
2. Thelma Templeton 1911 – 1927 Travis Co, TX
3. Carl Mark Templeton 1913 Lee Co, TX – 1976 Travis Co, TX, m. Willie Mae Evans
4. Thomas Marvin Templeton 1915 – 1997 Travis Co, TX
5. Harold Alfred Templeton 1918 Collin Co, TX – 1976 Travis Co, TX
6. Eugene Wayne Templeton 1921 – 1996 Travis Co, TX
7. Doris E Templeton Abt. 1924 - 2001 Temple, Bell, TX, m. John Jay McCutcheon

I would like to talk with anyone having any knowledge of this family and especially the location and circumstances of Tom Templeton’s death.
Thanks,
Tim N. Templeton

My recent trip to Scotland and Ayrshire -- and my referring to books used by three- or four shops including the tartan weaver at Edinburgh Castle -- has convinced me that, since there's no actual "clan affiliation" or registered tartan for the Templeton family, the suggestion of one researcher/author on the subject of tartans that families and others with a district interest use that district's tartan. In our case, the Ayrshire district tartan, which can be seen by scrolling down the blog entries at http://templetonfamily.tumblr.com or going to http://roger.templeton.net/heraldry.html.

Re: Andrew Templeton

Hi. My name is Jan Isaacson; I live near Boise, Idaho and you are welcome to email me directly if you wish. My email is jolene9915@msn.com.
In October, 2004 I was in Dublin, Cheshire Co., New Hampshire for a few hours. I did very fast and probably not very thorough research - I have several family members who once lived there. My Andrew Templeton married Abigail "Nabby" Muzzy; she was born in this town on 7-15-1791. There is a book 'The History of Dublin, N.H.' by Rev. Levi Leonard and Rev. Josiah Seward published in Dublin in 1920. Because of my ancestors, I xeroxed the index page with Templetons. The other Templeton names in the index are Adam, Jesse, and Matthew (plus my Andrew and Nabby). My Andrew and Nabby had children by the name of Oman, Orris Percis, Judson, and Abigail. Nabby died in Oswego Co. New
York in 1845. The only other Templeton help I have is that at the same time I made a note that I saw Templeton names in Acworth, Antrim, Chester, Peterborough, and Windham. I'm so sorry, I didn't write if these are New Hampshire towns, or counties, but that would be easy to find out.
Hope the above is some help to you. Best regards, Jan Isaacson

My Templeton line comes out of New Hampshire but I don't have and Andrew listed for the time frame you suggest. In fact, I have only one Andrew probably born about 1803 to John Templeton (1783-1860) and Jerusha Edridge (dates unknown). Do you have any other Templeton family members from New Hampshire?

Here is the tracing back I have to him starting with Mary Etta Templeton, my gg grandmother.
Mary Etta Templeton
Henry Lafayette & Ellen L. Meathers
William G.B.

You probably already got this info but Martin Burton Templeton is the grandson of John Templeton (1755- 1822) & Martha from the Rocky Creek area of northern Iredell Co. Martin B's parents were James Templeton(2/18/1787-12/6/1864) & Dicey Burton.
Martin had 3 wives, (1) Mary Diffee(1824-c1851), (2) Sarah Diffee (1825-c1861) & Jane Davis (b c1828).He had 8 kids, John Martin (b 1843), Margaret I.(b 5/23/1845), Dicey Adeline (12/15/1849), Mary C'(c1852), Sarah Jane (1860) who married James Benson), Rebecca S. (1862), & Lucy L.
They are all included in Jay Norwalk's "Genealogy of John Templeton, 1755-1822, of Iredell Co. & Related families". His book also includes info on the male children.
Jay is Administrator of one of familytreedna.com's Templeton DNA projects & has been building a YDNA data base of descendants of John. I think he would love to hear from any prospective additions to that data base.

Good luck on your further searches for your roots.

Jack

Mark,
Hope you're still out there. You are descended from John Templeton (1755-1820) & Martha from the Rockey Creek area of northern Iredell Co, NC as follows:

- Stokes (b c1918) brother of Calloway C.,Jr
- Calloway C.,Sr. (3/31/1890-9/24/1977) & Fannie Ireland
- Sidney Stokes (1/23/1857- 11/1/1929) & Mary Fletcher
- William Gilbert (1/18/1816- 1910) & Margaret "Peggy" Grant
-James T. He may still have copies of this book available.
Jay is also Administrator of one of familytreedna.com's Templeton projects. If you've ever considered getting your YDNA tested, contact Jay--if you test as a member of a the Templeton project you get a discount.
Templeton's of INDIA

Hi List

My GG Aunt FRANCES AMELIA KENT married ALLAN GREENWOOD CAMERON TEMPLETON b 1868, presumerbly in Calcutta, India as his siblings were born there. They married in 1889, Hackney, London. His father was ALLAN EDWARD DANIEL TEMPLETON b 1847, Calcutta India. I have found several of this line of Templeton's born in India going back to WILLIAM TEMPLETON b abt 1741 Belfast, Antrin, Ireland. His son Daniel going off to India and marrying ELEANOR LOWE. His brother MATTHEW STEEL TEMPLETON remaining in Ireland.

My Problem is what happened to Allan who married Frances Amelia Kent in Hackney, London ?

Allan is stated as a "Soldier" on the marriage cert to Frances living in Hackney, London. His father Allan is stated as "Pilot".

I cannot find either Allan's on any census but Frances Amelia is found on the 1891 living with her Uncle Richard Williams. She is stated as Frances Amelia Templeton, married !

However in Feb 1901 Frances Amelia marries again. Family rumour has it that Frances Amelia was the rogue of the family having an illigitimate child (poss son) but I have found no evidence of this.

Does anyone know what happened to Allan ? did he die, was he killed possibly in the Boer war or did they divorce ?
Also does anyone know of a Templeton child from this line being born between 1889-1901 in Hackney, London.

It is rather strange that there is quite alot mentioned about this Templeton line but no Allan's have been mentioned !...

Any idea's ??

Kindest regards
Kerry
I'm sure we are...back then...when there were large groups of Templeton's in any area...they were related...and I know that my Templeton's lived in White County Tennesee sometime before 1829.
I Believe my G-G-G-Grandfather moved with his brothers from White County Tennessee to Iredell North Carolina where he married...and moved from there to Shelbyville, Shelby County, Illinois.
